8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile. The death toll is at 147 and rising. California, Alaska, and Hawaii are under tsunami warnings. A girl I went to school with now lives in Hawaii and made a Facebook post saying alarms were going off and everyone was "evacuating" (as much as they can evacuate) by going up the mountains. Pretty scary shit.

Wow, 8.8? That's incredibly strong. 147 has got to be just the beginning.

And now they're saying that Hawaii might get hit with some of the waves.:(

Three earthquakes today. First one was in Japan. Second in Chile. Then there was one in Argentina.

It makes you wonder if one earthquake produces a ripple effect to create another.

Probably. If one edge of the plate "quivers" or whatever, you'd think that the rest of the plate experiences some movement, too. The opposite end could get some rubbage happening against its neighbor as a result, causing a quake there, too. Maybe. I'm sure there's a guru around here somewhere that could clear that up.

Some of Japan is flooded from waves created by the Chilean quake.

Living on a remote tropical island has really lost it's luster over the last couple of years. The photos/videos from the Christmas tsunami a few years ago really put it over the top.

No doubt Gordon Brown will be promising billions that we dont have to rebuild that place as well, and I know that sounds awful but the state Britain is in at the moment we seriously need to start thinking about charity at home rather than giving all our money to other countries :( we still give India a fortune in foreign aid even though they have a space program & nuclear arms there!

All jokes aside, hopefully we can see that death toll number slowing down soon :(
