View Full Version : What Animals Are Left?

OK I was thinking that if the zombies in your world eat ALL flesh and not just humans, and if we eventually won and started to rebuild civilization, What farm animals would be left to breed and raise or would they all be long since dead?

The only one that I could think of that I believe would survive for sure would be chickens. They are really fast and can fly short distances and I believe they could avoid the zombies. I'm not so sure about the rest, they all seem to slow to get away. Maybe the bulls and rams would protect them.

Let me know what animals you think would survive and why?

If we've learnt anything from the original dawn script and day, its that all warm blooded animals are targetted by zombies, cold blooded animals (crocodiles, lizards etc etc) are spared.

Yes, but would any survive? Just because they are targeted, doesn't mean that the zombies would get them.

I chose goats. No reason other than the fact my mate had a pet goat called Curry.

Goats were my second choice because if they got free they would go into the mountains out of the zombies' reach.

pigs would probably make it. pigs are relatively smart and way more dangerous than most people realize (esp. when they are hungry). i think that if zombies ran across a troop of pigs, the pigs would most likely be the ones doing the eating.

chickens and ducks (hell any flying animal) would be just fine.

Well almost certainly sheep and goats would survive for so long, as they dont let people/zombies approach them.. but they cant run forever and they will get tired alot faster than a zombie will..

More docile animals like cows would be wiped out almost instantly.

Must agree that peaceful cows would be wiped out, but having to choose only one I voted for the goats. Though feral pigs and boars with their mean disposition, tusks and muscles are pretty well equipped to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Chose goats. A lot of chickens, cows, and pigs are in factory farms and would be easy pickings for zombies although I don't know what the ratio is between those that are free and the rest that are locked up for human consumption.

They would all survive, especially cattle, as there are vast expanses of open range in sparsely populated areas. If you're only talking about penned animals then they would surely perish if nothing else than lack of food and water from their human companions.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

there is one animal not on the list that would be absolutely essential in a post apoc world. the horse. granted it is not an animal used for food (at least i hope not) but for getting around at a time when roads could be blocked and gas, spare parts would get increasingly rare, the horse would be a key resource.

I believe most animals would survive. The smaller, faster animals would evade the zombies easily enough. The flying ones would... fly.

Anyway, have you ever tried to take a bite out of a cow? They may be made of meat on the inside but they're made of leather on the outside. A zombie isn't going to walk up to a cow and bite it to death.

Might tip it over though. Sorry, just channelling my inner juvenile delinquent.

Goats, because they are fastest and could knock 'em over right quick.

i'm going to say horses... man you look at one the wrong way and they kick you sideways... I should think they'd easily fend off and knock down a few zombies... come to think of it... perhaps a horse would be an advantageous means of travel for this very reason if you can ride because they could help fend off the flesh eaters... hmmm...

I'm sorry that I didn't put horses on the poll. I was trying to focus on animals raised for food. I can understand the need for horses as transportation after z-day since gas will only last so long. I can't figure out how to edit my poll so I can add horses, so I guess I will have to keep a running count of how many choose horses.

Votes for Horses: 2

That's my bad as I consider horses to be farm animals but hey they prolly could end up as food if necessary maybe they taste like chicken... but i'm just not sure in a zombie world i'd ever eat flesh again... when I think about it... if i'm trapped in a place populated by zombies will I really have the desire for flesh anymore? Or will it sicken me to see them feasting on my friends and family and strangers to the extent that I couldn't bear to eat it anymore? I'm pretty sure I wont worry about the missing protein because I doubt anyones gonna rob a GNC for protein powder in the zombie world so that's up for grabs.

Was flipping through the channels and saw a bit of Wayfarer on Russia Today. The guy was at a restaurant (didn't catch where in Russia) where they serve horse meat quite a bit on the menu. Guy orders a stew with said meat and remarked that it tasted like beef.

Anyway, I don't think the appetite for flesh would disappear, especially when ravenous hunger sets in, unless there's a big oder problem in the area with rotting flesh. I know if I got hungry enough, no matter how much gutmunching I witnessed, if I saw some chicken or SPAM around, I'd wolf it down.
