Gotta say I was pleasantly suprised with this. Some very tense moments and the gore. My god. When that zombie got it's head caved in with the fire extinguisher. Davina was excellent as well.

If it doesn't get a US release, you will be able to pick it up on R2 from most good online retailers at the end of the week.
For example: http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/6059447/Dead-Set/Product.html

Sorry dude, it was late over here when I posted that. I'm sure it will become available online in some capacity, legally or illegally. I'm not sure if Channel 4 has their site restricted to UK viewers only but if you can get 4 On Demand here - http://www.channel4.com/4od/index.html then you will be able to watch it.
The reason I linked the website in my last post is because I remember how long it took Spaced to hit US shores, but thanks to the wonder of high speed broadband you probably wont have to wait long.

Although I don't agree with you about Land, Sir Tricky, I do agree that Dead Set was wicked-cool.
Now, I don't dig this whole 'fast zombie' thing, it can work - as in Deadlands - and it does work here in Dead Set.
Although it's painfully obvious there's a HUGE amount of debt being paid to 28 Days Later, even though that film only had infected living, anyway...
Zombie Davina - bloody great, her death scene against that bloody wall was great, she did a spiffing job of dying on screen, especially when she slid down - her body was all splayed out in a very un-natural manner and her death-slide was very convincing ... plus it was just funny as fook to see a zombie Davina. :D
Yes - the gore - excellent stuff, and I too was quite amazed they got away with so much (ahem, fire extinguisher) on TV - I mean yes this is the UK, and we get away with far more on our TV than you chaps in America do, but still ... damn!
At times the crazy-tastic-camera shaking all over during zombie attacks did get a bit much, as did the relentlessly dark and dull visuals, and constantly shifting focus ... but only from time to time. I did feel the dark comedy of it all was a bit lost from time to time too, but all those quibbles are just that, mere quibbles.
I would prefer shamblers though, but the runners do work in Dead Set ... although I really wish somebody other than Romero would concentrate on shamblers, because it's really only the indie scene - and Shaun of the Dead - keeping that alive...or undead, rather.
All-in-all, top stuff. :)

Had to remove the torrent name chaps, I'm sure if you're that way inclined you'll be able to find it yourselves.
We can't have any info that either provides direct links or help in acquiring copyrighted material online to download (e.g. Torrents), because it is against vBulletin rules. If we allow such information to stay, we could lose the license and therefore the forum - and you chaps don't want that.
...
As for the show - clanglee - it's showing on E4, which can either be viewed on Sky (which is a monthly subscription satelite TV service that millions of people across the UK have), or via FreeView (which again, millions of people have access to) - FreeView is a one-time-payment little box (or nowadays it comes included within some televisions), and you get a series of channels for free, including E4.
So it's not a terrestrial channel (that anyone with a TV can get), but it's close and can potentially be viewed by millions of people. It's certainly a popular and successful channel, and is an extension of the Channel 4 brand (which is terrestrial). No doubt Dead Set will soon be shown on Channel 4 terrestrial for those who don't have Sky or VirginMedia or FreeView to watch.
...
But yeah, we show a lot more on our TV here in the UK than you American chaps do - be it on Sky or terrestrial. Heck, on Channel 4 recently there was "The Sex Education Programme" which had frequent 'cock & fanny' shots, as well as boobs - before the 9pm watershed ... some people had a whinge, but the majority didn't give a stuff and just watched it - very informative programme it was too.

My favourite character so far has to be the poducer guy that gets trapped in a room with pippa, hilarious stuff.
Also, davina's death in part one, fooking fantastic.. preobally best bit of acting she has ever done in her life, when she falls to the floor, if any of you have sky+'d it like me, check out the angle her right leg is at... that HAD to have hurt to do.

Certainly a better episodes than last night. Far more tension and action with some great set pieces I loved it when the dinner lady started feeding on the copper and when the van backed into the other guy. With only an hour left it will be interesting where they now take this. The producer and the woman have to make a move some time. Odds on who ends up surviving?

So there is an hour on the Friday? Excellent.
I have a sneaky suspicion the only ones that are going to live are the PA and the guy with hurt his arm (I'm awful with names)
Although considering the subject I wouldn't be surprised if the producer lives and makes another TV exploiting the victims and the BB couple living to tell the tale and selling their story to the tabloids
Just checked the TV Guide and it's only on for 30 minutes on Friday - so an hour left. :(
MinionZombie
30-Oct-2008, 11:48 AM
Well, an hour with credits, so in reality it's anywhere between 40 and 50 minutes. :p
As for the show, yep, ep3 was better than ep2 - simply because more stuff happened, and I'm glad that gun-toting woman has stopped being really angry and annoying towards that somewhat-annoying bloke who got his van jacked.
Grayson was simply annoying - but then again I find all drama queen men on Big Brother beyond annoying - and yep, I flat-out knew he was gonna get chomped because he's too much of a pussy to stick to the rules of surviving a zombie plague. :p
Don't un-tie the dying bite victim, you ninny! Once they're dead, stab 'em in the head, you ninny!
Indeed, it'll be interesting to see where they take it now, considering time is running out ... and I'm still impressed by Davina's death scene, just letting your body totally relax and flop in an un-natural way is the key to a great death scene.
GingeUK
30-Oct-2008, 03:16 PM
What would have made that death scene perfect was if a bubble from the water cooler had gone off when she hit it. :D
It must be a bit soul destroying when after all your hard work in TV throughout the years, most people think your best work was dying on screen :P

Good ending to the show.
The producers death was pretty awesome - we had to have one big death scene at least. My only complaint would be with the shaky cam. Used far too much and far too shaky
Craig
01-Nov-2008, 12:31 PM
I'd been enjoying the series all week but that last episode really solidified it as something great, for me. My favourite character had to be the producer, Patrick... OK he was a massive A-hole but he wasn't stupid, nor was he afraid to muck in and get things done things done. His determination to survive with or without the others really struck me.
I thought the last quarter of of the last episode was a superb homage to Day, I recognised the similarities almost immediately when Joplin (Miguel from Day) opened the gates. Then when Patrick (Rhodes) went down, I was half-expecting him to scream 'CHOKE ON 'EM!'.
I have to admit that when I compare Patrick's death to Rhodes' - Patrick's unnerved me more, I felt there was something frighteningly more real about his performance that made me the slighest bit queasy, which hasn't happened in a long time.

HOLY EFFING NUMBER TWO!!! :eek::eek::eek:
That finale had me literally slack-jawed, and on the edge of my seat all tensed up. For me too, that finale set this series in stone as something bloody awesome.
It did remind me a lot of Day of the Dead as well, and the BIG death scene during those final minutes immediately took me to Rhodes, but then chucked in TWO more deaths from Day, the eye gouge and the decapitation ... and was it me, or was that sh*t spewing from his intestines at one point? Or maybe it was blood, it was so quick - and a bit shaky - that I wasn't entirely sure, but even if it was 'just blood', it was an astonishing death scene.
It was Rhodes' end, doubled or even trippled in intensity - shame about the incessantly shaky camera, which was taken a smidge too far at times, same goes for the relentlessly dark image - although considering the shutters had been put down, and that death was somewhere in the camera run it makes sense.
But f*ck me running this finale had me open-mouthed.
When the zeds bust into the camera run and are slamming their hands against the two-way-mirror (or is it one-way? I forget what it's called) and they're trapped waiting for the diary room door to open, I was 100% gripped. Then they smash through and swarm the lot of them - oh my god that was good - then the PA woman (my favourite character :)) is in the Diary Room talking to that guy - "this makes you the winner of this year's Big Brother", and the poor bugger is equally trapped and also bitten ... ... and then she asks to be let out of the diary room to take her chances fighting through the crowd, and that split-second of screaming as the door opens before cutting to black, bloody hell - awesome pacing and editing going on.
Then the big final sequence with everybody either scattered across the floor in bits, or zombified and chewing on gloriously gory chunks of meat, before that beautifully paced, edited and scored bit where the PA - now zombified - looks up at that remote control camera, then we pull back in the gallery to see a whole raft of monitors displaying her zombified face, then to a shopping mall TV store with the same images and a zombie outside the shop window gawping at it, then the zombies shambling about being watched overhead by cameras - goodness me, bloody amazing!
I'll definitely pick up the DVD sometime, absolutely superb - even with the running zombies, occasionally-too-shaky-shaky-cam, and relentlessly dark image.
It even had me wide-eyed at some of the gorier moments of the final episode, and this is on TV for crying out loud ... bloody nora, not in a million years would you find this on American TV that's for sure.
lol, Patrick was a complete twat wasn't he? But in a funny kind of way, except in the final episode where you just feel abject horror at his actions ... although him acquiring some 'chum' for his zombie distraction plan was gleefully gross and funny.
The ending will stick with me for a good while, a sure-fire sign of a quality product, it's definitely going to haunt me for days.

I Cant really add anything that hasnt already been added but i just wanna say i was absolutly blown away with the last part, really was.
i actually wasn't expecting them all to get killed, i was expecting it to be one of those gay "they make it to the van and drive off into the sunset" endings, but i thought the actual ending was fantastic, i was gripped all the way through it.

Funnily enough, i thought the shaky cam was well used in this for a change. The grey pallete they used for the urban feel was pretty good as well though I'll never get used to seeing blood as black on screen.
Boy was this one for the gorehounds. and a very poignant ending to boot.

Dead Set is released on Monday 3rd November! :)
I actually do watch Big Brother (but it's basically the only reality TV I do actually watch, and more from a perspective of viewing human behaviour ... and part guilty pleasure).
Anyway, the characters were quite well done, as in the stereotype sideshow freaks they have in the house, so you've got the token Scot, the token middle-aged bloke (who's often a bit odd, pervy or threatening or all of the above), the token cheeky chappy Northerner (played in this by the dude who played a rapist student in Hollyoaks ... just thought I'd mention that as I've not seen him in anything else as far as I'm aware, he got a gory end on Hollyoaks come to think of it) ... erm, oh yeah, the drama queen gay man who's beyond annoying, and the 'Lahndahnah' slapper with chavvy ear-rings, awful lip liner and a tan (as well as no brains). :D
I too was wondering "is this going to be a happy/moderately happy ending?" ... but at a certain point, when sh*t started hitting the fan left, right and centre, I knew they were going for the traditionally British full-on bleak-as-f*ck ending ... which packs a bloody hefty punch.
Sometimes a happy ending, or moderately happy ending is totally suitable, but other times a really punch-your-face, strongly downer ending works a treat - and especially here where they left it very poignant, as kidgloves pointed out.
BTW - It's 2 hours and 18 minutes in total.
So literally one minute shy of the Cannes Cut of Dawn. :)

Hmmm, duno about that. They might just leave it as a one-off, or at most, do one sequel of sorts ... but it'd be kinda pointless as we've seen as much as we really need to.
What I'd be interested to know is - will it have any impact on the actual Big Brother? Like a task related to it or something, or inspired by it? That'd be rocking.

I hope they don't do a sequel, even if it is worthy most of the time sequels still manage to water down the effect of the original, in my opinion.
Some things are just better as a one-off.

Just got finished watching the first two episodes and I really like the show. There are a number of really annoying folks on that show though. I suppose that adds to the "realism" since it is based on Big Brother. :)

This show is awesome....I was so totally taken aback by it, it really made me feel unnerved in the last episode - a mad climax but I also thought a bit of a cop out, I dunno...having said that I enjoyed this show more than anything I've seen on telly in the last ten years....totally blown away even if it did follow a very rigid formula - and there were blatant nods to Romero throughout not excluding "they're coming to get you barbara" and references to zombies having remembered and loved big brother in their past lives, and the obvious "what if we're the only ones left" line from Day....was such a great show though, so hats off to E4 for this amazing piece of TV!

I loved all the GAR nods, shows that Brooker has good taste. :)
The comedy aspect did take a back seat fairly frequently, and would instead be jet black humour most of the time, and indeed in the final episode there was basically no humour at all - but in it's place - traditionally jet black dark abject British horror.:elol:

my favourite line from the series:
"look it's either this, or we take turns ****ting in a bin until we starve to death!!"

My favourite line without doubt is when Gollum is speculating Day of the Dead style that God is punishing us for our sins and one of the housemates goes
"yeah, but why does he have to be such a c*nt about it"
Brilliant.

lulz, aye that was a classic bit of blunt-as-a-brick observation wrapped up in a ball of comic timing. :D

You know what you guys should do?
Buy the R2 DVD and get a region free dvd player, kinda like all us Brits have to do anytime we want a DVD not available in the UK, or a DVD that rocks in America but sucks the fat one in the UK cos we got shafted yet again. :sneaky:

Thing is, with all the pure crap that is being released stateside nowdays (who needs another High School Musical, for chrissakes!) and all the geniunely decent films that are released in the UK and Europe, it is us in America who are left in the cold. The only way therefore that most of us can participate in the coolness that is Dead Set is to get it through "alternative" means, or invest in a region free dvd player (much like you all have had to do for so many years)
Luckily, I have learned-courtesy of a very kind hearted and like minded member - that Dead Set can be had via subterranian venues, so if you are in the states and have the will to search this out you will be able to enjoy this right away.
Seek deep ;) and ye shall find.

oooorrrrrr. . . .we could do the other thing. Which I did.
It was pretty awesome. I have to admit, I enjoyed it a LOT!! I might actually get the DVD sometime soon. I need a new upconverting DVD player anyways, sooo. . I might as well get a region free one.

Lets turn this topic away from less legal methods of viewing deadset and back to the storyline before we have to close it eh?
I bought the DVD today, anyone else got it? some excellent deleted scenes on it, the 8 out of 10 cats one and pippa's death are my favourites.. :D

I finally got a chance to see this, and it was great fun, even with the running, contact wearing zombies. Shaun of the Dead, 28 days /weeks later, and now Dead Set-- The UK is kicking USA ass in the living dead movie realm.

Even though 28 Days/Weeks Later is not a zombie flick ... it's a plague movie with living people infected with a rabies-like rage virus ... anyway, yes ... yes we are. :D
I think us Brits can throw in a different take on the zombie genre, because we haven't done it so much, and it's from a country that isn't America. We inject a different vibe of humour into things, and we can also get quite bleak (when we want to), so in that respect we sometimes go far further than what you American chaps can get away with in your zed flicks ... I mean, Dead Set got really bleak at the end, but it was awesome ... despite the *sigh* runners. :D
This just reminds me of course, that I STILL haven't gotten around to starting my zombie epic script ... gah! The pre-writing malaise! It's swarming me like a horde of the undead!

BLOCKED for anyone outside the UK
Can someone get me the link so I can buy the DVD? I own a region free player, in fact if you buy any Samsung DVD player and go to dvdrhelp.com you can learn how to hack the player into region free with something as simple as a 4-6 digit code you input on your remote.

That's like saying Martin isn't a Vampire-film... If a film follows the conventions and clichés of the zombiefilm genre, then it is a zombiefilm. The technical details of the monsters do not define genres.

Totally agree. How people can consider Dawn 04 or Dead Set zombie flicks yet prattle on about 28 Days Later NOT being a zombie film, I dunno...
...I know that the 'zombs' in 28 aren't dead but they have the trademark characteristics of the runner zombie. Infected, inschmected - it's all friggin' viral and they all kill their victims via munching, clawing and tearing. End of.
MinionZombie
13-Nov-2008, 11:30 AM
They're not dead in 28 Days/Weeks Later ... but they are in Yawn-fest-04 and Dead Set.
Plus, the makers of 28 never intended it to be a zombie film, they didn't direct a zombie film, nor wrote one - the writer and director have both themselves said they only took certain elements of the iconography and dropped a couple of references to GAR (whom they both admire) and that's that...you might as well call I Am Legend a zombie film then if you use your logic, and it isn't, it's a plague/apocalypse movie - same as 28 Days/Weeks Later - especially as the viral aspect, cause, spread and effect is focussed on quite closely, thus - plague movie.
A zombie, even in the voodoo sense, is someone who either is dead, or is believed to be dead (appears to be dead to onlookers who've 'seen them die' and then 'seen their corpse walk').
28 Days Later has "infected", which is precisely what the writer and director intended them to be, to set them apart from zombies.
Sheesh.
