yes, you read that right and it isn't some cruel joke by me.

disney is remaking....wait for it...wait for it...a 3D version of yellow submarine. the one bright spot in all this is that robert zemeckis is attached as director.

this is the extent of the news release:

A 3D remake of The Beatles' 1968 film Yellow Submarine has been confirmed, Disney Studios has announced.

It will incorporate the 16 Beatles songs and recordings from the original animated film.

Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook said the new film will be directed by Robert Zemeckis using the same motion-capture effects employed in Polar Express.

still, i'm firmly in the "whatever" camp about this idea.

I still dont understand the need for all these remakes, especially yellow submarine which is very much of the time it was released! Why not just re-release the original, digitally remastered or something? The worst part about all these remakes is that anyone under the age of 18 probably thinks they are the originals!

I don't mind. Bring it on. You can't go wrong with more Beatles in the world.

What many people don't realize is that the original wasn't even voiced by the band...

I actually heard that from my dad. Good guy, you chaps would like him.
Submarine remake? How could they! - Noodle
It's all right, Noodle. I'm sure it's just a joke... maybe. - Murdoc
What's next, remake of The Wall? Or Tommy? Or Rock 'n' Roll High School? - 2D
Um, I think they already did that last one, D. It's called HSM. - Russel

kinda off topic, but has anyone played that beatles rock band game? as much as i think that genre is overfuckingdone, it still looks like a great experience if you're a fan of the music...

....oh and the only disney movie i'm interested in seeing is toy story 3. :D

Another thing is, and I know i'll get shot for this, but Im of the opinion that the Beatles are the most over rated band ever!

I'm gonna very cautiously agree with you there. I mean, I deeply RESPECT them because the changed the face of music and helped define rock n' roll and were so influential to thousands of bands. At the same time, however, I personally just don't enjoy their music all that much. I'm more of an Elvis kinda guy.

There were other bands around at the same time as the beatles that I prefer, such as the kinks, the doors, the animals etc. People rave on about the beatles but having listened to their stuff I was far from bowled over by it & fail to see what all the fuss is about, yet people look at me like i've just pissed in their chips if I say I think they're overrated! I know theres all the claims that without the Beatles there wouldnt be any rock bands now, but I think thats a load of crap, there would have been loads of other bands doing a similar thing at the time, they just happened to be the first to get signed..

We'll see. I keep thinking about John Lennon spinning in his grave every time I see his CGI-imposed image on a commercial for a video game, but what are you gonna do?

Between Viva Viagra and the marketing gorillas using a techno-imposed John Wayne (that cunt-faced, over-compensating draft dodger) to shill their beer for them after he'd been well dead, I can't say there's much left for me to be surprised by when it comes to making a buck.

I'm more of an Elvis kinda guy.

Didn't see that coming, for whatever reason, but very cool.

After the crap movies they made, I don't see that Rockband commercial being any worse....

Anywho....in case anyone didn't catch Polar Express(I still haven't seen it, actually) or Beowulf, here is the trailer for Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol. This should give an idea as to what Submarine could look like. Is he ever again going to make movies the old fashioned way? You know...with real people?:shifty:

Okay, so Disney's involved...but is Pixar going to be on board?

The only way I can see this working is with Pixar's people.

'Specially since the real target audience for this thing only knows the Beatles from the history books.

The Beatles were good but they have been surpassed in almost every aspect, there was better stuff before & there was better stuff at the time. People often just praise them because it's the done thing, which is lame.

It's got to the point where there was a documentary on the BBC the other day that seriously suggested there was a concrete link between The Beatles & the fall of the USSR.

GET A GRIP

But yeah, this remake sounds unnecessary, just 3d-ise the original somehow

I know this isn't really about the topic (I'm not too bothered about The Beatles either way) but personally I would much rather have a ride on a horse and cart.

wow, this thread went off the rails fast.

i think the reason i find this a bit irksome is that i have really fond memories of "yellow submarine" from childhood, oh fuck it mike, nobody cares anyway so...

acheulean hand axes like a mu'fukker!

Ahaha  I really do wish I were more rural... most I've done is stroke a horse on a school trip to look at some villages.

Sorry, way off-topic again. I'll stop now.
