Google Books has made available most if not all issues of Popular Science (going back to 1872) and Popular Mechanics (going back to 1905) for our perusal.

Popular Science (http://books.google.com/books?id=cH2deQNd2yUC&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=2_2)

Popular Mechanics (http://books.google.com/books?id=RdMDAAAAMBAJ&dq=popular+mechanics&source=gbs_summary_s&cad=0#all_issues_anchor)

Not sure what's more interesting from the way back issues, the articles or the ads.

(Borat) Very nice! (Borat)

I'd throw my vote behind the articles, since most of the ads are long since expired into uselessness, unless the company changed names or someone has decided to put those plans or whatever on the net. It's neat looking through the articles and seeing what came true and what didn't. Same with Modern Mechanix which is another old magazine that's also online. What's really neat is the old DIY stuff. Problem is, some of that is also dated, like the chemistry experiments, if you can't get chemicals anymore.
