Nobody here will probably care about this since it has nothing to do with stockpiling firearms, but what the hey...

Featuring all-new digitally restored audio, this is the most comprehensive music score ever released in any format for George A. Romero's modern horror classic. Available on May 4, 2010.

Interesting, so this is to Night what the Dawn of the Dead Incidental Music album was to Dawn, right? By that, I mean someone spent months/years trawling through DeWolfe archives listening to every track from the era to find the ones used in the film? That's pretty cool.

The Night soundtrack is, for some reason, not as iconic as Dawn's, for me, but it would still be an awesome thing to have.

Close, but not quite. This NIGHT CD features all of the library music used in the film except for one partial cue that has never been found. The DAWN CD features about 50% of the library music used in that film.

Secondly, there were no archives to trawl through because Capitol Hi-Q no longer exists. It took about 2-1/2 years to research which cues were used in the film, locate the rights holders, find suitable LPs and tape reels containing the cues and restore all the audio. There was no single music company that was able to supply CD-quality masters (don't I wish!)

That's Amazon not providing a discounted price. You'll be able to order it cheaper at www.LivingDeadDocumentary.com (www.LivingDeadDocumentary.com). ;)

Ah, music to clean gunz to!
This much is true considering that there is actually a "gun finding" cue in the film.

Dammit, why didn't I think to market it that way?!

Awesome, Jim! This one is going on my must have list - Honestly, I will brown bag my lunch & eat peanut butter smeared on a playing card for however long it takes to save up the cash to get this - even though it has little to do with firearms. In fact I would gladly sell one of my weapons to purchase this! Thanks brother dubious!

May 4th and you're saying the price will be cheaper than the Amazon at www.LivingDeadDocumentary.com? Sounds good to me.

Any chance we can get an idea on how long it took to pull this all together? Certainly seems like a labor of love.

It will be a cheaper price on the Autopsy of the Dead site, but it has been listed for $23.99 on Amazon from time to time (which falls under the free shipping minimum, though). I wish they could pick one price and stick with it.

2½ to 3 years in the making.

If all goes well with this CD, there will be future releases of Romero library music goodness. ;)

Jim reeled me off a few samples not long after finishing Autopsy, and I gotta say the tracks that I heard were nice and crisp.
Restoration is what it's all about. I'm sick of all the crappy, noisy, hissy audio circulating on the Net. No pops, clicks or crackle allowed here.

This NIGHT CD features all of the library music used in the film except for one partial cue that has never been found.

Thank you for releasing this soundtrack, I cannot wait to get it. May I ask which cue was not located? Also, will the Karl Hardman electronic tracks be featured as they were originally recorded , or sampled from the film like the Varese LP was, or appear at all?

EDIT: Just saw the track listing on the Amazon link, I'm guessing the non-coded tracks are the non-library stuff.

Hey, jscott:

Thanks for your interest in the project. All of the tracks on this CD are stock Capitol Hi-Q except for "The Music Box," which is a new recording of the music box owned by Kyra Schon. The only cue that we could not name or locate is the brief passage heard as the cemetery ghoul approaches Barbara. It's not on the cue sheet, doesn't appear on the Varese Sarabande LP and none of the library music experts that I worked with could name it.

The reason some of the track names do not have code numbers is because the legal owners renamed and repackaged those particular cues for use in a new production music library, and it’s necessary that we use the legal names on this type of compilation.

Karl Hardman and Marilyn Eastman always claimed to have radically processed the music that was used in the film. While that may be true, apparently George Romero chose to use the stock music over the processed cues they provided. Except for three stingers processed through a long tape delay (when the cemetery ghoul attacks Barbara, when Barbra finds the corpse at the top of the stairs and the final shot of the bonfire), all the music heard in the film is stock This includes the signature opening and closing titles, and the posse music - all stock cues.

The few bits of synthesizer music produced at Hardman Associates, as well as all of the sound effects seem to be lost and it's doubtful that the master tapes will ever be found. For this reason, I chose to leave this material off this CD release since I dislike pulling audio from the actual film.

The CD is now available for pre-order through the Autopsy of the Dead (http://autopsyofthedead.com/news.html) web site -- just click on the cover art and you'll be taken directly to the order page. The release date has once again been pushed back a few weeks so as to not have to rush the replication process.

It's coming to get you, Barbara! The CD is in the final stages of manufacturing and will be shipping in the next day or so. Amazon orders will take a few days extra since our shipment has to reach their warehouse first.

Thanks A.D., and to all that pre-ordered and have be waiting so patiently for this release. I can't stress enough how amazing and understanding everyone has been. I'm surprised nobody has commented on this yet. I received my copy a few days ago, and the entire product is masterfully done, from the packaging, to the details, to the music itself, both in terms of the preservation of sound quality, and the pacing.

I've seen the movie soooooo many times that I could visualize each scene, as it's respective score or cue played.

I've been waiting for something like this for quite some time, because I've always felt that the music to Night Of The Living Dead played a big role in the atmosphere of the movie. The themes are so moody and nightmarish, and add that quality to the black and white scenes, set in isolation.

It really is worth the purchase, it's immediately evident that a lot of time and effort has been put into this. Everything is there except for one brief cue (when Barbara approaches Hinzman in the cemetery), as Dubious has explained, it couldn't be located.
