A format, which has been dead for over 15 months still outsells Blu-ray. This is too funny.

Makes sense. When you've got HDDVDS out there selling for just a couple bucks, of course they're going to fly off shelves.

that cant be the same over here, i have not seen a new HD-DVD since november, gamestation has one row of one rack of preowned ones for like £3 and a wall of every shop that stocks them in the same mall is Blu-ray, Which you can get now for 3 for a tenner.
-Thats before taking into account the actual discs for your own burning use, over here i have NEVER seen a hd dvd burner but was offered a blu-ray burner with my imac last year, and hd-dvd was never even considered over blu-ray to be included as part of the curriculum at my university.
I mean maybe i just live in an area thats over saturated with blu-ray over hd-dvd but i just dont see anyone using the discs anymore, we need to burn hi def video in class we use a dual layer dvd or a blu-ray ive never heard of anyone using hd-dvd yet for the same uses as dvd as a general all purpose media format.
I get youve been championing hd-dvd over blu ray since the start, me i dont really give two craps about either one, if its cheaper ill buy the dvd instead of either honestly, but hd-dvd's have come and gone over here so im not too sure, given this is apparently an eu site that this is correct, i dunno, it just seems a bit odd to hear about hd-dvd's at all anymore y'know?

They made on burner, for LAPTOPS that i know, but not any for a desktop unit. New HD-DVD's are hard to come by in most stores, but Fry's and lots of E-tailers... aka online retailers still carry them, albeit at a discount.
For most HD-o-philes if you went purple, meaning you own both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, most people scoop up the HD-DVD of a film over th eblu version to save money, but the last known produced HD-DVD title was Twister from Warner Brothers which was put out in April of 2008.
The last internationally produced HD-DVD title was Death Proof available from a German distributor, that was December 08, however, i think it was pressed way prior to that and was just shelved until the US BR version came out first.
However, most older titles, like say Shaun of the Dead can be bought for $1.99 on HD-DVD compared to the $19.99 Blu price... or maybe I am thinking DAWN of the DEAD (04) However, most people who own both go after the HD-DVD versions to save money as the features and Picture Quality is the same if not better. The only difference from the BR to HD-DVD version is you get lossless audio on the BR, but PQ suffers because they squash file size of video to fit lossless audio and try to squeeze it on a 25gb disc compared to the HD-DVD's 30gb. They never released DAWN 04 on a dual layer Blue, nor any other HD-DVD port overs to blue, most older titles went from 30gb HD discs to 25gb Blu-rays.
Although some HD-DVD films did offer Dolby True HD which was a pretty kick ass audio quality, and while lossless is nice, it is not really needed for most films I would rather have high PQ with a good 1.5mbps DTS track than lower PQ with lossless audio.

Cool. Twister was also the very first DVD printed. :P

Holy... DVD's were $50 when they first came out?!?! I can't recall that far back... I don't think I had a DVD player until 1998 or 1999, and only because my grandparents had received it as a gift from the casino they're high-rollers at and had no idea what it was. I remember the DVD's being so expensive that my Mother and I only owned like 3... but I don't remember it being near $50.

I still have my first DVD player. Paid about 800 bucks(first two dvds were ghostbusters and aliens:cool:) for it if I remember correctly and it's the only player that's still kicking. I've bought several since then that have now died, but somehow the first and most expensive is hanging in there.
I remember my friends saying I was stupid for moving up to DVD from VHS. They said that there was no difference in the picture quality. They later admitted they were wrong, but it still blows my mind that they couldn't see it at first...

That is only based on 2,401 adults surveyed online and not actual total sales - typical Harris Poll.
Consumers are set to buy more than 100 million Blu-ray discs across the US, Western Europe and Japan within the year
Last year in the US alone, Blu-ray video retail sales increased by a whopping 320 per cent to 24 million units; and we're going to see momentum continuing in 2009, with over 80 million disc sales forecast.
