I'm looking for one or two rodent skulls, say 3 or 4" long, that I can use to make a necklace and cameo set :) I've had a hunt round google but the only ones I can find are gilded and $100+ :( I don't want them gilded anyway, I want them to be bone-coloured. I want to make something like these:

Just thought I'd ask as it seemed like the weird kind of thing someone on here might know! I need them by 12th September at the absolute latest. Thanks in advance!

Maybe I should put some cages out tonight. I could have helped you with one, but the skull is an inch too short. I think.

I you sure you're not confusing inches with centimeters? An animal skull 3-4 inches long would be about the size of human fist.

I'm not mistaking inches with cm but having actually looked at a ruler I actually want them to be 2 - 3", not 3 - 4"! Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for the link stray, should be useful :)
I've managed to convince Amore de Mori (http://www.amoredemori.com/page3.htm) to lend me some stuff in time for September now, so the pressure's off in that sense but I will still be keeping my eye out for any rat skulls I can buy for less than 20 bucks a piece to attach to hats and necklaces and things :)
Btw, in case anyone's worried I'm not going to have any animals killed for this! ADM gets her supplies from reptile food shops, pest control, roadkill etc, so nothing is being killed that wasn't being killed anyway.

Cant help you with rodent skulls, but I do have 2 large dog skulls I found when I was a kid & kept! Theres a place in the village I live in that used to be an abbatoir decades ago & the grounds around it are still littered with skulls & bones

Will human skulls do? I've got plenty of them out in the Gulag, erh, I mean... The backyard. Someone dumped them there... Bastards.

I trap them anyways for pest reasons. I will let you know if I find something. Btw, not to sound like a smart ass. But the animals were already killed. Not like we're borrowing their skulls on a temporary basis. ;)
I did find a mumified rat under a shower stall at my grandfather's house that we are currently remodeling. The skin turned into paper. The skull maybe an 1 1/2 - 2 inches. I will check this week. Btw, it died of natural causes so many years ago. :dead:

You might want to get in contact with a local taxidermy shop. They usually have a good supply of the flesh eating beetles used to clean up skeletons.
Either trap the rats yourself or alternately drive around rural roads looking for roadkill. Would think a skunk or possum skull would work just as well. Store the carcasses in a plastic garbage can. Just drop them off before they get to smelling too bad.
Bit ghoulish but in the long run will be cheaper than buying parts off ebay.

Well yeah, what I meant was, I'm not going to set rat traps myself and kill the little ratties just so I have something cool to go on a necklace, I'm going to buy ones that had been killed anyway e.g. due to pest control. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me but please don't kill anything just for my little project!

I would totally look out for roadkill and clean it in the garden at home if I still lived in the sticks. I now live on the first floor in London so there's nowhere to do stuff like that except in the flat, which I don't want to end up smelling like rotting rats :hurl: Plus, come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any roadkill since I moved here. Maybe city animals are smarter than country ones. We don't have skunks or possums over here but a rabbit skull would be pretty cool if it had long teeth!

Get outta here. You'll get no respect from me until you kill some rats with your bare hands, drink the congealed blood and flay the skulls with your teeth. :p
But seriously, that Amore de Mori web site is really twisted. "Kawai Nazi" must be some sort of crazy Japanese trend. Did she really work with Jan Svankmajer?

I don't know. Where does it say she did?
Kinda cool that she models for Dominick Destruction, didn't realise s/he did photography as well :)

Under "Nana Rape Blossom" it mentions Jan Svankmajer's Alice.
To be honest, I don't understand half of what is posted on that web site. You kids today and your crazy lingo.

You mean with these pictures?

I can't see anything about Svankmajer, must be going blind :dead:
This "about me" pwns any other "about me" section I have ever read, mind:
I started my work with taxidermy after a terrible bout of insomnia. Whilst lying in bed one night I had a vision of the Virgin Mary casting a sleepy amber beacon of light to all dead and dieing animals. That light was the salvation of eternal sleep. After that I knew I wanted to work with taxidermy.

Under "Sleep-taxidermy art," the third photo link down on the right. The text mentions Jan Svankmajer.
For those unfamiliar with the name, Svankmajer is the creator of some truly surreal and innovative animated films. Eating (or more appropriately, "consuming") is a common theme.

I've got a few lying around...although I am located in the states. I think a fox skull would be the perfect size...I'll see if I can't take a pic of one. Even a opossum skull would probably work for ya...wish I new about this I killed on a few months back...LONG STORY!!!

Ah found it! I think she's saying that her photos were inspired by a piece of Svankmajer's art that was called Alice.
