Hey,
Was just watching a show on Discovery detailing accounts of several people dead for various intervals that were revived quite some time later due to the way the freezing temperatures they'd been exposed to had prevented brain death.

This got me thinking about near death experiences and zombie reanimation. If the cause of the Zombie Apocalypse is one that causes anyone who dies to come back as a zombie, how would it play out if someone was still viable for resuscitation and medical personnel were currently working to bring them back to life?

Would it be a race between resuscitation and reanimation, or would reanimation "overwrite" their potential for resuscitation. Also, in the event an individual "died" due to sudden immersion in near-freezing water, what kind of interval would there be between their "death" and reanimation?

I mean, if the body is in a sort of near-zero activity shutdown mode, yet still capable of being revived with no ill effects should timely and appropriate medical intervention occur, at what point do they go from "sorta dead" to "dead enough" for reanimation?

Finally, and this one is purely speculative. Individuals who survive such experiences often report some form of Out-of-Body/Religious/Epiphany-type experience. How do you think such an experience might be altered if the Zombie Phenomena began DURING their Near Death Experience?

Just thought it was an interesting idea and was interested in some other perspectives on this. Please weigh in :)

All hope for resuscitation must be gone prior to reanimation. This could take much longer if the body is submerged in cold temperatures as you state because clinical death would be delayed. The body must be completely DEAD and beyond recovery, for reanimation to occur. Near death experiences report the spirit leaving the body, which, if you are so inclined to believe, would still happen just prior to permanent and irrevocable death. The walking corpse is nothing but a physical husk of the person it once was, its soul since departed, and only vestiges of its memory remain, like burn-in on a degraded television screen. The zombie phenomena would not occur during a near death experience because the zombie phenomena occurs postmortem.
