HUGE news for The Living Dead Festival (http://www.thelivingdeadfest.com) on October 30 & 31...

"My Jacket's Caught!"

http://www.imagechicken.com/uploads/1246990299073785300.jpg

That's right, Night of the Living Dead's JUDITH RIDLEY will make her first-ever event appearance in the 42 years since the film was made. Ridley portrayed "Judy," part of the ill-fated boyfriend-girlfriend duo that died in the fiery blaze of a pickup truck explosion during the mad dash to the gas pump in the original 1968 shocker. Now is your BIG chance to meet one of the screen's ultimate horror heroines for the first time anywhere.

The Living Dead Festival (http://www.thelivingdeadfest.com) is held annually in the town of Evans City, PA where Night of the Living Dead was shot in 1967. The event is organized by Gary Streiner, soundman and key production personnel on the film and at George Romero's Latent Image. Gary is busting butt big-time to put together the ultimate event for Night of the Living Dead fans, so it's time to help him out by spreading the word.

If you miss this event, you'd better be DEAD.

Can you believe it? Probably top of the wish list was Judith Ridley and we did it she will in fact do her first show ever in Evans City this October. We have my brother Russ to thank for Judy's appearance, he has been talking to her for years about doing shows. I am pissing myself with joy, fear and general excitement about this appearance. :hyper::hyper::):):elol::elol:

Thank you Dubious for the great info. This is too awesome!

Mrs. Yojimbo and I will be there and are looking forward to seeing Judy at the event-I didn't realize how hot she was until I saw her in "There's Always Vanilla" and we are also looking forward to meeting all you zombie freaks.

I wonder why she didn't do any more films after There's Always Vanilla. Perhaps Gary or someone else on here knows? I thought she was very believable in the role of Judy - if a little too submissive, but that's how the role was written - and she certainly had the Hollywood looks.

Here's something from Wikipedia that I didn't know:

Ridley's role as Judy in the original Night of the Living Dead was written specifically for her, as the character did not exist prior to filming. The producers were so struck by her beauty and photogenic looks that they included her in the film, adding scenes for her character as they went along.

Wow! So basically Russ wrote her into the movie so he could build up the courage to ask her out. That ol' dawg! :D

Judy is a very private person that's why she hasn't done any shows to this point. She actually is an artiest and never planed on an acting career.

This sounds like it's shaping up to be an awesome event. Will the guest have a table set up to sign at like your average convention and also is there an updated list of guest anywhere or are Judith and Terry Gindele the only official guest as of yet?

An additional guest has been added, Dave James. Dave was the last ghoul to be gunned down by the posse. Terry was the First to get it from Ben in the first attempt to get to the truck. Neither of these guys have been to a event ever. We will be updating information much more regularly in the next few weeks. And yes there will other guests for sure, in fact probably we will have one of the largest "Night" lists ever I would think. :elol:

I don't believe this. If you're a Dead fan living in the western PA area and you don't show up for The Living Dead Festival (http://www.thelivingdeadfest.com), you will not only lose all credibility, but you also deserve a smack upside the head.

Why would you even care about Zomebiefest, which isn't even called "Zombiefest" any longer but "Horror Realm" so they can also include all the idiotic Rob Zombie remakes and torture porn flicks, and be like every other lame "horror" convention in the country? I was a vendor at the 2007 show where they could have easily filled the Monroeville Expo Center with 20 or more Night of the Living Dead guests that live just a few mniutes away in the Pittsburgh area. They just didn't bother to look for them; I guess it's too much trouble to lift up the local phone book.

It's simply amazing to me that it's taken 41 years for there to be an event in the Pittsburgh area that honors its own homegrown horror film in a big way. Well, it's finally happening with Gary's festival. He's not only delivering the event that Night of the Living Dead fanatics like myself have waited over 30 years for, but it will probably also be the largest gathering of HPOTD freaks in one place, ever.

Are you going to miss that in order to attend some other convention once formerly known as Zombiefest? Don't make us come looking for you. :p

haha, well to be honest my friend i live in Colorado again, and just haven't updated my location. :p so i would try to time it rightly, but you are right about how lame zombiefest has gotten. i haven't been to one in 4 years, so i guess i just kinda missed it. my favorite part of zombiefest, or any other monroeville convention is talking to lenny lies and sharon hill. they make my trip! i love those guys! when i say monroeville convention i am also refering to comicon, not sure if that one has been canceled also now that they tore down the radisson. the first time i meant lenny sharon and clayton was at comicon, and i also happen to meet karl hardman and marilyn eastman. that was just before the unfortunate news of his death :( i totally agree with you, and since you called me out on it i had to explain it further, does that explain my seemingly ignorant statement? to sum it up, i wanted to go to both, but may just go to the living dead fest because A: it sounds like it's gonna totally kick ass and they havnt even announced zombiefest, and B: you helped convince me hahahaha!

