and i'd probably give this top 10 status as one of the best scenes ever in movie history. this is from the incredible movie "sword of doom" where toshiro mifune takes on like 15 dudes at once and kicks the shit out of them, and no, they don't all attack him one at a time.krlaIm-2LE4

I still like this one,it may not be the most impressive bit of sword play, but it was extremely well done for the time it was made before CGI & all that stuff!

Love the guy's expression at 0:59! Everyone else is terrified by the old man's dire threats, but he's like: "Suuuuuure! What a fuckin' loony tune!"

I love this one. . but it's really more of a massacre than a fight

But no matter what. .this will always be my favorite sword fight. . . for nostalgic reasons.

i've always dug that scene from sword of doom for the sheer power of it. the sword play (like the sword play in the rest of the movie) is very realistic. there's none of that over top errol flynn type parrying. it is all very concise, very fast; you make a single mistake and that's it.

that scene is also iconic among my friends and i. there are people whose number i see on my caller ID and i can answer the phone with "if this is a challenge state the time and place." and we have a laugh.

While I agree that the swordfighting in that sequence is realistic, and that 50's hollywood parrying was kinda ludicrous actually, there's still more of skill (from an actors viewpoint) involved in the latter. And that's what I love so much about it!

I watch swordfights for their vivid choreography. It's like watching a beautiful dance.

I'd say that The Duellists and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) has the best swordfights ever. Especially the latter because of the photography.

But this one deserves an honourable mention as well... From Rob Roy:
