I have started to watch this new series on BBC America called survivors. I find it really entertaining in a The Stand sort of way. If you get a chance check this little show out.

Sorry I almost forgot...

Its about a pandemic that kills 99% of the worlds population, and then the people who are immune to the plague are thrown together in a survival story. No need for special effects and it takes place in the UK or else there would probably be more firearms involved.

Yeah, I think this was mentioned on here by some of the Brits last year. It actually spurred me to look it up online and get some baseline info about it.

I really have to figure out the best way to go about catching it from the beginning...Anyone have an opinion as to whether it'd be worth getting a copy on DVD (assuming my region version is available)?

You should try to track down the original series from the 70's

Edit: A box set containing all three seasons of the original series can be had for £20 from amazon UK (assuming your DVD player can play R2 DVD's)

RE The new series - Just watched the final episode of the second series... Generally the series has been pretty mediocre with excessive levels of daftness and huge unecessary coincidences...

Shame!

watched the first series, for the most part, and it was pretty bland using a full cast of actors who mostly do bit parts in stuff like dr. who. if memory serves it was on at the same time as dead set which was way more entertaining.

Yeah, the original 70s series starred Ian McCulloch who you all know from Zombie (Zombie Flesh Eaters), Zombie Holocaust (Dr Butcher M.D.) and Contamination.

indeed. the first series of the original version is some of the best post apoc stuff ever. the second & third were good but not nearly so as the first.

i, ahem, acquired the 70's version of survivors like 3 years ago through the miracle of the intrawebz.

there is a boxset of all 3 seasons of the original show that will be released in north america on 27 apr of this year.

First season is definitely the best, the others suffered because Terry Nation left IMO. The loss of the original location also didn't help, they were nicely set up in that big house. That said, I love the whole series.

As for folk "acquiring" things, I do it all the time, I do try to support franchises I like, but sometimes, cash and location can hinder this. Bottom line, if I DL something and I like it, I will buy it eventually if possible. :)

Good news on the US DVD release, the series is a bit dated, but absolutely essential for any self respecting PA fan IMO (as is the original BBC "Triffids" series with Bill Duntine).
