The first hour was fantastic, but the second hour turned to crap. Here is a movie about a group of MIT students who developed a system for counting cards in order to beat black jack. Mentored by their Math professor, played by Kevin Spacey, these kids embark on a ride where they clean out the casinos in order to live a high flying life style or in one guys case, pay for medical school.

The cast is mostly young and naive. Kate Bosworth plays the lead characters love interest and she looked good. She has a nice bod and a rack that will keep you fixated on her through out the film. Thank the lord for her semi-nude scene because the helped the last 60 minutes of the film immensely.

The most annoying character had to be the clepto asian kid who stole everything he could get from the hotel rooms, which makes no sense as he is making a ton of money with this gambling thing they got going.

Well like I said the first hour is interesting, but this film seriously falters on every level after the first hour. The kids develop code words and hand signals in order to tell each other where the hottest tables are, how to know if it is cold, how to know if you have been caught by security.. etc.

Now not for nothing, when developing hand signals try to find something not so obvious. Every hand signal was so in your face and the characters reactions to those signals couldn't have been more obvious. It really makes you wanna jump through the screen and choke the living **** out of them and say... WHAT ARE YOU F U C K I N G STUPID?

Anyway, for the first hour it is worth a watch, but after that you watch at your own risk. However, if you have half a brain you can figure the movie out in the first 15 minutes.

Rating... 2.5 stars out of 5 stars

My thoughts on the movie were:

http://deadshed.blogspot.com/2008/06/21-yeah-movie-about-pontoon.html

...

I thought the entire movie was a pile of sh*t, it's just that the first hour is slightly less sh*t than the second, but it's still awful - and yeah, the hand signal thing was laughably obvious.

And Kate Bosworth - I've no idea why people like her in movies, I think she's f*cking useless. She's not special or interesting, she can't act any better than some average chump jobbing in Hollywood, she was rubbish as Lois Lane, and she ain't fit either. She's a bloody twig and her character in 21 was rubbish, just like all the other characters.

And the plot is so cookie cutter, you'll have seen various parts of it in a MULTITUDE of other movies beforehand (all of which are FAR SUPERIOR to this bag of moist turds).

Ugh, I absolutely despised it, 2.5 outta 5 is waaaaay to generous in my view. Half a star I'd say, and only because it eventually ENDS and you can enjoy life again.

She was alright in Wonderland. Basically all she did was tag along with Val Kilmer, but she was still okay.

I really like that movie. Time to dig it out for a viewing...

A) If you're going to use hand signals, why not change them from time to time.
B) Why do they keep going back to the same casino? I guess that was the only one that had blackjack.
C) If you go to MIT, isn't there a place a little closer called Atlantic City which also has casinos?

:annoyed:

I only disgree with C. Although Atlantic City has Casino's the money to be made isn't nearly enough.
