I know that this film has been in talks from quite some time now. But it looks like it has been reported that the casting in done for the actors playing each of the three stooges.

Farrelly Bros. casting “The Three Stooges,” with Sean Penn as Larry, Jim Carrey as Curly & Benicio Del Toro as Moe.

To me, those three are some big name actors. But for a Farrelly Brothers film? Aren't they above doing films like this? I don't know, I'm calling bullshit on this one until I get more confirmation.

Yeah, this news is all over. I even heard it reported on NPR. Very strange. I too am dubious until I see more info.

Moe: What do you know about art?

Curly: My dad used to draw.

Moe: he did?

Curly: Yeah, he once drew ten years with one stroke of the pen...nyuk,nyuk,nyuk.

There was a thread on this one a while back, but the "casting" (which I'm highly dubious of, UNLESS they're doing it as a bio pic?) is a new one.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck who they cast in this goddamn thing, If it ain't Moe Howard, Larry Fine, & Jerome "Curley" Howard then It.Ain't.The.Three.Friggin'.Stooges. Period.

Well I agree for the most part, although I will accept Shemp, I liked Shemp. But I never liked Curly Joe.

The Farrelly Brothers have had hits and misses. So i'm down with at least giving it a shot. Could turn out to be good.

Although some part of me thinks that Sam Raimi would have made a better Stooges director....

Which would be great to see. I'm not a huge fan of the Stooges, but respect their work. I feel it needs to be set aside and fall victim to these remakes/reinvisionings etc.

I've still not gotten over that Honeymooners remake, not that I saw it :(

A biopic, however, is different and could be truly great.

I hope the Stooges rise from their graves, zombie style, and do some serious gut munching on the Farrelys.

They say they're big fans but you know they're only really doing it to make a buck. Just like all the other needless remakes that have come out, It has a built in fan base.

Oh absolutely. I'm down with Shemp. I was alluding more to the fact that the Stooges are Mssrs. Howard, Fine & Howard. Not whatever 3 asshats you want to cast & call them "THE Three Stooges.

They did one a few years ago as a made-for-deal. I didn't get a chance to see it. Based on a biography written about them IIRC, which I really want to track down & give a read.

Word. They gotta give 'em a few eye pokes, slaps to the face I kicks to the ass first before they rip their guts out & eat 'em though. *N'YUCK, N'YUCK, N'YUCK*

Actually, now that I think of it....Sean Penn would actually make a pretty good Larry.

From what I gather it's going to be a pseudo-biopic with the actors named above playing the actual actors Howard, Fine & Howard but in the vein of the Stooges' in-movie personas.

You could probably replace them three actors and Just get Mel Gibson to play all three parts.

Good. As long as Penn was playing Larry, it would be doomed to suck. You have to get unknowns to play them. del Toro as Moe was interesting, but the rest were lame.

Possible Larry in actor....Justin Timberlake (http://www.joblo.com/how-do-you-feel-about-justin-timberlake-in-your-three-stooges-movie)?

That's an odd possible choice, to say the least. I've always like Timberlake, so i'm down for it. He's more than proven himself as a talented actor in my eyes. It's just a shame that some people can't get past him being a "pretty boy" because they're jealous of his popularity with the ladies.

You've previously heard Johnny Knoxville's name attached to the role of Moe and he remains a strong candidate with Hank Azaria also in the running. The Farrellys seem content casting a relative unknown as Curly with Will Sasso ("Shit My Dad Says") the only actor named (he's bald and heavy-set so that's a good start).

Sasso was one of the main players on Madtv. Not exactly unknown to the comedy world...

But maybe it will be sooo bad, it will be good :)

THE THREE STOOGES isn’t anywhere near as bad as I was expected it to be, but that doesn’t mean it’s particularly good either. You’ll find yourself laughing in spots, but really the whole film feels unnecessary. I could have gotten a much better experience sitting at home watching the old black and whites than I did watching imposters try to pull off the same material at the movies.

I'm going to have to completely agree with that critique. Saw it earlier today. It had its moments, but got old kind of quick. They just couldn't pull it off. I wanted some Shemp in there, too. I'm going to have to give this one a fail. Wasn't expecting much, and that's exactly what I got.
Weird thing was that the audience consisted mainly of small kids and old people, both of which laughed their ass off. And it was packed for a 4pm showing.
I should've seen Cabin instead, but I've still got the whole weekend. Oh wellz, now I can say been there, done that.