lets not forget your talking to "a daily night watching badass" :p

Well now that you ask. There will be an event on Friday night that I think will end up being an event that will be talked about for some time to come. It's Andy Jones’s collection (40 to 50 pieces) of ad material that will be on display at The Strand Theater in Zelienople. The doors will open at 8 PM and end with a Midnight screening of Night. This will be a real art opening type event with all of the guests attending. In addition Andy has created a numbered limited addition commemorative book containing the material from the show. How cool are they going to be!!~ Admission to this event will be $100 and that will also get you into the Saturday events over at EDCO Park in Evans City. Lots of signing, panels, ect. That day will end with the annual screening of Night in the open chilly Fall air. We are going to be blessed with a Full Moon that weekend. I'm hoping the crowd will be 500 to 1000. We had 300 last year with about two weeks promotion. No mention of it was really on the web eather.

BTW tickets to the gala on Friday night will be limited to like 100 or 125 max + guests.
Price for other event pkgs are being figured out now.

I also want to mention my friend Terry Gindele-the first ghoul to get it from Ben's tire iron on the first attempt to get to the truck. Terry has a 5min film that is going to become as much of a collector’s item an Andy's book.

Oh and did I forget to mention JUDITH RIDLEY!!~ I had a 4hr breakfest with Judy about two weeks ago and she is so great, remember we were once brother and sister in laws. You Guys are going to just shit at how cool and normal she is.

So a more direct answer is yesssss lots of hang time. Believe it or not I have to rethink things numerous times to get more hang time in. One of the first announcements made was the official bar of the fest is Sports & Spirits on main street. Give Evans City the chance to chill you out. We are even going to have Night of the Living Dead beer for fucks sake. :elol:

Yea right you got a better place to be I don't think so. :)

I am so gutted that I can't come to this because if there was a LDF in London, I would be there like a f**king reporter for CNN. You guys across the pond have no idea how lucky you are - I'd give one of my testicles to break bread and get wasted with the NOTLD elite.

What if we can raise the cash for your flight would you come over? You are exactly the type of fan I want to rub elbows with. And that's why we have a responsibility to get you here.

If 150 people sent in $10 dollars we could have this man in Evans City in the Fall. Let's then say for your $10 donation you got your name in a box for a sweet special commemorative treat tbd. I bet we could do that in a week.

the people that work for me know of my involvement with Romero and the community of the undead. They look to joke about it and poke fun about me being a zombie in 2 of his films and what not. But they don't get the attraction to Pittsburgh or just going to places where films are made. it doesn't matter, I love it and wouldn't change a thing.

What?! Is that it?! This is complete BULLSH*T! There should be like 25 names on the list already. Come on--we are letting all of George Romero zombiedom down without a sizable HPOTD showing.

Also, don't forget to add Yojimbo (+1), Danny Terror and Debbieangel to the list.

More! More! MORE! MORE! MORE!

They look to joke about it and poke fun about me being a zombie in 2 of his films and what not.

This would make for a great panel discussion at the fest: "I was a George Romero zombie and all I got was a lousy $25." You could put together a cross-section of extras from the veteran dead like Dave James and Terry Gindele to the current dead like Monroezombi.

An equally cool panel discussion would be "I hunted the Living Dead and all I got was a lousy $25" featuring Dick 'black hat" Heckard, George Kosana and any other posse members from the Romero films that can be found.

There also needs to be an official The Living Dead Festival Guest thread. (Okay, I'm working on it...)

For a panel question, how about their oddest moment over the years stemming from their NOTLD appearance. Whether it be a random fan seeing them and reacting or perhaps it could be something their neighbors or co-workers had done...whatever they would deem the oddest moment.

I'm going to try to make it up. I really want to come and I'm planning to as of right now, but times are tough all over.

Listen up!

Facebook is kind of gay, but let's use it to our advantage. I suggest that everyone who is able hit the Living Dead fest page that Gary set up there. Look, you can find Girly friends or boytoys AFTER the Fest, but right now if you need to communicate something or just want to pal around chatting up the show this would be a logical place to hit. The Official site for the fest is operational, but as you might have noticed still being tweaked. By all means go there for news and updates. So Between HPOTD, The Official Living DeadFest page, and the new Facebook page everyone should be able to figure out how everything is going and what to expect. Come on! Spread the Word Ghouls!!! :skull:

I have an idea for an extra "event", if you want to call it that - how about visiting the old Latent Image building downtown in Pittsburgh? I realize it would be a little bit of a trek from Evans City, but maybe there is a way to work it out? I've dealt with the landlord of the building several times and he has always been nice enough to allow me, and some other board members here as well, to go down to the basement and check out the original filming spot from Night of the living dead .
Maybe it could be a limited ticket type of deal? What do you think Jim or Gary? Just a thought! :)

It's a great idea and it would be awesome for NOLD fans to be able to visit the original basement, particularly if Kyra was involved and could serve as a guide. That location is a huge part of horror film history as far as I'm concerned. :)

The main problem is that it's a cramped area and tours would have to be limited to small groups, making it logistically difficult. Also, if you're planning to bring any substantial amount of people down there, it's been my experience that the landlord would not only want to be compensated but would require a hold-harmless agreement from the festival in case anyone is injured.

