Let's be frank here, people like this are never going to contribute to society - They're too far gone, or it could be considered they have out-stayed any welcome normal society should give them...
It's times like this you just want an island you can dump these people on and just forget about them... After their life sentence of 15yrs, no doubt out in 8, they'll only be even more of a drain on society...

To actually have the mentality to be able to laugh when someone has been be attacked by a group and stabbed (in the heart)...

if this had happened in the US the words "tried as adults" come immediately to mind - esp. in the cases of the 17 year olds and in some states, the 15 year old as well. in that case they'd be spending a long, long time in the clink, hopefully occupying the same cell as the tossed salad man.
i take it that the UK has no provisions for treating minors as adults when they commit particularly nasty crimes of violence?

It's things like this that makes me wonder how on earth there aren't new prisons, but there are over 3000 new criminal offenses in the last decade.
Prisoners should be made to work for something that can benefit society, what that might be who knows - license plates, recycling, chain gangs clearing up roadsides and such - they should be getting worked.
Proper sentences for criminals too, and I totally agree, even if you're 15 - you should know damn well that murder is abhorrent and completely wrong. There should be a special provision for over 13's.
