So im cleaning out the magazine rack next to my desk and the latest magazine was an issue of rolling stone with a juno review in it, so thats what? 2 or 3 years old?
Back 5 or 10 years ago i had like 5 or 6 magazines a week. empire, total film, metal hammer (dont judge me) and a bunch of random ones like fangoria or sci-fi ones and the like but its now been years since i last bought one.

I still buy books over ebooks, granted i know its not the best way to get my books from an environmental standpoint, but theres just something about holding a big bound tome with that new book smell.
-magazines on the other hand i find hard to rationalize buying when i can get so much information on the internet for free y'know?

Thats the trouble really, even if i could get a pdf of a magazine off itunes i dont think i would, again mostly because of getting stuff for free. I think i heard about something in one of my last media classes about how playboy was falling back to only a few issues a year and attempting a digital copy and i can only assume it didnt really take off.

Its a shame but magazines are almost dead for me, what about you guys?

I may buy a magazine if I'm traveling, like to have light reading material and a break from whatever books I've brought while on a flight etc.

I used to subscribe to Transworld (worst. skateboarding. magazine. ever.) and OtakuUSA. Those expired, and I'm too lazy/cheap to re-subscribe. Thrasher's the best, so maybe I'll get that one... someday.

i still have my Maxim subscription. Hot chicks, funny content and I got it for dirt cheap. Something like 20 bucks for 3 years.

This!:elol:

I also have a subscription to Entertainment Weekly because some school kid came to my door selling shit and I felt sorry for him. 20 bucks for 24 issues isn't too bad...

I'll occasionally pick up an Empire. But usually only when I travel. Otherwise, I subscribe to a few history magazines and I'll read a Time Magazine now and again.

And that's really the reason i suscribe. It's gotten to the point for the print media where they can't even give their wares away when you your order totals more than 75 bucks at bed bath and beyond (your wife will probably know what that is )

I had an EGM subscription until they went under. They took the remainder of it and switched me to Maxim, and I've been too lazy to cancel it. Plus getting a big pair of titties in the mail every month is nice.

I still subscribe to Guitar World and have been for like the past 15 years or so (used to subscribe to Guitar for the Practicing Musician prior to them becoming just "Guitar Magazine" - when they switched, so did I), and I still get my Playboy subscription (my mother in law first subscribed for me on my 25th b-day and I still get it to this day).

I'm wondering how much longer I'll keep either of them though. They've basically become bathroom reading material and that's about it. I'm a bit past needing Guitar World for the lessons and transcriptions, but the interviews with some of the musicians is nice to read. Playboy - well, to be honest, I really do read it for the articles nowdays. If I want naked chicks, I'll download porn. :D

I can't remember the last time I paid for a magazine.

My roommate gets a stack of them every month; mostly Wimmins' Health, Bust, Rolling Stone, that kind of thing. My cousin sends me her copies of Mother Jones & Nation when she's done with them.

Anything I'd pick up on the newsstand (ha-like there's such a thing as newsstands anymore) I can read the same articles online.

Considering the era we live in that's quite suprising.

I get Total Film every month on a subscription ... been getting it for 4 or 5 years now.

That's really the only magazine I get. I used to get Kerrang! back in my uni days (mainly in the first year), but then I realised it was a shit magazine and stopped buying it. :p

Yeah, Viz is an adult humour comic from the UK. Well, I say ADULT humour, but it's adult humour of the most juvenile kind - fart and dick jokes feature heavily along with some quite scathing satire of the tabloid press. It's done in the style of British kids' "funny books" such as The Beano and The Dandy, but with characters and scenarios that are either bizarre (The Crap Sharks, The Drunken Bakers), hilariously peurile (The Fat Slags, Sid the Sexist, The Bottom Inspectors), or morally reprehensible (Biffa Bacon and his family; Roger Mellie the Bloke off the Telly). There are also funny letters columns, comically banal "advice" pages, spoof tabloid style articles and Roger's Profanisaurus which attempts to compile every swear word, dirty saying, childish euphemism and sexual/anatomical term known in the English language - mostly absurd ones they make up themselves, but sometime find their way into real usage through being used in Viz. Like "wizard's sleeve". :D
