Coppola and Spielberg? As long as Lucas only has story duties and someone else handles the scripts....I'm sold.:)

But on the other hand, I'm of the opinion that the prequel trilogy wasn't that bad. It obviously wasn't as good as the originals, but it had it's moments.

In the end it may be best to just let it go and be done with SW...

No thanks - never been a star wars fan even in terms of the original ones. I mean they're OK, good adventure films that need to be there...but it's almost like the Eiffel Tower, y'know? Its there, its pretty...but to be honest I can't be arsed to walk up that staircase...

bad analogy #9293

I always thought Lucas was a disappointment, especially when you look at Empire which was far superior in the series, it outshines anything he contributes directorially...it seems Lucas has a weird attitude to it, like always trying to gear the films towards kids (especially apparent with characters like Jar Jar Binx) and making the recent ones into cheesy escapades more suited to the disney channel than a serious sci-fi fan. The addition of certain story elements like "mediclorians" seemed a cop out way of explaining the "force" - and just added this childish air to it...but thats just the new ones I guess...

the originals were very nice and visual, but found the relationships between the characters pretty annoying - especially Han and Leia...it never stuck to me, rather than slid off as filler in the movies...I dunno I just felt it had enough in it - story strands, character development and good background that really felt thought out - but I just didn't really get turned on by it.

No thanks

ditto here. i have no desire to see anymore star wars movies. the phantom menace sucked goat turds, clones was a ridiculous mass of a movie, the 3rd movie had its moments but was shot down ultimately by some of the worst writing and acting (particularly from hayden christensen or what ever the fuck his name is) i've ever seen.

the original 3 hold a special place in my heart from childhood but as i've gotten older, they look more and more trite and inane with every passing year.

This is one of the dumbest rumors I've ever heard. There is no way on earth that Coppola would direct a Star Wars film.

After his last two films were pretty much flops, he may be looking for something more mainstream like SW. It's a stretch, but ya never know. After all....he did direct Jack and that was a departure from his normal style. And he is friends with Lucas and Spielberg...

Yup, wholeheartedly agree. I got a documentary on Coppola where he almosts blasts Lucas for wasting his career on Star Wars.

i don't think anyone is "calling" on lucas to retire. personally, i don't care what the guy does, he can live to be 100 or die tomorrow and it would mean zero to me. i just don't care to see anymore star wars movies.

That's right. I think Coppola appreciates the Star Wars film, but he would never tackle directing one. He is into art/indie films now like Youth without Youth and Tetro.

Being a die-hard battery... I mean, Star Wars fan, I would agree with all the above... it's spelled "midichlorians". And yes, they're ridiculous. It's like... Dragonball and Dragonball Z, you know? Where the original trilogy is Dragonball. See, first it's the cute adventures of a monkey boy... And then with the second trilogy, it's all fighting and macho stuff that the consumers like, like Z! Maybe? I don't know... I always liked Empire, but missed the cool aliens like with the other two...

A thrid trilogy?

I say bring it on!

After Lucas has died, so he can't mess it up, and please use Timothy Zahn's trilogy as the basis.

I enjoyed those books and think it could work...but bringing back the old cast would be a difficult (financially) thing.

Nah, I think we're well past the point of bringing back the old cast.

Get some unknowns and have them play the characters, however many years after the fact, and be done with it. Enough time has passed and Harrison will never be Han again and present-day, frumpy Carrie Fisher will never wear a golden bikini again (you may now commence clawing your eyes out over that image).

Granted. Hamill wouldn't be too problematic, though.

Is that guy wooden or what? We should just call him pinochio from now on.

I don't know who's worse him, keanu reeves or Nick Cage.

Michael Cera is in the lead with Keanu Reeves gaining quickly. Hayden is at the back of the pack wondering where his career went after SW....

Holy shite!! How could i forget him!?!

He seems to play the same character in every movie. I have to watch for about 10 minutes in order to determine whether I'm watching Juno or Superbad. (Two excellent movies despite his contributions by the way)

What upsets me about this is that this news fails to elicit any response from me at all. Time was, I would have pissed myself and quacked after hearing about this. Now. . . after the prequels. . . I . . just .. . . can't . . give. . .a shit.

I used to be of the opinion that the prequel films didn't suck too bad. But just the other week I sat down and started watching Episode 1. And then Episode 2. And then I quit. I couldn't take it anymore.

Don't think the prequels suck? Well, they do. They suck worse than anything that cost over 100 million bucks has ever sucked before. They're the fucking worst sci-fi films I've ever seen. Ever. Period.

i can second that while saying that the 3rd movie has a couple of redeeming qualities. the phantom menace and clones are both mammoth pieces of twice eaten and regurgitated monkey vomit. i am surprised that there is anyone out there who would defend those epic pieces of cinematic weasel stool. poorly written, poorly directed, poorly acted.

indeed, the worst things that $100 million (or more) was ever shit away on.

i didn't pay to see clones or sith nor will i ever again pay to see anything george lucas' name is associated with. he's dead to me.