I forgot to mention that my daughter is driving me and our neighbor which also is a fellow deadhead is going too.
So, that would be:
Debbieangel
Heather
Moh

I am working on them to take me because I can't drive myself due to health reasons. It's too far for me to drive myself. :(
I am sure my daughter or my neighbor friend will take me. :)

My attending LDF is looking doubtful. My boss is not entertaining the idea of me being away for another week whatsoever. Got my passport sorted though. :(

That really bites the big one. Perhaps you could do a video greeting that we could play before the screening. I still consider you the ambassador to the UK. :barf:

You know the crazy thing is when your trying to entertain the public it’s a total crap shoot. I keep saying it is like throwing a party, you never relax till the first 10 guests arrive. (wonder if it has any thing to do with the shit load of vodka by then??) There have been hundreds of people tell me how great it will be to be there in the park, but how many will show up? Between this year and last year I figured out that about 30% of all the people that say will come actually do. And there’s nothing wrong with that just makes planning harder. We had like 275 last year so I’m counting on 800 this year and then I think of 800 people doing anything and I freak out. That’s a lot of opinions and hard to please all. So I keep falling back on the fact that the real fans want time with guests and with like minded Night of the Living Dead fans.

What do you do when you invite loads of people over for a picnic at EDCO Park? Make it a Pig Roast! Yes that’s right you heard it here a Pig Roast on Friday afternoon around 5:30. Trust these Evans City people, they know how to do a Pig. Too bad the corn will be over by then. Evans City Sweet Corn is hands down the best thing you have ever eaten.

The event is really coming along nicely. I will have several more things to announce this week.

I say all this knowing that between this site and others we have gotten well over 5000 hits in the last few weeks. the word is getting out but never forget to pass the word on we need all the help we can get. :D:D

Really hate that George got "Stay Scared" it's a really good one.

Looking Foward to all the Events leading up to Gary's 'Livingdeadfest'
was lucky enough to book 10 days in nearby Zelienople back in April. And now theres more events popping up in nearby Evans City just in time!..think the 'Farmer Market Festival' event is right around that time of year too.

this NOTLD event has to be one of the best of its kind since the films release.
a must for Living Dead Heads:skull:

GS...still like to volunteer in anyway i can to help LDF, which includes being there a week before the show. like to be part of your team

We will be adding things to this list and we will get it up on the activity's page but here you go.
Back by popular demand, The Living Dead Festival returns to Evans City, Pa., filming site for George Romero's cult classic "Night of the Living Dead."
On Friday, Oct. 30
2 p.m. Ghouls will converge on EDCO Park, 154 W. Main St., to eat, drink and be scary. Currently 13 cast and crew members of the film will be on hand to sign autographs and field questions.
All during the event, diehard fan Andrew Jones will display his collection of rare "Night" artifacts, including photographs, newspaper ads and promotional items. He'll also sign copies of his book, "Advertising 'Night of the Living Dead.'"
Ghoul enthusiasts also can take a trip on Time & Space Toys' Living Dead Experience Ride and get Special Effects makeup demonstration from Benzidream FX Studios while also getting your own face painted for the Ghoul Fest in the park at dark. Brian Denisiuk of Toonbrain will sketch creepy caricatures of attendees. As a special treat we have the best tattoo shop in Pittsburgh Jesters Court on the grounds. Sean P. McCarthy and two other artists’ will be on hand to give you your Night of the Living Dead tats.
3 pm On stage panel talk with Russ Streiner , Terry Gindele, Dave James, Josephine Streiner, John Russo
4 pm First live band tbd and back to signing.
5:30 pm Pig Roast Feast
6 pm On stage panel with Judith Ridley, Chuck Craig, Dick Heckard, George Kosana
7 pm Live band on stage
8 pm Cast and crew go home
9 pm gates close
On Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m., the creeps will return for more Halloween high jinks at EDCO Park.
Meet and greet horror icons, listen to macabre live music and get a tattoo from one of the Jester’s Court artists to commemorate the event.
1 pm On stage panel with Judith Ridley, Russ Streiner, Dave James, John Russo
2 pm Live band tbd.
5 pm Ghoul gathering…Get your best ghoul on and frolic to a live band before the grand finale.
7 pm We will start with a panel with every guest that is there. Followed by a screening on 15- by 20-foot inflatable screen of Terry Gindele’s “Day in the Life of a Ghoul” and then “Night of the Living Dead” for the 2nd Annual Living Dead Fest. Nearly 300 rabid fans attended last year's screening I’m hoping for over 800 this year. 15- by 20-foot inflatable screen.
