Not really, but a $100 opening is basically the same thing. Good for Robert Downey Jr. I always liked him, hopefully this will keep him away from his troubled past.

Holy ****!! Never did I think Iron Man would break $100 million opening weekend. Great news for the franchise, and for Robert Downy Jr!

Saw it last night, great superhero movie, lots of fun, really cool and had a great soundtrack. RDJ was also friggin' awesome.
The scene after the credits blatantly sets it up for a sequel anyway, but even without that it's the sort of film you'd expect a sequel from, so aye, I'm totally up for IM2.

aside from the mandarin and fing faang foom there arent many big screenworthy iron man bad guys i can think of, i reckon its more likely to be the avengers movie, on jonahon ross last firday rdj said he was playing iron man again and singed up for a sequel though so who knows.

Who thought there wouldn't be a sequel even BEFORE the film came out? It was obvious many moons ago that this would spawn sequels and spin offs.
My overall thoughts on Iron Man: Meh. It was entertaining in a popcorn flick kind of way, but it wasn't anything special. Downey definitely made the flick for me. Rating: 7/10. Even with its flaws, it's still better than alot of superhero flicks. I think I got more enjoyment out of The Dark Knight trailer before the film, though.:p

What a killer movie, eh? I thought it was very well done super hero fare.
A well executed sequel would be welcome.
So who stayed through the credits?

Arsenal, Dreadknight, Docter Doom, Ezekiel Stane, Grey Gargoyle, Griffin, Justin Hammer, MODOK, Ultimo, Ultron.
that's is just a list off of the top of my head of iron man villians that can appear in the sequel. I do believe that the acter who played James Rhodes expressed an interest in playing War machine in the sequel, so maybe the actual villian in the next movie will be Tony Starks Alcoholism?
Hell, or maybe they could use the story line where his armour gets sentience itself, and turns out to be the villian?
there is a s*it ton of stuff they can use for the next film. I can't wait for the Captain America movie to come out either...

I hope marvel knows what they're doing....
Iron Man made alot of money and was an okay film, but I get the feeling they might be jumping into these other comic films and Avengers spin off too quickly.

why not? theres a huge market for them, and their track record as of late has been superb.
Hell, Iron man is the highest rated super hero movie atm (a point or so ahead of spiderman 2 iirc) at 94%, according to rotten tomatoes.

Are the two Fantastic Four films included in this track record? I know Iron Man is Marvel's first self-produced film, but the two F4 films were jokes.
I'm not saying that there's no market for the films...there is. But it's easy for superhero films, sequels, and spin offs to turn bad.

oh, i know what you mean, but it's easy for most films to turn bad, not just super hero films. I'm currently, not looking foreword to the Hulk movie at all, but that's just based on the trailers, and not much else i have read about it.
I think Marvel made the right choices with the iron man movie, and if they continue to do what they are doing, it could easily be one of the most succesful film franchises in history.
and I said as of late :P, everyoen knows that the fantastic four films are junk.

I enjoyed FF1 but it was pretty much "meh" generally, FF2 was gash.
Iron Man, while it had some flaws (sometimes it dragged or went on a bit when it could have been tighter), but generally it was a kick ass action super hero flick with an excellent turn from RDJ. It did focus very heavily on the creation of Iron Man mind you, which might have added to the slightly flabby around the edges feel to it, but heck, I'd rather there be a bit of love handling instead of collar bone pokeroo.

Sooooo quoted for truth, that it's not even funny. Anyone remember the 1st Captain America movie? The first Punisher movie? The made for tv Nick Fury (David Hasselhof) movie?
I know Marvel has finally managed to crawl out from under the shadow of DC's first Batman franchise and produce some well done and decent movies, but I'm even more worried that there is such an open-minded market for super hero movies now, as that sort of thing can easily lead to the backsliding of quality in super hero films, like we saw in the first FF movie (have yet to see the 2nd one).

the first FF movie (have yet to see the 2nd one).
Don't bother, man. Don't bother. I saw it last night for free on HBO and still wish that I hadn't. It's even worse than the first.
I suppose kids would like it and it does feel like it's more directed towards them....so if you prefer comic flicks that are serious in tone, avoid this one at all costs.
As for Iron Man - Anyone else feel that the ending after the credits was a bit cheesy and out of place?

My answer has a spoiler in it for those who have not seen the extra scene at the end of the credits so roll over and read it.
I kind of liked it, when the agent said the name of S.H.I.E.L.D. at Tony's first press conference I was like "Where the hell is Nick Fury, why is this guy doing Nick Fury's job?" so seeing Samuel L. Jackson as Fury got me excited.
Anyway, what gets me really excited is the other 5 movies Marvel is making, Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, The Avengers, and Ant Man. Those are all characters I really enjoy and if done right the movies could be great. Marvel made Iron Man, they didn't hire another studio to make it like they did with their previous super hero movies and I think that's why Iron Man was done right. Hopefully the others I mentioned are as good if not better.
Now if they would just make a movie based off of Kick Ass. If you haven't read Kick Ass, start reading, it is only a couple issues in and it already lives up to its name.

Last year when Downey was announced to play Tony Stark, wasn't it also confirmed that he had signed a contract for three films and possible spin offs? I thought that was confirmed long ago.
I can see the Iron Man franchise holding steady, but I've got a feeling these spin offs are going to go down like the O'Doyle's....

Just got back from seeing it... Pretty good. A little Hollywood towards the end, but I'm up for a sequel! 7/10...

Personally, I loved it. Granted, the last scene after the credits was a little cheesy, but it still made my inner fanboy cream his pants.
I would love an Avenger's movie, but I can't see a solo movie on Ant Man or Wasp, or even Thor. But stranger things have happened.
