Can't wait to see what they do with this :)

The original was over the top but sassy and excellent!

it's almost a sin to remake an arnold film in my book. not too sure about this. and jesus christ, when the hell will they stop remaking so many films...even the remake well ought to run dry at some point, i think...but not anytime soon, apparently.:(

And when their done with the remake train they are always "reboots".

So it looks like we're just fucked.

But yeah, the same stories just keep getting told over and over. it's gotten to the point where I'll sit and watch a movie with the missus and i can predict atleast half of what's going to happen in the movie.

enjoyable movie viewing experience this does not make, so I hardly even watch them anymore.

Rachel Ticotin and Michael Ironside were a good chunk of why I like the original so much.

To this day I still don't know how they did the secretary's nail colour trick. ie: Where she touched the end of her nails with a gizmo and they changed colour. Today it would be SGI, but back then?

I think the only thing that annoyed me with the original was the over the top bulgy eyeballs :)

If they're doing this remake, just who in the hell are they going to get to play the old woman who shouts, "Phhhuuuckk you asshole!" at Arnold, Betty White?

And are they still going to have the Johny Cab? I just love the part where Arnold calls the robot a dickhead after blowing off the fair and then it freaks out and tries to run him over.

painted nails was awesome....it's a secondary colour correction technique, which I don't think would have been easily available back in the early 90s when the film was made! But it is Hollywood, so...

I could use a remake on this one.

Also, though there are some great parts to Total Recall, for an 80s action flick based on a great idea by P.K. Dick that I always thought Dick executed and ended in a pretty middling way, the film suffered a bit through the middle, I thought.

Michael Ironside was/is great, though.

LOL
I can see shoot's point though, the original had something missing - but it was an awesomely enjoyable film to grow up watching.

I remember seeing it on pirate video, rented from my old video shop when it was at the cinema....1990, 1989? don't remember...I do remember my mum and dad giving their usual "let's hate everything that's not something we already like" mode of "well that was a fucking load of shit wasn't it"

Come to think of it, why were they swearing like that in front of me when I was 9?? and...letting me watch the film in the first place...lol

Yeh, I don't really know what it was about it either. Just something left me with an "eh", at the end.

Maybe I just expected more from the most expensive movie in the world (at the time).

The bulgy eyes thing was just stupid too.

But Ironside WAS cool. But, he even made 'V' cool, so that wasn't hard for him.

I'll be honest, certain things about the original seemed flat and just plain boring or annoying.

That said, I liked what they did with PKD premise, loved the beginning of the film and the action. And, of course, Michael Ironsides kicks ass all sorts of ass. I just didn't like the way they handled the mutants and the political aspects seemed very one-dimensional and boring.

There's some classic cheese in that movie, though.

EDIT: Wow, I need to read further back on these threads before replying. I only barely expanded on previous stuff from earlier posts I made.

Don't know about 6th Day, but Total Recall was based on a short story by Phillip K Dick - "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale"

If'n you hadn't known already, Dick wrote "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", which was turned into Blade Runner...

Bryan Cranston (http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/bryan-cranston-cast-as-the-villain-in-len-wisemans-total-recall-remake) cast as the film's villain. As a fan of Breaking Bad, having Cranston on board just made my interest increase ten fold.

Cranston will play Vilos Cohaagen, "the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai." Ronny Cox played Cohaagen in the version from 1990.

If you haven't seen Breaking Bad(shame on you), you would probably remember Cranston from Malcolm in the Middle. But seriously....see Breaking Bad. One of the best shows on television. And that's largely because of his awesome work.

Most definitely. Not only is he up to it, but he's probably the best man for the job. As I mentioned before - check out Breaking Bad and you'll see why. He may not look evil at a first glance, but this guy has got some serious evil acting chops.

not sure, it's a great story, maybe without all the 80's cheese it could be pretty decent.

a bit off-topic, but to get the number of credit hours i needed for gi bill benefits for the semester, i took a fuck-off "philosophy and film" class. the class was packed with stoners and slackers, everyone always smelled of heavy weed & cigarette smoke. all these kids wasting their parents money on worthless degrees, getting high as fuck and watching movies as a form of higher education...anywho, one of the films we watched was total recall and it was such a odd thing to be sitting in class and watching some gal grope the governator and he's talking about feeding blonde women to his dick.

EDIT: and oh fuckin snap! if walter white (bryan cranston) is cast as the villain, count me the hell in!

Who says they're losing it? If anything, the director's previous films point out that he'll most likely keep it and run with it.

Dude, this was a stellar cast being lined up!!

