And my state is the first to fold--what a shock!
Anyone who enters my home without permission probably won't walk out.

Intrusive perhaps. In violation of the 4th Amendment possibly. Martial Law, not even close.
What I expect is for President Grin to http://federaltimes.com/index.php?S=4062635 spend, spend, spend like there is no tomorrow.

Why not just seal the border until the crisis passes?

"Schuchat suggested it would not be effective to try to close or partially close the border based on analysis with infectious disease modeling that has been done.
“The estimates were that if there were cases in Canada or Mexico, within days, the ability to stop that introduction into the United States would be gone,” Schuchat said."
While it is no longer a possibility to "stop the introduction", couldn't we stem the flow of potentially infected persons and thus lessen the possibility of a pandemic? Heck, this might even solve some other problems we're having "on the border". ;) (yeah, I know this song is about the Basque rebellion, just change the lyrics from "fishing boats" to "pick-up trucks" and you get the idea)

Any relation to the the fact that your state also seems to have trouble with basic fractions (http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2009_04_26-2009_05_02.shtml#1241112672)? ;)

People don't want to think that way. Put it in living dead terms:
"If one zombie gets into the building, we may as well throw open the doors and let a whole mob in".
Makes as much sense as a football bat, but that's the way they see it.

while i don't think that H1N1 (the actual designation of the so-called swine flu) is going to cause the death that the 18-19 outbreak did, i can conceive of a worldwide pandemic of some virulent disease strain. in that case, liberal as i am, i have no problem with some rather draconian restrictions. one of the rights that none of us enjoy is the right to make someone else sick. this is why whenever i hear of some asshole bragging about how they go to work sick, i always think "what a fucking dick!" nobody wants your damn germs, stay your ass at home, that's what sick days are for.
