It started as a shoutbox argument but curiosity has driven me to make a poll.

Its a simple question, what browser do you use to view webpages?

Easilly 2/3's of the internet population use internet explorer, fact.

I have firefox installed but find it horrible to use, i only use it when i have created a new page and need to see that it works on firefox, the rest of the time, i use internet explorer baby.

Firefox FTW!

IE just looks nasty and crashes way too much for my liking.

IE7, never had a crash in my life, the only people who get woefull performance out of IE7 are the types of folk who generally don't take care of their machines (IMO).

Firefox is slow and ugly, tried using it several times, never lasted more than a day...and ironically, it crashed the last time I did use it.

Bill Gates FTW!!! :D

BTW, why is safari good for porn? I may have to look into this (for educational/research purposes of course). :p

AOL, its got windows for sites instead of the god aweful tabs, plus the favourites are less fiddly than IE, make a folder, click on the heart logo and and done, you can drag and drop and the right click abilities are much more fluent.
firefox, i tired once, it crashed 4 times in 20 mins, never used it since, IE ill use if i need to use rapidshare, otherwise no thanks, safari i use at school, but it seems like a stunted version of IE, though i prefer it to IE for some reason.

Safari and Camino for me.
You must live in a hole. The number of firefox users dwarf safari by far.

Safari is merely OK. Installed it for a month then went back to firefox since it can be customized specifically to my tastes.

I realize on Macs safari is faster, but according to some reports Apple's browser is faster since it uses undocumented API's to speed rendering... just like Microsoft did with IE.

Because IE is too much of a prude for your (hot-under-the-) collar-bothering antics. :p:)

Firefox is a randy bastard living it large. :D

Even more people use IE, does that mean you live in a hole?

Firefox is the slowest browser out there. And thats not counting the number of connections it drops and crashes over. Safari is a good browser for anyone using a Mac or a PC its scaled down so it isn't a big bloated piece of spyware gatherer.

I don't understand the need to choose.

I use IE and Firefox.

And I use spyware software as well as
virus protection, so that isnt even an issue.

I find IE to be a lot more compatable with
most sites, simply because if you are using
Microsoft OS then using a Microsoft Browser
made to work with that OS is just sensible.

If you are using Mac or Linux then
your choices would change accordingly.

No, but I wasn't the fellow who was incredulous that people used browsers other than safari or camino when it is clear that only a severe minority use safari. The person who brayed that smug and entirely disconnected statement was you. It is a non-sequitor to equate your statement about how "surprised" you were with my statement of simple preference.

Note that I asked you if you lived in a hole for the statement regarding your surprise, not your preference. The colloquialism of asking if one lives in a hole is used when someone says something that contradicts the obvious reality around him. It is not used because someone simply prefers one option over another.

I don't think anyone cares one way or another which browser anyone uses. It is simply a matter of taste, and definitely not a matter of objective reality. And since it is merely a matter of preference, please use the wonderful browser apple has made for you and keep your dismissive attitude regarding others choices in check.

Yes and the use of "surprise" isn't genuine, OBVIOUSLY, of course I know people still use Firefox and IE, the surprise is a literary trick to indicate that its sad that people still use such inferior internet browsing engines. But you are right I don't care really what you people use. If you want to use a browser thats prone to spyware, sluggish connections to sites, and crashes, then be my guest.

Nah, Khardis can scream all he likes about safari. It still had security flaws the very second it was released and in subsequent releases. My IT department asked that it be removed from our systems from work over it. It is all irrelevant anyway. The only reason safari isn't a major target of malware is due to the fact that so few people use it, and not to any coding superiority.

I was just giving Khardis a little warning that being dismissive of others choices in the manner in which he has demonstrated could be construed as baiting. :)

Actually Kaos is 100% right.

quote:
Symantec's Cole says it's a fallacy to claim that any Web browser is inherently safer than another.

"The reality is, Apple has lower market share" than Windows PC makers, he says. "Attackers are driven by money, so they go after the bigger market. If you have lower market share, you're not more secure—you're just less interesting [to a hacker]."

Thanks, kortick.

I am not wed to firefox. I give many browser a chance. I play around in Opera, K-Melion, and some of the more obscure ones in linux. Tried safari for windows and wasn't impressed. I like BSD based Mac OS, and I believe safari fares better on that OS.
