FUCK ME. i hardly ever use capital letters so that should get your attention. anyway, thanks to brett for turning me on to this and to andy for seconding it.
most of the folks in the UK know about this so just ignore this post. the rest of you need to get your fucking grimy paws on this by any means necessary.
it is a tv show about a zombie outbreak that occurs during the shooting of Big Brother. let's just say that it rocks the known nations with zombie goodness. i don't want to give too much away but if you are a zombie fan you need to see this. it is funny as hell at times, scary as hell at times. great characters abound (patrick particularly cracks me the fuck up). this show has me hooked. the zombies are "runners" but, in this case that matters fuck all.
if you can't find it on your own, PM me and i'll assist you.

No problems, Mike. Glad you enjoyed it.
I happen to think that Dead Set is quite possibly the best thing zombie related since 1990. I am very hard pressed to think of another film/show that remotely comes close. While it does have the dreaded runners, a lot of profanity and a serious amount of gore, it is witty and nailbiting with a conclusion that puts you on the edge of your seat.
The DVD was released in the UK late last year with all 5 episodes seperately on the disc but E4 recently showed the whole lot as a 140 minute movie (which I DVR-ed :D). Whatever format you find people, give Dead Set a viewing because it's one damn good zombie flick/show.

i agree with capn, this is by far the best zombie flick in eons.

yes, patrick is one of the most self-absorbed dickheads in tv/movie history. that is what makes him funny as all hell. he cares fuck all about anyone other than himself. i think he, by far, has the best lines in the show.
i think my favorite patrick line is: "i didn't say it was going to be a genteel parlor game, you titted fucking idiot!"
hell i didn't realize most of the show was up on youtube...

Glad y'all enjoyed it. It suddenly appeared on the radar 2 weeks before it aired but when it did, holy shit. I can remember going "Shit. No way" at some parts of it, thinking how the hell did they get away with that. It was on 1 of the mainstream channels as well

yeah, i wondered about that too. some of the gore in this show is damned intense, pretty graphic and the language would make andrew dice clay blush. i guess it was on later at night then, eh?

Great show - shows how important it is to have something of a budget when making a zombie flick.
Of course, this is really a mini-series. And, to my knowledge, it's the ONLY zombie series we have?
Wouldn't it be great to have a zombie series that lasted 5 seasons, as opposed to 5 episodes.

Wouldn't it be great to have a zombie series that lasted 5 seasons, as opposed to 5 episodes.
And had shamblers, rather than runners ... and it had a camera that was less wobbly, and colouring that was less gray - those were my three problems with Dead Set.
BUT - they were out-weighed by the show over-all, because it was superb. Especially the ending - which really stuck with me for days afterwards.
My only other disappointment was hearing the guy that played Patrick (who is clearly a big horror movie fan), say that he thought Yawn04 was better than Dawn78 ... ... ...:eek::eek: ... ... yeah ... also the director hadn't seen a single zombie film before he did Dead Set ... perhaps that latter one was more jealousy than anything else from my side though. :p
Over all mind you, despite my small list of 3 annoyances, Dead Set was fucking great. I got the DVD for Xmas, so I'll crack back into that again sometime soon. :)

fuck yes. awesome ending one of the better ones i've seen in eons. no american tv show would have the balls do something like that.

Yojimbo agrees with Mike. American TV would have turned Dead Set into 7th Heaven replete with impotent violence, laughable and bloodless gore and saccharine morality.

I discovered this gem because of a poster that had mentioned it in their comments for the IMBD info for World War Z.
It is a fantastic 5 part series about a Zombie outbreak ... set in a Big Brother England set....
I can not recommend it enough ... But it is bloody, gory and as they say "It is intended for Wide Screen viewing and should be watched in surround sound with the lights off."
The web site is here: http://www.e4.com/deadset/

looks like it got released in the UK on DVD back in nov. it's going for £12. there isn't any info i could find on a US release (if anyone does have info on a US release please share) but if you have a region free DVD player, you can get a copy from UK amazon.

I was very impressed by the Davina death scene - so unnatural in the movement, but it's was far more realistic because of that, if you understand. Her body went properly limp, limbs flopped around all over the place.

Saw this finally over the course of a few days - and I must say that I would SO purchase the DVD so I could see a higher quality of this series. I just hope that the US doesnt try to make a version all their own... could you imagine Julie Chen as a zombie? Jesus that would be horrible. I am going to itunes now to see if I can get my hands on a high quality version of this right now!

I just finished watching this &...wow...just....wow. I expected it to be good based on the comments, but I'm SO much more impressed than I thought I would be. This is the best zombie film I've seen in a LOOONG time.
The zombies are fantastically done, LOTS of gore, & a tense, grim, unrelenting story.
My heart was literally pounding during the last 1/2 hour.
The ending totally blew me away. I'm still in shock.
A nice set of nods to Night, Dawn & Day thrown in to boot.
Also, this movie is to reality TV what Dawn was to consumerism IMO.
Remember the first 10 minutes of Dawn '04? How great every one said that was & what if they'd made the whole movie like that? This one totally captures that vibe, crossed w/ 28 Days Later.
I'd always wondered if a decent zombie movie could be made with runners. This one is it.
If you are ANY kind of fan of the genre, I CANNOT recommend that you track a copy of this one down highly enough.
Hope I'm not building this one up too much, but I'm just can't believe how impressed I am right now.
One other thing to note. I can't wait to see this one again. I've been trying to figure out why my reaction to this one was such as it was & it me this is the same sensation I felt the first time I saw NOTLD. I didn't think a zombie movie would ever illicit that kind of response from me again.

I watched it when it was first shown on E4, superb stuff so it was (despite the runners) - I then got the DVD for Xmas, but have only done the extra features on that so far.
I'm waiting to get into the right zone for it, and then I'll plough through it all again.
Like Moon was saying - the ending is just flooring, I was utterly gripped in a big, bad, wide-eyed fashion.

Thanks Capn, MZ. It's easy to get caught up in excitement sometimes, so I was really hoping it wasn't just me. I'm utterly shocked this was a made-for-tv affair. It plays out like an epic feature movie easily. Anything else even remotely like this made for British tv? Cuz I can honestly say I've NEVER seen ANYTHING remotely this top notch made for American tv!

Yep, as I said, we've discussed the possibility on here before, of if a good zombie movie could be made with runners. Many have suspected it was possible if done right. This one did it right.

It's one that's going to stick with me for awhile, that's for sure. I REALLY want to watch it again...but 3 hours, oy! (and I have a hard time picturing NOT watching it all in one sitting either)

Get a Region Free player and just get the R2 DVD.
Us Brits have to get R1 DVDs all the time.
If you're not gonna do that, or pinch it, you'll just have to wait until some American distributor picks it up ... they're bound to at some point ... but when that'd be. No idea, and quite possibly a long-ass time.

No I think that's fine - it's just a hand set hack - although people can just Google it for themselves.
I've done it on two DVD players and they've both worked, it's basically a factory code that's used to set the region, so aye - try and find a handset hack code to region free your player, and then import the R2 DVD.

At the very least you'll be able to watch it on your computer - no doubt with a bit of Googling you should be able to find some software to make your computer region free ... I use one and it's great, that 5 changes limit you usually get on PCs is bullshit.
You should find a handset hack fairly easily, especially if you've got a big name player.

From what Andy has told me, they just played the original episodes mashed together as one film without extras.
But yeah, I agree with you. I think Dead Set definitely works better as a movie instead of an episodic series. I'm intrigued about the DVD directors cut though.
