I have a soft spot for Cannibal Apocalypse myself...

...but out of the two I guess it has to be Holocaust.

I've never seen either of these films, though I've heard of 'em here.

Are they any good for the average fan of zombie, or zombiesque films? Are they exploitative, torture-porn type horror or do they have decent stories to them?

Well generally, cannibal films have very little to do with the zombies other than flesheating. It's the 'native capturing explorer in a net and cooking them in a pot' type thing with Holocaust and Ferox.

Cannibal Apocalypse is an exception however because it's a virus that's acquired from a bite and sends the victim into a bloodlust. It's pure disco in the streets with ravenous rebels on the run from the police in the city. John Saxon is in it too, which is a bonus.

Despite how much I disagree with them actually killings animals in the film, my vote goes to Cannibal Holocaust because of the special effects.

I'm sure you all know this, but the creators of Cannibal Holocaust were summoned to court because people were claiming a girl was actually murdered in the film. Even when the actress herself showed up to the court room they still had trouble believing it, because the FX were so convincing.

Holocaust easily. Although, in my old age i cant sit through the animal killings. Holocaust was filmed in the Amazon using real tribespeople and therefore looks more authentic whereas Ferox was shot in Italy with many of the cannibals being locals in 'blackface'. Oh Lenzi, you mad old fool.

they are both dreadful in my book. i found holocaust at half price books for a dollar. since i'd heard so much about it and it was only a dollar, i bought it. that was the worst dollar i've ever spent. the movie is degrading to everyone involved and everyone who watches it as far as i am concerned. it is one of the few movies i've ever felt like i needed a shower after watching.

i ended up mailing the thing to phillyswat. i wonder if he still has it?
