I never really understood how polygamy works in a society. Sure, maybe back in the day when Zulu women outnumbered Zulu men (with a high percentage of the males dying in battle with Michael Caine or Burt Lancaster), but now? Surely there are very few places in modern society where women outnumber me to such a degre. With male and female populations at roughly 50:50 in most countries, surely the logical conclusion is a few men hoarding most of the women, and lots and lots of poor single guys. I can't imagine it would be all the great for the women in the relationship either; sure they say they feel happy and empowered - but much like porn "stars" - I suspect their so-called empowerment comes more from taking the easy financial option without choosing to actually work to better themselves, than from any sort of personal satisfaction with their life.

most cultures that still practice polygyny (more than one wife) or its very rare relative polyandry (more than one husband) almost always require that spouses be provided with separate households. considered like that, it doesn't sound so fun.

i'll say this: there is NO WAY i'd ever have more than one wife. those of you married or who have been married can feel where i'm coming from. one is enough, four would be grounds for a long dive off the top of bridge.

The first bride looked utterly miserable, poor cow.

I bet he's got a digital video camera locked and loaded for honeymoon night. ;)

I think I laughed at that a little bit more than I should have. Though good job showing some love for Zulu Dawn!

Either way, if he survives the wedding night, then well done.

Still ... bit iffy isn't it? But as long as it's consensual from all parties, then who am I to judge?

Just iffy to one's general sensibilities...I'm all for polygamy!!!!!!

it's the 4 times the naggin' part that is a total deal breaker. relationships are a ridiculous amount of work and energy, i can't even imagine what something like this would be like and i don't really want to.

polygyny - not something i find even remotely appealing.

I guess it's hard enough to find the right partner, let alone four right partners...only as strong as your weakest wife and all that...

Although, as the guy has no problem with marrying three women at the same time, I'm sure he has no problem with surviving nagging.

Perhaps he might discourage nagging too, if you know what I mean - I mean who really knows either way, right?

yeah, i know what you're getting at. my western ideas of what a relationship ought to be about might not necessarily apply.
