Had some nice ideas, but oh dear, the script... Neil Marshall needed some help on this film because it all got a bit cheap'n'cheerful lazy Hollywood :|
Not very impressed really...
Not sure what the budget was, but the effects were pretty impressive at times!
ps: I watched the unrated version...

It was a really bad movie.
I enjoyed some elements of it, but the script was rather weak in places, and some big names (actors) were rather wasted at times...

I loved it.
It's essentially a fan movie, made by a fan, for the fans. Kinda like "what if John Carpenter was still in the 1980s".
It wasn't perfect, but it was a blast, loads of fun. Definitely not the sort of movie where you think too often, just enjoy the thrill ride of it.
Did you get the DVD, or did you *ahem* acquire it. :D
I'm waiting to see if the Region 2 DVD will be better than the Region 1 or not, before I go buying it on doovde, which I'll definitely do. :)

Must admit i didn't enjoy it neither. It seemed like an incoherent mess to me fan movie or not. I DID like some of the gore effects though which isn't really an attraction to a movie for me.

I agree completely with Minion. It was a good watch. The only problem I had with the movie was the lack of a driving purpose/script. They just sort of ended it pretty fast.

"what if John Carpenter was still in the 1980s" ..and had lost a good deal of his brain cells?
Yes, I enjoyed it, but got frustrated that with such a good premis and good actors it copped out and sank into cheap 'thrills' and daft writing too often...
*spoilers*
So a 12 tonne military vehicle, with twin V8 engines, and 2 inch armour... Brought to a halt by man and half a brick... Oh for goodness sake!
Again, I happily watched it, but groaned out loud a number of times, and wouldn't consider watching it again, well unless it was the bit with the girl taking a bath :)
IMHO, could have been so much more solid, for just a bit more scriptage...

You're nothing but contradictions, you are. :p
Moaning about Angelina Jolie in Wanted, but then you're all hot-kneed over the girl in the bath in Doomsday (I don't recall the scene right now, but the lead baddie woman had FIT TITS alright :D).
Also, you "happily watched" it, but you'd never watch it again ... eh?
You're a strange one, Neil. I have to say.
You'd better not come back and say "WALL.E ... oh dear", or I'll punch ya face. :p

You don't recall the scene? Dear God man, you gay? :)
How could a red blooded man not recall, woman, bath, mounds, shot gun! :D
Also, you "happily watched" it, but you'd never watch it again ... eh? :confused:What's wrong with that... I've been there and done it... Having now been through the whole film, I know it's not of enough interest to entice me again...
Sheesh, if I'd turned off half way thru, you'd be on my back about not giving it a fair chance!
You're nothing but contradictions, you are :)

And I freely admit that in real life, it's my character ... but not really contradictions in opinion, but more in life. Such as, I can't be doing living in the city, but I'm not that suited to the countryside either ... and other stuff ... but that's way off topic.
I just found it odd that you can "happily watch" a movie, but give it absolutely no chance of watching it again.
Have you ever watched properly gash movies more than once? Just curious. :p
Nope, still not ringing any bells ... woman, bath, boobs, shot gun ... nope ... I canny remember it cappin!:shifty::eek:
...
And I'm all about boobs!
Find me a YouTube clip or image of the scene and I'll no doubt remember it, or at least give me more of a description of it - who, when, etc. I guess I was too fixated on the rockin' cleavage of that tribal woman...goodness me!

*sopiler*
It was about 5 mins into the film when they raided the slave traders ship... Lady in the bath, naked, tassive mounds, and then she reached over, grabbed a shotgun and let rip...
It was only about a 4-5 second scene so chances are you just missed it...
If you really are quizzical/confused I'll capture it and show you...

:| see, if it was a good movie it could stand alone on its rights as a piece of cinema, if you concede facts and call it a fan movie thats a bit too lenient on it isn't it?
thats like saying reign of fire was a fan movie for the fans, theoretically sure it could be, doesnt stop it being mediocre.

it wasn't bad in theory, but it didn't know how to end it in one area, so rather than having an ending montage of the people of the world being inspired and launching a crusade against the dragons (i watched this the other day so this is fresh in my head) instead they cop out for the all time ****iest sci-fi cop out "well theres one special one and if we kill that they all die", look at mimic, same thing. rather than have a real ending to a narrative they use a cliche cut and paste cop-out.
