It looks like Nintendo wants people to start seeing the Revolution in a different light by giving it a brand-new name a week before E3. The Revolution's new name: Wii.

I can see a parent going into a store then asking: "I'd like a Wii please." That just sounds a tad wrong.

Mild update, it's been reported Nintendo have not trademarked the name Wii and out of sheer common sense it's highly unlikely they would call it that in english speaking countries - look forward to the more adult Nintendo urine instead.

sorry folks, but it's true. :dead:

IGN Wii: We're now called IGN Wii. How could you do this to us?

Perrin Kaplan(noa rep): Say that again.

IGN Wii: It is pronounced like "we," right?

Perrin Kaplan: Yes, as in inclusive, you and me. So how could I do it to you?

IGN Wii: Yes. Don't you guys think about us when you do these things?

Perrin Kaplan: I think about you pretty much 24/7.

IGN: Well, of course you do.

And here's another article on it. :)

Revolution renamed Wii (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6148462.html)

And if you search Google News with the search topic Wii, you shall get a bevy of news articles on the subject. :)

Maybe they think their console sucks, so they're giving it a name which sounds like urine, lol. Revolution was a much better name ... these console guys are complete weirdos.

Everytime Miyamoto's been asked what game he is playing and he'll comment on how good one looked. Guess he has other hobbies.

I've only just heard about this... Of all the stupid, pathetic, s***brained, f***ing names to call it, they choose Wii.

Nintendo, take this advice... do what sega did and STOP!!! You make great games, but when it comes to names for hardware, you suck like a porn star...

Danny

they should just fuse sega and nintendo with microsoft and make the ultimate console like the "dreamcube-x" or something, then put that ugly ass ps3 outta 'bidness'.

If anyone out there has the money to buy both Sega and Nintendo it would be the House of Gates. :)

Nintendo as a 3rd party WOULD be a good thing :)

Why should Nintendo stop? Firstly Gamecube made a good companion console due to the exclusives, Revolution will do the same and the idea next time is to inspire third party developers to make different games rather then dredge up the same franchises, seems to be working to as many have expressed their interest in the controller and there's many behind door projects going on.
Secondly the only company that actually makes a profit from hardware and software is Nintendo.
Thirdly, if this Nintendo hate is for them making games for kids then get over it, they have been aiming to entertain kids since before they started making video games, it's their thing. And at least they make decent games instead of Teenage Mutant Ninja no gameplay or Spongbob and oh god is this game pants.
Finally Iv'e had no problems with any of their consoles, no disc errors, no freezing, no overheating, nothing. I have no doubt a certain rival console will though, if only to make the sales look good to play on the general stupidity of consumers mesmerised by big numbers thrown in front of them.

**** they can call it, "i give sassy handjobs for two bits" and i'd still buy the damn thing.

also, expect an announcement at e3 that the Wii will support sega Dreamcast games.

You mean to tell me that you would stop stroking your gun long enough to play a video game? I'm shocked!

if you want to **** and moan, keep it in the inital thread. don't spil over here and continue it.

Also for everyone else.

i was over at the Arundel Mills Mall near B-more this weekend. in addition to all the usual ricka-racketa they have on the concourse their they had this motion detection based game.

the game was being initiated by and overhead projector pointed to the floor. the projector was nothing fancy it's probably available at Best Buy right now. what it was though, the game screen was projected onto the floor, nd were completely interactive through a combo of what i'm guess was an IR grid overlayed on the "game screen", and some sort of motion recognition software.

it's difficult to describe, but the short version is you could manipulate the projected screen, by placing your hand, foot, or body on top of an object. this would link the obejct to you, and allow you to then move it about on the floor/screen.

it's alot like Sony's Eyetoy for PS2, just signifigantly better, and more precise.

Since the Wii's controler will be based on a similar principle, i can see why Nintendo went with this format. within 30 seconds of trying it out, myself, my finace, and the group we were with were flailing about like morons, trying to chase ducks around an imaginary pool.

Dude, you ripped the words off of my fingers! Just like you said, I have not had any problems at all with any of my Nintendo systems except for the NES, and that is a minor problem as 20 years later it still works excellent!

Anyway, I don't care what they call it. I do think that Wii is a horrible name, but that aside, I will still buy it launch day and will most likely get it at midnight since I work at a Game Rush store :shifty: As for the PS3 or Xbox 360, they can wait. I am in no rush to buy those systems, they are overpriced and so far the 360 doesn't have many games that intrest me that are not available on other systems. I think the theme song should be:

Wii will Wii will rock you...

agreed. i'm still waiting for there to be enough games out for 360(that i'll play) to even think about getting one. unless halo3 comes out this year (PFFFFFFT) i'll wait untill next year to get a 360.

Sony had the audacity to cite Nintendo's controller as a gimmick, and what do they have? PS3 controller is a dual shock with tilt sensor.
