I don't usually find threads like these very interesting, but I was thinking about how most of the human characters in Day of the Dead don't have their full names ever mentioned. We know Pvt. Miguel Salazar, Bill McDermott, Dr. Ted Fisher, and Dr. Matthew Logan. But what about...

Sarah ?
John ?
Capt. ? Rhodes
Pvt. ? Steel
Pvt. ? Rickles
Pvt. ? Torrez
Pvt. ? Johnson
Pvt. ? Miller
Maj. ? Cooper

What do you think their names would be? I apologize in advance to PhillySwat if he's addressed this already. ;)

Sorry, I just corrected that mistake - I experienced a brain fart there.
I literally laughed out loud at "Herman Steel". Excellent choice.

I didn't realise Logan's first name was revealed as Matthew. Remind me - what scene was that in?

To be honest, I don't remember it ever being mentioned in the film either. However, on Robert Telleria's site about the film - http://drlogan.tripod.com/cast.htm - he lists that name. I just assumed that Robert knew what he was talking about because he was once one of the biggest fans and "authorities" of the film.

could it have been listed in the script but never used? or maybe it is from the original, unshot script?

I should know the answer to this, but I don't. I have the original script, which I read about 10 years ago. I honestly don't know. I'm too lazy to read it again or watch the dvd for any clues to this.
I just looked at the wikipedia page about the film and they have Lori Cardille's character name listed as Sarah Bowman. WTF? I've never heard that one before.

Nope, it's not in the 1984 script. I thought maybe the script would have first names/surnames for some other characters that were in the final movie, at least for Sarah, but nope. In the original script Sarah is a scavenger/raider who finds the base with her bandito boyfriend Miguel, she's not a scientist and is given no surname. The character that actually fills a similar role in the script to the one Sarah plays in the final movie is called Mary Henried.

I did hear somewhere that the prop newspaper that blows against the wall in the opening scene does contain actual articles including mentions of both Dr. Millard Rauche (linking Dawn and Day in a very, very minor way) and Dr. Logan. It's possible his forename comes from there.

The lead in the 2008 remake is called Sarah Bowman, I think that's where it came from. I very much doubt the writers of the remake know anything we don't, I think they just made it up because no surname was given in the source material.

Like I said, she's only called Bowman in the 2008 remake. This seems to have quietly fed back onto some websites pertaining to the original, in the absence of a surname given in that film, but it all stems from the remake.

I don't know man. I've never seen the remake, cared about it, discussed it, or so much as IMDB'd it. I don't go to other zombie sites.

It also seems like I knew this from a long time ago. Like I saw it on a video cover sleeve or something. Crap. This is gonna bother me now.

Actually, Colombia might be a good setting for a zombie flick, what with all the cartel victims in shallow graves...

Hmm... Could be. Was it maybe stencilled on her bag at the start of the film when they first head underground?

The problem with this is: I don't think the writers of the remake so much as looked at a script for the original, or even watched it in-depth. I find it difficult to fathom that those money-grabbing franchise-rapists would know something about this film that all the raging fanboys on here don't.

Also, literally everyone is the world has "false memories" of some description. I'm not saying your wrong but I can't discount it. I know that sounds a little smart-assish but I don't mean it like that at all, it just takes the tiniest seed to be planted in your subconscious for it do grow into a feeling of recognition or even a full blown "memory". Happens to us all, even though usually we don't know it.

That's probably not the case but you never know. More research into this Bowman thing is called for methinks.

...it's just a pain in the ass we can set Google to only return pages from over, like, two years ago. Then we'd know if the name was around before the remake...

Ummm...you CAN set google to search only within certain time frames. Click on "Show Options", and a list comes up on the left hand side. One of the options is
>Specific Date Range. I just did that, and nothing comes up from that time frame.
