Dan Aykroyd has confirmed the third Ghostbusters movie is all set to go before the cameras - with the original cast in place to reprise the characters from the 1984 film.
The movie star reveals Sigourney Weaver has signed on for the project, alongside himself, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - and the film could start shooting this winter.
Aykroyd still fears the project could "blow up" "at any second" but he hopes the new film will herald in a new generation of all-girl Ghostbusters.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."
And the actor wants Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku to consider becoming part of the Ghostbusters family: "I think they're amazing."

Bad DJ, bad! Never trust Aykroyd. He's been saying this stuff since the nineties because he loves Ghostbusters. Whatever site you're getting this news from needs to check it's sources and stop twisting the truth.
True...it's a possiblity that it may happen now with the franchise making a come back, but this is very far from a "Go". Trust me. This will only be a for sure thing when Sony Pictures makes the official press release.
For reference....here's what he ACTUALLY SAID about the project, Murray's stance, and where he wants to take it:
“I don’t put not making the third movie on Billy. We can’t do that. I’ve been very busy. Harold’s been busy, Ivan’s been busy. And a third script really didn’t coalesce properly. And Billy, you can’t blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God’s sake. Although I’m the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I’ve never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he’s an artist. You can’t force somebody into it. I’m sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we’re at a point that there’s a story that he can accept and that’s going to work, and I think we’re going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter
If I had a nickel for everytime Aykroyd does something like this.
And FYI....Milano is already part of the series. She's the center point of the video game.

Just rolling with what the news puts out there man.
If one of the stars says its a go, then most likely, its a go.

If that were true, Ghostbusters 3 has been in production for ohhhhh....let's say 15 years or more. That's a long time for pre-production.
I'm not trying to be a downer here, but i've seen this come and go. It's a big possibility. The biggest it's ever been...but still.
And what site twisted up the story like this? You looking at IMDB or something?:p

Damn it, you beat me to it. I can recall, back in 1997, hearing/reading stuff about how they were trying to get a 3rd GB going and Murray just wasn't having it.

This rumor spread so widely yesterday that I saw a clip on the friggin news about it.....
Here's what a rep for Sony told EW:
"We couldn't be more excited about the way the new Ghostbusters film is coming together, but at this point we are focused on a great screenplay," the spokesperson tells EW. "I can't comment on specific casting choices because we don't have a finished script. We love Dan's enthusiasm and his support, and while we are making progress, we are still just in development on this project." In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Aykroyd essentially confirmed what EW reported from the ShoWest convention in April -- that the franchise film is expected to feature a "new generation" of ghostbusters. The Office scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are writing the screenplay.
So it's the same thing I was talking about. Aykroyd get's all enthusiastic during an interview because he loves GB, the article is spread around and twisted into something like "Gostbustaz 3 next yeer!!!!!111OMG", and then Sony stands up and politely says, "Shut up Dan!".
We'll see this exact same scenario play out again in less than a month's time. I would put money on it.

Perhaps if the appropriate sacrifices are made to Gozer things may turn out differently this time?

Man I see this picture everywhere. They were at a convention promoting the game.
Over on the GB boards we call these the slut costumes. They're horribly made and the blow up proton pack looks like shit. And it's upside down.
Don't get me wrong, they're nice to look at. Especially the brunette....not too fond of the blonde.
To get this back on topic....I was right when I said that Aykroyd would do this again within the month. Here's his latest nerd-gasm (http://protoncharging.com/gb/2009/05/25/aykroyd-talks-to-uk-about-gb3-female-buster-is-next-gen-leader/)for Ghostbusters.
Aykroyd loves his Ghostbusters. Unfortunately he loves to talk out of his ass as well...

Ah booth girls...pretty common at sci-fi & RPG conventions...they make me feel such a strange mix of lust & revulsion as in:
"Yes, you're hot, however if you weren't getting paid to dress up like this you wouldn't be caught dead within 100 feet of this place, and besides that, the company/product you're representing knows this place is packed with horny geeks & they're banking on the combo of your hotness+the skimpy costume being too much to resist, which kinda insults me & pisses me off in some weird way...."

While at the Sitges Film festival, Reitman had a few things to say about a potential GB3....
for the first time, possibilities are more positive than negative. Before we needed some twist to be able to make it, now if there isn’t any other major change we will do it.
“The second movie was some kind of exploitation of the first but was too heavily based on special effects, in that way losing grip on what were the driving forces of the first: characters and jokes. This is something I still regret and now I’d like to pay tribute to those wonderful characters with this new one”.
Great fucking news. I enjoy the second film for what it is, but this is right on the money.
He says some other stuff as well. Sigourney Weaver is in(Rick Moranis?!?), the game helped get the interest boiling, etc.
