In another thread I have raved about this HBO original series, but lately I find myself extremely addicted to this show.
I recently grabbed the complete box set and have watched it from episode 1 until episode 60 and now I am starting over again, already at episode 26 (season 3)
I have said it before and I will say it again, if you haven't check out this show you need too. I personally consider it some of the best TV drama ever produced and HBO's best Tv series to date.

I agree, completely. We had borrowed the boxed set and after finishing it I eventually went out and bought it for the purpose of re-watching it. Probably the best series I've ever watched and it resonates with a sense of reality you don't see in television dramas.
I really can't say enough about it.

ive done the same with 30 rock over the weekend, honestly all my teachers and proffesors at uni raved about the wire, but for me its like the sopranos, the daunting amount of back seasons to watch puts me off getting into it.

The cool thing is, each season may build upon another, but they are self-contained, quality stories at the end of their respective seasons. Much like I love the 1st season of Heroes for being a self-contained story that is great from beginning to end, one can also watch the 1st season of the Wire and, upon completion, feel sated.

It the "daunting" amount of back seasons bothers some, then you should just check out series 1.
Far and away, the best tele that's been on for decades.
...and I don't say such things lightly.

I made myself watch about 4-5 episodes, and found it hard to understand the dialog and times, and really just couldn't get into it I'm afraid... I really did try...

Aye, the Baltimore black accent is very difficult to get used to, but you do get used to it.

Yeah, common problem with the show, which is why I advocate people watch it with subtitles on.
