Never played the games, but from what I understand, & from the Wikkipedia listing, it's pretty much a straight forward action/adventure/crime noir tale.

Now, I'm seeing the commercials for the movie, w/ quotes like "The Devil is building an army. Max Payne is looking for something that God wants hidden, & that makes him dangerous." Plus all the images of (demons? angels?) flying around, pulling a guy out a window, etc.

Am I missing something here...

There's been a LOT of talk about all that, but the general guess is that's all to do with the affects of the in-game drug "Valkyr", which you suffer the affects of twice (if I remember correctly) during the first game (the whole baby blood trail maze tight-rope level was a right pain in the arse, lol).

So yeah - presumably it's all to do with visions and affects of Valkyr, rather than actual real-world goings on.

"The Devil is building an army" most likely refers to "Ms Valkyr" who basically produced the drug, and there's a whole element of military involvement at one point in the game, she was the final 'boss' if you will, in the game too, and the army being the increasing number of Valkyr users, who are turning rough areas into V-dens and lashing further out into the community - which is how Max's family get snuffed at the beginning of the game.

At one point it shows a guy being shot out a window, then the camera pans past the wall and it shows a giant dark angel, which was not there on the other side of the wall, pulling him out the window. I think like Nick said they'll use stuff like this as an effect of the drug, but this shot in particular seems to me to be more of a metaphorical thing. Get what I'm sayin?

The thing I'm most "ugh'd" about is that it's gonna be PG-13, and then reading interviews with those involved in the movie trotting out the same old "oh you don't need to swear, it's silly" or what have you (all of whom swear in real life, or have starred in movies where their mouths have been bluer than the sky on a clear day).

PG-13 cos you drag in more of an audience - that's simply it, own up will ya?!

I think it's daft as well, you have all these people shooting each other - death all over the place - but nobody can say anything worse than "bastard" or the odd "sh*t"? Pfft...hopefully they'll actually have an unrated version, which is a quality unrated version too.

Also - hopefully it's actually good! At least if it was like the Silent Hill movie (which I reckon is the best videogame-to-movie adap there is thus far, despite some flaws) then that'd be decent.

Still ... PG-effing-13?

Grow a set of BOLLOCKS already. :D

Have never played MP on console, only on PC, so erm ... well, the controls were fine for me. In fact I found the bullet time stuff to be better handled (as there's essentially two varities, or implementations of it in the MP universe).

Swearing? Yeah, plenty as I remember...and elements of porn/sleazy goings on.

Max Payne is still a classic game, despite looking dated, a truly great game will always be as such.

You should check out Max Payne 2, it's rather spiffing too, I've enjoyed that one many-a-time.

Thought they upp'ed the rating to R now?

Thanks for the replies. I kinda wondered if it was something like that. To me, that doesn't bode well that they're cutting to promos that way...kinda seems like they're intentionally mis-representing it as something it isn't?

From Wiki:

Though filmed with the intention of receiving a PG-13 rating, Max Payne received an unofficial rating of R by the MPAA on September 5th 2008, which has resulted in a backlash from Moore.[7]. As of September 22, 2008, a recent trailer has confirmed a PG-13 rating, for the following: "intense sequences of violent action, some language and brief drug content.

So ... they aimed for a PG-13, then got an R, and then chopped to get the PG-13 after all?!

F*CK OFF!

...

I wonder if the focus on the Valkyries flapping about is their way of dealing with showing the drug "V" on screen, no doubt you can't have a bunch of dead junkies lying around an abandoned building with their arms tied up and gooey needles sticking out of their arms.

Also - Jim Bravura - in the game, crusty old white guy ... in the movie ... ... Ludacris.:bored::eek::dead:
