Whew. That restores a bit of faith in me for QOS. I never expected it to be better or as good as Casino Royale, but as long as it's nowhere near as stupid as Brosnan's last flicks, then I should be cool with it. Here's hoping they get Campbell back for the final chapter in the reboot/craig trilogy.:D

Jackie Brown is Tarantino's weakest? Ehhh...I would have to say Kill Bill for that title. Mainly Kill Bill 1.

I figured Hancock was "meh". Looks like I'll be waiting for that one to hit the TV.

Actually, I prefer Jackie Brown and Kill Bill over Pulp Fiction. But never Reservoir Dogs. Never.

I quite liked Hancock :)

Felt a bit messy, but a good fun ride :)

Yeah,Reservoir Dogs is Tarantino's best movie.

Personally I think Pulp Fiction is a work of genius!

Pulp Fiction is damn awesome.

Now of course I say that Jackie Brown is QT's weakest flick - to me anyway - but that's not to say it's a weak film generally speaking. The performances were all great, that's for sure, I just didn't gel with it.

I far preferred Kill Bill (1 and 2), I was proper chuffed with that flick, and indeed I'm a big Death Proof fan.

Although I do think QT should be careful not to get too chatty, just snip it back a smidge.

...

As for Hancock, distracting enough during the running time, generally forgettable afterwards.

Jackie Brown was always my least fav of Tarantino's films.

MZ, you best give Band of Brothers fair play ;)

I saw Band of Brothers when it first aired here in the UK, and have seen it a good three times since then, so currently this is probably my fifth - maybe sixth - viewing of the series, and ever since I first saw it I thought it was a fantastic series ... and I'm greatly looking forward to "The Pacific", the Pacific-set follow-up to BoB.

Neil - RE: "Death Proof" - here's my thoughts on it from a while back:

http://deadshed.blogspot.com/2007/09/death-proof-extended.html

And then also my theory regarding the structure of the film:

http://deadshed.blogspot.com/2008/07/death-proof-theory.html

Certainly if you don't mind the chattiness of Jackie Brown, you shouldn't be flustered by the chattiness (slotted around two fantastic slabs of action) of DP.

Good read! I thought Death Proof was good fun and well thought out. I completely agree about the music, but Tarantino, in my opinion, always works music into his films in a very vibrant manner.

I too was surprised by Madagascar. Has a good deal of adult jokes to keep it interesting. Thinking about going to see the second one.

All this Tarantino talk reminded me that he's in the middle of filming "Inglorious Basterds". Sounds like it will be interesting. Tarantino WWII, Brad Pitt, Sam Jackson Narrating, Mike Meyers, and Cloris Leachman.

Weird...

Indeed, bring on IB ... and never again with the gap between projects like there was between Jackie Brown and Kill Bill, that was too damn long without any new Tarantino.

:stunned: I heard the other day about Pitt, which was cool IMO. After Fight Club & Jessie James he's ok in my book. Now the rest of that cast...:stunned:

I would have to pretty much agree with your opinions on Quantum of Solace. Not as good as Casino Royale, but still a good Bond outing.

The ending seemed a bit weak compared to the hard "f*ck yeah!" ending that Royale has, but I guess it was okay for the middle of the trilogy. Kinda ends off like Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, BTTF 2, etc where you know there's more coming.

I feel like Marc Forster could have made a much more emotionally driven film but was forced to work more with action sequences instead. He's already said he highly doubts he'll return for the third film, so hopefully they'll get someone that can really tie it all up and make it a good, solid trilogy.(I'm still hoping for Campbell's return;))

Good, free up that man's schedule to get things started on World War Z! :)

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

I've recently been home sick with strep throat, so I purchased both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace for the ol' Blu Ray and thought I would give them a back-to-back viewing. My opinion still stands that QOS isn't as good as CR, but let's not kid ourselves and admit that it never could be. But seeing it pretty much tied in with CR was AWESOME!

I have to raise my original rating for the film. It's a great sequel and pretty much the only straight-forward bond sequel ever. I definitely think now that once the third film is done, people will look at this "Bond Begins" trilogy as one hell of story.

QOS is a perfect tie in to the story set up in CR. Let's hope they really bring it home with the third film.

For me Casino Royale wins on the script and directing/photography front.

That's not to say QOS was a bad film, but I (as I've said before) feel the camera work in it was diabolical, and helped spoil some appreciated of the action sequences. They ended up feeling messy and hard to follow... Case in hand, look at the building site chase in CR... Beautifully scripted and filmed and hands above anything QOS tried...