Bill Nighy - fantastic actor. Colin Farrell - say what you like about him but he is an awesome actor and very skilled - I refer you to Tigerland and In Bruges as excellent examples!

Beckinsale is hot, and so is Biel - I don't particularly rate them as actors but they aren't exactly out of place in this cast so far!

On a side note, let's all not forget that this isn't a "remake" of the original movie but a re-adaptation of the original short story - I'm hoping that the new version is a reimagining of the novella - rather than a straight up remake of the old Arnie movie.

i'm hoping that this one will feature Douglas QUAIL and he'll be an accountant - can't wait!!!

Yeah, they've already confirmed that Mars isn't involved in the story. Doesn't make a difference, imo. The mars thing would probably come off just as cheesy as Verhoeven's film, anyway. They say this one is sticking closer to We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, so that's a good start.

Even if the film is decent people are going to hate it anyway. The guy already "ruined" Die Hard 4 for a lot of people, so I expect to hear the same complaints with this one.

Plot summary - http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Read-Official-Plot-Synopsis-Total-Recall-Remake-28874.html

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Interesting to finally see a snifter of footage, but agree on this trailer-for-a-trailer thing. It worked for Prometheus, which is something a lot of people are very excited about - not just another movie among many - and it has always been shrouded in secrecy, so it plays into that whole vibe. A new version of Total Recall, however, is not befitting of trailers-for-a-trailer.

Agreed. I enjoyed the trailer but kept thinking, "Where's Cranston, where's Cranston?!?". Instead we got more of Sulu in a silly hair color....

Trailer looked good to me. I don't expect it to be a great film, but I think I may well enjoy it more than the original, and I don't even like Colin Farrell, who comes across as being right between Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on the asshole scale, but not as talented as either. That said, the story is based on a film loosely based on a premise from PKD, so I'm not that upset that it's a re-do. I also think the original film version was only okay, and very hokey. Plus, the chicks will be hotter in this film (for my tastes, anyway).

Most importantly:-

THREE BOOBS IS BACK. One of the scenes shown involved a space-hooker offering her services to Quaid (Colin Farrell of course), and opening her shirt to reveal three large boobies. The audience applauded.

As well as that bombshell, we also saw a variety of extended fight sequences between Quaid and his (sort of) wife, played by Kate Beckinsale. There was a lot of jumping around and blocking punches and squeezing people between thighs and into walls, and smashing through windows and firing guns. In fact, it's clear that the role of the wife ("Lori") is perhaps greater than we might have thought - the fight sequences shown clearly stretched across a large part of the film, and not just one scene. Lori also exhibited a very different accent after it's revealed that she's against Quaid - perhaps almost Russian.

Another scene showed Mr Farrell watching a video message from himself, just like in the original Arnie version. We didn't get to see if he had to shove something up his nose though.

There were plenty of flying cars too, reminding me of The 5th Element, and unfortunately also taking me back to that sequence in Star Wars Episode II. Bryan Cranston popped up a few times, being awesome as usual, but looking quite different from normal too, and the role of robots was also hinted at. It seems that some robots (who look very much like the "I, Robot" variety) may be part of a bigger political conspiracy of some kind. Not quite sure what that's all about.

Having had zero expectations, and from the start having been sceptical about any project remaking one of my favourite science fiction action movies, I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw - I think this could be in the Minority Report league of "serious" sci-fi action.

Probably too much to hope that the fight scenes involve a spanking at any point.

Looks pretty sweet - got me more excited than the last trailer did, anyway. I'll check it out sometime ... not sure about at the cinema though...

Didn't Arnie get a "divorce" in the first one?

Looks like they're keeping Beckinsale around for longer.

That's 1 star already lost. Another 1 star lost for hiring Farrell for a job.

Meh...

I keep thinking that when John Carpenter remade The Thing, he went back to the John Campbell story 'Who Goes There? ' instead. Phillip K Dick's short story 'We can Remember It for you Wholesale. ' would make for a very different kinda of film, certainly.

I bump because I'm getting ready/smoking out to go see this tonight at the discount theater. I'm going to give this a chance, stay open minded... open minded... stay...
I'm still irked over what Colin did to Fright Night, but we'll see.
Hopefully no one will be there with us. I want to enjoy my strawberry newtons in peace, please.

Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...
First off, it sounded like one of their speakers had blown. When superloud music would play, it'd get all crackly. I got over that.
I will say it is pretty nonstop action packed. I actually did like the movie, it just really seemed alot more straightforward than the original, no camp.
It was definitely worthy of the $2.50 I payed for it.
So yeah, I'd recommend it. My kid said she fell asleep at times, and that it was crap.
Go figure...
