Now i dont like these scanners, not only does it say to me that the goverments saying the 'terrorists have won' but they violate general ideas of human deceny and privacy, as well as uk child pornography laws. god knows no parent wants a random airport mall cop to take pictures of your kids junk.
but i was just linked to this, its a german show where an english guy is brought on with the scanner to demonstrate it.
He picks up the scanned presenters swiss army knife, his cell phone and his studio mic.

what he doesnt pick up is the components for a bomb he hid on his person, including thermite and magnesium, not one of them was picked up. at. all.

if this is accurate this should be the proof these things are a useless gimmick. if a search and regular x ray scanner or whathave you wont catch a terrorist then this certainely wont.

i would go for useless gimmick. a scanner like this cannot detect the basic chemicals it takes to make a bomb or even start a fire.

mixing glycerol and potassium permanganate will start you one hell of a fire. both of these are common components of first aid/survival kits.

unless you happen to have a tricorder handy (if you do i suggest you market it, that would be worth literally billions) there is no way to "scan" someone for those things.

i recommend we send T pain to search for bombs, he'd be more likely to find them than this ghost trap thing.
