Interesting, as GAR also provides a timeline for the first four dead films which he indicates are all part of the same storyline: GAR is quoted as stating that DOTD is supposed to be a few weeks after NOLD, DAY a few months after DAWN and LAND three years after DAWN. Since I know that the issue of the timeline and whether or not these films were meant to be connected or be viewed as stand-alone units, and that these issues have been points of contention here and has spawned many disputes, I apologize to all of you in advance for potentially fueling the fire.

I think you just put the fire out by dousing it with gasoline!!

I read this over the weekend and the first thing I thought was: "Yojimbo just ruined Philly_Swat's holiday weekend." :)
All that said, doesn't take away from the fun debates I've witnessed, though it certainly puts them in perspective.

The most disturbing thing to me is,
The way that Romero's demeanor in the interview suggests he genuinely believes that his Dead franchise is doing great and is healthier than ever.
That, and the way he seemed to relish how "horror fans" are collectors. His wording came close to bluntly relishing what suckers the fans are in his opinion.
"I haven't shot any new footage, but they buy the new release anyways" indeed.
This interview dropped Romero into the same Just-out-for-the-$$ category pioneered by Uwe Boll and Rob Zombie. IMHO, at least.

That's a harsh conclusion there, Wraith.
Seems to me that we have a Director who's worked outside the Hollywood System for most of his career. He never made much money from Night because of the copyright issues. And when he tried to work with the major studios, it was a major headache.
Now he's in his 70's, he's got the cult following, and he seems to at least have a little fun making the new Dead series. Let him make a couple bucks, too, and be comfortable in his old age, I say...

Hey, if GAR wants to say "Land" is part of the original trilogy, he can... but I certainly won't accept it. To me the original trilogy is a sacred trilogy of films that stand together to give the complete story of the beginning to end of the world under the zombie apocalypse.
"Land" and his nouveau-trilogy is a bit like "Alien: Resurrection" and all the awful "AVP" films. It's an abomination of the original and sacred trilogy.
"Land" isn't fit to be after-birth from the birthing of the original epic trilogy. "Diary" was an improvement, but not much... so no, as far as I'm concerned "Land" is not and will not ever be a "part" of the original sacred trilogy. I think it works well as a sequel to "Survival" though so I'm more than happy to call "Diary"/"Survival"/"Land" as a trilogy unto itself -- I think they work well as parts of a whole.
Gas on the fire? Let's make it kerosene.

That's fine and he's entitled to do whatever he wants but in turn we should be ale to be honest about what we think of his recent work...
