So, what do you guys think?:

I'm pretty torn to be honest. I loved Dog Soldiers and Doomsday, The Descent was pretty cool too, but... is it just me or does this one look a bit naff? I mean, the cinematography looks excellent, the action scenes well shot and the plot interesting, but it's the little details that are making me feel a little like "seen it all before":
We've got a skinny MTV-esque chick with perfect teeth, sexy "goff" eye makeup and the upper body strength of a circus strongman leading the picts for a start.

I've liked all his previous films. Doomsday being the least favourite, but it was Okay. Otherwise, this film doesn't really look as if it has anything "special". I'm kinda bothered when roman soldiers, or legions rather, are portrayed as incompetent and weak. Sure, there were instances where they were ambushed like this... But if you're gonna make a movie about that, make a movie about Teutoberg Forest!

I really wanna see his 'zombies on an oilrig' script made into a movie. That's been circling around and around since before The Descent, if memory serves.
I've dug all his previous flicks, but I duno, seeing that this was his next movie ... I wasn't particularly interested. Will no doubt see it sometime, but I duno...

Seems a bit too "actiony" of a historic film for me to enjoy. I like films that try their hardest to retell a plausible story from those days. 300 and the like I really find boring.

Too right man, I'd much prefer an historical drama with a minimum of action and a maximum of historical merit. If you could pack maximum of both in a film then all the better but that rarely happens.

I didn't see those escaped survivors carrying out their legionary eagle standard.
Tsk, tsk...

Aye, the Roman Legions didn't dominate the world because they were all tactically inept sissy's.
Also getting a bit sick of "warrior princess" types.

Amen, as am I. Not because I have anything against women fighting in action films or anything like that, but these warrior princess dudettes are always the same thing: Lightly clad ladies who are mysterious, sexy and expert martial artists. Come on, come up with something new!

Exactly, they usually look like they're gonna freak out because they broke a nail or got mud on their designer armour. These "sexy, tough" chicks are just a way for lazy writers get some "ass" into their stories while telling themselves it's okay because she's a "strong female" - never mind the fact that she's a complete cardboard caricature and will never inspire anything in the female audience other than envy over her perfect eye makeup. Compare the memorable character of Ripley from the first four Alien flicks, with the instantly forgettable heroine of AvP. See the difference? That's what I mean. Studios also like these shallow heroines because they can cast just anyone in the role and because they combine the two things ADHD kids love: fighting and boobies.
