I'm not very good with carving pumpkins. In fact, last year was the first time I tried something complicated but I had a template to help...

This year I decided I would try something free hand. That would be the Dawn logo. It's not perfect by any means, but it was rather difficult and I'm kinda proud of it, so I thought I would share.

Keep in mind, it's not the same logo. Just a simpler version that I could try myself. It looks much better in person as the camera I have is a piece of shit and makes everything blur....

EDIT: After seeing how massive these were on the page I changed them to links.

Took the lid off to give it some air. The candle kept dying out.

And of course I've got to take this opportunity to show my new and improved costume.:D

And just to add some cuteness to the page - My daughter in a clothes dryer (http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy115/bassmanfincha/Ghostbusters001.jpg).

Those are pretty awesome bassman. How long did it take?

About an hour I think. It's at the very least recognizable as the logo, so I'm pleased.

Is there a template floating around for this? I searched but all I could find was the Dawn remake logo....

Excellent job on the carving! I would think you could just print out a pic of the Dawn logo and use that as your template...you could even adjust it to whatever size you wanted.

Not perfect? That's a damn fine Dawn pumpkin.

If I were to implement my skills at making a Dawn pumpkin, it would probably come out like this:

or like this:

Not bad at all. Would've been nice to see the eyes though.

That was the trickiest part. I spent the entire afternoon thinking of how to make the eyes stand out, but in the end the "crescent moons" look was the best I could come up with.

Philly - I thought about trying to print the logo to us as a template but it would've just been impossible to carve the "correct" damage on his face.

Ouch. But yes....it's true.:p Being her father I'm surprised she didn't come out looking like the Elephant Man.

We're going to do some more pumpkins this week and was curious if anyone knew any good design sites? Right now I'm torn between these three...

Very cool carving job, Bassman!

With regards to the stencils your looking at for your next go-a round, I say you try whichever of the three pumpkin designs you feel most comfortable with, they all look good.

I'd love to see the foursome silhouette from Dawn done, though. Maybe with the the blocky Dawn title over top of it. That'd be cool as hell.

And a really beautiful pic of your pride and joy, Bassman (hint: I am not referring to your new Ghostbuster costume :p)!

Well I am going to comment on the Ghostbusters costume.

Wow... that is freaky cool. I'd love to have a GB costume. That's a slice of awesome.

So far the only people that have seen it are my family and friends. And they all know I'm obsessed with the film....so they get it. Not sure if it will last till Saturday for trick or treaters, though. I carved it a bit early just to see if it could be done and shown to yous guys. It will probably be too rotted and look like Bea Arthur by then. :p
