I recently as a test posted a thread in the fic section
asking for advice for a story idea
i posted a similar post in another forum at another web site
i got no response here
but many at the other site

the fic fourum used to be the best
now it is unused and limp

has HOPTD turned into a place where people play asteriods and talk
about things like my space only

this place used to be so much more

the fic section is dead
the fic forum is dead

this makes me so sad
HOPTD is not at all what it used to be

what ever happened here?

Bongholio i offer you an apology
you were right and i was wrong

it is a sad state of affairs here

what happened to HPOTD?

what else is going to be gone next?

so many people are gone
and those who are here...
who else is gonna leave and make this place less than it has become?

this isnt a site for fan fic about the living dead anymore
it is not a site for writers to share ideas

it is just like any other generic chat room/forum
it is losing everything that made it special
i dont know what it is anymore

what happened to HPOTD?
it used to be a "living dead' site
now it is just dead

there are still many great people here
but to say we havent lost some great people
is blind ignorance

i am so sad...

yes, yes it has.

i like the new forums, especially the overall structure of it. and ive used this one more than the old ones purely because of that, that said i was the one that posted the link to p.m.a.c when zombies attack on there and introduced those who hadnt heard of it to...er.. it.
anyhoo people go people leave with time, on a forum im a moderator of i used to be the latest mod out of about 16 now its just me two others and the two admins and im the only one that visits as much as the admins now.

people leave after all ,isnt a forum just a place where you go to speak your words and share your views.......mostly about porno and bittorrents its true but thats beside the point, i mean you can still submit stories to the same place and theres a thing on there were we send the writers our views about the story we just read so theres really no point for them here other than to toot the writers horn some more. (que inuendous comment about a wang from minion zombie:D)

oh and asteroids rules, but i prefer the minigolf me-self:p

I try Kortick. The problem is that for every 1 insightful post in the fiction section you have morons who will post something inane to hijack the thread, much like this one will soon be hijacked. I have zero creativity due to work and other real-world obligations and I come here to awaken my muse. Since the move my muse has remained asleep. Does that have to do with anything that you mentioned, I think it might.

You have a silent minority who are still interested in writing and reading and a rather vocal majority who are more interested in making this forum into a popularity contest or a newsgroup. I believe that the addition of the ranking system plays a large roll in this. I know of at least two people, both of whom were at one time prolific authors, who no longer visit here to contribute due to the way in which our ranking system is abused, as well as the presence of certain disruptive individuals who continuously hijack threads (as this one soon will be) without recourse.

Kortick, you have to remember one thing about the majority of people on the internet: They care only about their own persona, not you.

I know people still come here to read. I just got some very detailed responses to one of my fics the other day. I know people still come here to write. With the addition of sci-fi to the site be on the look-out for some stuff from me, as well as from Rookie AKA Exatreides. I know that kid has some stuff up his sleeve.

It's not that no one cared enough to answer you, Kortick. I didn't feel the need to post something thoughtful and then have some reject post about fingernail clippings or something and hijack the thread (as this one is about to be). Stay around and keep interested in reading and you just might be rewarded. That's why I'm still here! :D

just to be clear

i love this site
and have met some great people here

i dont want this place to fall apart any more than it has
that would be a true loss
in every sense of the word

people dont even visit the homepage anymore
they just come to the forums

and yes it is true
people love to hijack posts and turn them around
for thier own stupid uses

i am a fat head i guess deadman
cuz i really feel sad about how this great site
is falling apart

you guys are great

we all know who the losers are
around here

i just dont think it is right for them
to ruin a great place
that so many other people enjoy and
treat with respect

I have to admit I been posting here for a year and I never once visited the fiction section. I never even glanced at it. I will go and do it today. i know I am ashamed:confused:

There's some REALLY good stuff there.

Well, I could certainly try and play a bit more active role in the fiction section. I know the pieces I've read there were very good. Writing for me is solely based on my inspiration and I have never written a wholly zombie piece of fiction, so don't look for me to write anything anytime soon, but I can try and be more communicative in regards to feed back.

Anyway, I will try Kortick :)

Keep the haikus a' rollin' in :p

im not trying to take the **** here, but are you writing in haikous or something?Dam it, I was gonna say that!

At my count, three times in this thread the idea of a thread being "hijacked" was mentioned. Maybe it is just me, but even in real life, conversations are "hijacked" all the time. You start to talk to your friend about the new movie that just came out, and end up talking about his girlfriend's mom starting a new diet. If anything, I think the format of these new boards lends itself to "hijacking" more so than the other boards.

As to the topic at hand, I did not frequent the fiction section much before the site changed. Whenever I did, I was pleased at how well written, thoughtful and entertaining the fiction that I read was. But to me, to quote kortick, the thing that made this site "special" to me, was the message boards itself, not the fiction section. The ability to interact with others with similiar interests about GAR movies, and other topics, as much or as little as a desired. As Arcades said

Kortick, you have to remember one thing about the majority of people on the internet: They care only about their own persona, not you.I agree with this statement. I dont know if this was intended as a simple statement of fact, or some kind of slam against the "majority", but I would say that this is true not only about the majority of people on the internet, but of a majority of people on the planet. That is just the way it is. I never participated in the fiction forum, I just read some of the fiction stories. It seems as if you are saying that writers go there to ask questions and get ideas for their stories. If that is the case, I will check it out and see if I am able to contribute in some fashion. If not, maybe I will just try to hijack some threads.....

i've never been to the fiction section except for once or twice. what i read was actually pretty lame. i would be interested in reading some well-written zombie stories, but i haven't come across any here yet (except for the one with the guy trapped in the 7-11 fridge). any recommendation on any that don't read like they are written by 8th graders?

edit - in all fairness to the writers on here, i've only checked out maybe three or four of the stories...so no offense intended.

my favourites were "convinience store of the dead" and i think i saw a rip off it as a flick on i film , and one that ends with a kid pushing two survivors into a basement to feed his zombiefied mother. kinda reminded me of the screamers from the film....er.....screamers,lol.

:D
Im still a dead fan!but its just a small part of my wide spectrum of interests :D im still here, but maybe i need to have a refresher session on the old living dead films to inspire some new posts

exactly the same for me, im a huge horror fan, zombies in prticular zombie films, games, comics and books ect. but im a film director and a gamer first (practicing for the world cyber games!) and i only write when im really inspired, though since i saw david attenboroughs show about global waming ive been writing more about the old 50s-80s post apocalyptic stuff cus i think its been avoided as a cliche for long enough to make a comeback.

ive also turned down the thermostat and used the bus more but thats beside the point:D

Well one thing is for sure, it doesn't seem the same. Alot of people didn't join the conversion. We lost Bongholio out of it, or number one chatroom guru. The fell of this boards, reminds me of the twenieth century. The other boards made me think about how the internet would do if it was created in the thirties. :D

After the whole "secret forum" flap most of the old members left. Might see a few return if a new Romero zombie movie emerges. You never know.

I've closed this thread because it's over a year-and-a-half old and doesn't represent the HPOTD we now have, therefore it's ultimately pointless to resurrect.
