Last night I decided to grab my ROTLD 2 DVD and give it a watch. I of course do not use the Warner Brothers screwed up released with the alternate score, I use the bootleg I bought at the convention in Jersey 2 years ago. Anyway, I know many zombie film fans either loathe this series or only really care for the 1st film yet ROTLD 2 is the only true sequel in the entire series.

My question is, to those who were alive when the film was in theaters and know that 80's vibe, do you think ROTLD2 holds it's place in the 80's cheese, but good entertainment category?

I think the film has some great laughs, and is entertaining when you're in the mood for brainless (no pun intended) fun entertainment. The film although a rehash of part 1, seems deliver great adult style comedy as well as those funny roll you eyes moments. I think James Karen played his part to perfection as he did in the first film and Thom Matthews did fantastic as well. Considering the film is campy do you feel it deserves a place in the time capsule of 80's cheese films?

ROTLD2 wasn't a very good movie. Bringing back actors from the first movie as different characters in the sequel. Not to mention it wasn't as hardcore as the first film. People were really getting sick of cheesy 80's suburb movies by the time this was released.

Recall watching all three Return of the Living Dead movies on VHS video rentals. Apparently there was a theatrical release per boxofficemojo.com

Return of the Living Dead Part II isn't that bad of a movie. Sure it's nowhere near as good as the first, but since I saw ROTLD 2 first, I guess it has a certain personal value to me. However, I give it a little more credit because it wasn't originally going to be ROTLD 2. It was something else until the producer got the script and decided to make it part of the franchise, kind of like Hellraiser: Deader(ROTLD 2 dvd commentary). If they started from scrap and brought back Dan to write and direct, it would've been more adult focused. But since they wanted a cheap cash in from the first, they chose the easy way out. But anyways, it was good, but should've been better...kind of like X-Men 3.

ROTLD2 was pretty good, I was young and found it funny and should go down with the great 80's cheese. The best part was the gag with the Michael Jackson Thiller thing at the end. Good Cheese!!:D

I actually semi liked this movie. Nothing special...but your typical cheesy 80's flick. Yes...people got tired of them...and this one is no different...but not bad either way.

I think James Karen was funny as hell in this film. I love the scene when him and Thom Matthews arrive at the Cemetary to start pillaging and Thoms girlfriend is giving him a hard time about wanting to go out that night and have some fun. They have a small argument then they kiss and make up. James Karen is standing off to the side giving these uncomfortable looks towards the camera then as they begin walking away he says "God Damn Mushy Stuff" :D

"get that damn screwdriver outta my head!!!"

that line was the best thing in part two, kinda like nude Linnea Quigley was the best thing in part one

like i've said previously, this series is laughable, at best

Ehh, I think they're all too much cheese. Hell, I would rather watch "Dawn04" than the ROTLD films...

If in you mean that the sequels drug the series down... yes I agree. However, the first one is a cult classic and I think of it to be as good if not better than DAWN 1978.

blasphemy

the series breaks the rules set forth in night 68, as far as how you dispose of the living dead. you can argue change, or trying to be original, but IMO Romero set the rules with night, what gives this series the right to change the rules when so many other zombies movies have followed them. kinda disrespectfull the way i see it

cult classic, maybe, but if so, it's more cause Linnea Quigley is nude in it, plus a few quirkly lines here & there ("send more paramedics")

That's exactly how I'd describe ROTLD2 - good 80s cheese. I know the vibe you're talking about and as a child of the 80s it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. It's not that well made, the script isn't fantastic, the acting isn't award worthy or even believable most of the time, but it's just such a fun flick, there's something kinda sweet and innocent about it.

A good old slab of 80s cheese nostalgia, noiiice!

exactly my point. The whole film although not great is entertaining.

Okay, I remember seeing the trailer for ROTLD 2 on TV back in the day, as well as Friday the 13th part 8. Never saw it in the theaters though.

General T-Bag, question for you: Where did you get the Asia Argento pic from Land of the Dead from? It looks like a reduced wallpaper background. Thanks in advance! :D

LOL... See the thing is ROTLD wasmeant to be cheesy and somewhat hokey. LOTD was meant to be a serious film. For the most part it is, until Big Daddy shows up then it is all down hill from there.

P.s. # 1000 ahahahahahahahahaaaa  :moon: :p :D

ROTLD is not in the Romero series. So it does not have to follow their rules. Also Dan O Bannon said he didn't want to rip off Romero. Why should they follow the rules? Its their movie. It like how their are many different types of vampires or werewolves.
