Finally saw the new Doctor Who yesterday, with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan (as Amy Pond ... Q-T, Q-T ) and will have to wait and see.

After a fairly loyal viewing since the 60's ( I took a break when Peter Davison stepped down and didn't get back into it until Paul McGann did his Blink and you miss it turn ) I've enjoyed all of the new shows.
Now Matt has stepped into the shoes vacated by David Tennant and into a premiere episode which almost qualifies as a reboot. As the Earth is threatened once again( as a character in Buffy The Vampire Slayer would say; 'I'm starting to wonder what the plural of Apocalypse is. ' )our newly regenerated Time Lord literally crashes into the life of our plucky young heroine, Amy/Amelia Pond ( several times in her history in fact. )
She soon enough becomes the very attractive Karen Gillan( helped alot by the rather sexy police woman costume she shows up wearing )who we know is to be the Doctors' next companion.
I didn't quite expect the rather rushed feel of this episode, but both principals engage at once so that's not as bad as it could have been. Folks have remarked on how sexy Ms. Gillan is (as if that's a bad thing )or her youth, but she has the enthusiasm to make it work in her favor. I did have a thing for Rowena( Lady Time Lord/Lalla Ward ) way back when(she had this sorta school girl outfit ... nevermind ) so the current companion works just fine.
Will the new gang, both before and behind the camera, make it work?
I can't quite tell from this one episode, but am willing to give it a go.

wait till you see the ww2 episode. I cant be arsed to repeat my nerdraging, but it was written by a fanboy, full of asinine plotholes and the great performances from the actors couldnt compete against another davis' style "last of its kind and we just happened to find it" cop-out, i still have hope for the season but bloody hell that was easily the worst dr who episode id seen in quite a while.

I agree, quite agree, hells. It all exists to further this impromptu cosmic hiccup surrounding our Ms. Pond ( who still can't decide who she's channeling. Is she another Rose, or Donna? Oy, oy, oy. )
Another flippin meta crisis in the works?

Three episodes in, it hasn't grabbed me yet as did Eccleston or Tennants entry into the franchise. Matt's still working out his game I think.

For the fourth episode of Who, all I can say is -

Weeping Angels rule as a new nasty, the beginnings of this two parter quite freaky. ("Watch out for Shadows, Michael. They move when you're not looking. " Sinclair, Babylon 5 )
Amy is still very cute, though there's still this effort on the part of the writers to push her usefulness. Especially with the return of River Song( Alex Kingston )The Doctors wife? since we last left her in the Library Episode.
If the WW2 show was pure fanboy, this one carried over alot of The Library as well, with the Angel speaking to The Doctor with the voice of the dead Christian Soldier ( so, that's what that song means. )
Still abit of a struggle to settle both Matt and Karen in the franchise, but here's hoping that Pt 2 ends any lingering doubts.
