she won the race even when they gave a group of people a TWENTY minute head start
but their reason for not saying she was the winner was "she ran a separate race"

Wow, that's weak. She won. Maybe she will get an endourcement deal out of it. Anyone, but Nike.

The fastest time was actually put in by a man (he beat this woman by 15 minutes) but since it was the "Nike Women's Marathon" he obviously couldn't be the overall winner.
It definitely seems unfair that she wasn't declared the winner, but it looks like she had previously put in marathon times fast enough to have won second place in the "elite" group, so she probably should have put herself in that group. It's not like she had no reason to expect she would do well.

Why the hell does the elite get a head start anyway? headstarts are not for the elite its for the handicapped.

The person who actually "won" should be embarrassed. I know it's not something I would brag about.
