As I mentioned in another thread Hollywood video near me (along with all the others in the world) is going out of business and I have been snapping up zombie movies left and right even bad ones...

This was indeed a bad one.

Bad acting, horrible costumes, and an atrocious script.

I expected the worst as all of my friends here at HPoTD have warned me about the film and I had actually decided I would never watch it.

Oddly though, this made it more enjoyable for me.

Yes it was a pile of crap but expecting it to suck made it less offensive and I was not outraged as I had time to come to grips with it before ever viewing it.

These zombies not only run...

(Spoilers)

But they LEAP and crawl on the ceiling!!!

LOL...

Anyway it was mindless zombie action and was actually good for a laugh if nothing else. Worth the 3 bucks I spent on it IMO, but not a cent more.

What was Ving thinking???

My thoughts exactly. It's so bad that it's oddly fun to watch. I've seen it several times now and it makes for a great MST3K-styled evening with some friends and some drinks.

Honestly....I would rather watch Day08 over Dawn04. I can enjoy the Dawn remake for what it is, but the horrible Day remake is just too much fun. It's like an awful car accident that you're driving by. You don't want to see that guy's head smashed into the asphalt, but you just have to look.

Batman & Robin springs to mind. Day08 is the Batman & Robin of "mainstream" zombie films....

I promised myself I wouldn't go see Batman & Robin in the theaters, but got dragged anyway and still fell asleep during the film. I think I'll pass on seeing Day '08 anytime soon :)

Come on, dude. You know you dig Arnold's constant use of one-liners, the bat-credit card, and all the bat nipples flying around.

"WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THEY JUST MAKE THE MOVIE IN ROMERO'S ORIGINAL SCRIP OF DAY? THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOME GOOD VIEWING!:annoyed:

Totally agree. If it was not called Day of the Dead I think it would be an easier pill for people to swallow, it by itself was just a bad horror/comedy that is unintentionally hysterical.

Why is it nowdays that just about every movie nowdays has to have a stereotypical black gangsta thug? That is what I dislike most about these types of remakes. Other than that Day 08 was an ok movie...as background noise while websurfing or playing an online game.

The one thing that did amuse me was that Project Wildfire is what resulted in the zombie outbreak. Most people probably didn't get what it was in reference to.

If not the NAACP would be up their asses with a microscope dude.

They have to put a black character in no matter how out of place they might seem.

Same thing with the Abercrombie catalog.

Or peppering a brown person to run for several prominent positions such as Bobby Jindal of louisiana and Nicki Haley in S.C.

That shit is so transparent it's not even funny.

I believe they're both of Indian decent but i wanna pull the reps trough the tv and say "I know they are people of color but you do realize they're not black right?"

Firstly, where'd you see the list? I have to google it.

Secondly...Peter was top of the pyramid in Dawn and it's a weird slight & possibly mental gymnastics to view it otherwise.

There's actually quite a few that shouldn't be in there imo, but it's just for fun I guess...

Winston is the shit. He just didn't get enough time. He's the only "normal" guy of the group and he actually has quite a few funny lines that people over look for some reason....

Peter though? He shouldn't be on this list. I'm not sure half of those people should, actually.

The little gay guy from Revenge of the Nerds was the best. He definitely needed more time.

I just am sick of scripts with the single black character doing the whole over the top "I am gonna bus a cap yo ass BEEEOTCH!" bs. I don't know if that is for comic relief or what but man it is getting old. How would you all feel if Romero wrote John as rap gangsta thug?

But seriously, Winston was the Working-Class guy around a bunch of Renegade Scientists. He was there to do a job, dammit.

You hit it on the nose dude they may have to put them in movies but they obviously show they don't have to give them good parts and can stereo type them up the ass if they choose to!:shifty::dead:

BTW: Don't even get me started on their dialog! lol:eek::lol:

He was the only reasonable one and he had some damn funny lines.

"No offense guys, but I gotta get my own lawyer"
"That's a big twinkie..."
"When someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!!!"
"I'm Winston Zeddmore, Your Honor. I've only been with the company for a couple of weeks, but these things are real. Since I joined these men, I've seen shit that'll turn you white."

I could go all night.

Anyway...Peter was no token black guy. I think most people consider him the central character of the flick.

Had a long time to think about this,
In hindsight I can't continue ripping on Dawn '04, even though I detest running zombies.

The thing is, when you look at the ten best zombie movies made since 2004, it's a depressing list indeed.

I had to dig DEEP just to find anything remotely watchable in the last 5-6yrs. To the point that I've switched almost completely from watching movies to reading books to get my Zombie Apocalypse fix.

It's weird when you consider how mainstream zombies have remained in the many creative mediums that the relative number of good zombie movies produced in a given year has actually DECREASED for several years running now.

Even weirder when you consider the relative ease with which a zombie movie can be shot. Good scripts are hard to craft, no argument, but as for the simple SFX, ability to cast complete unknowns in leading roles, and the easy way one can rely on shots of a bunch of extras to pad the film's run-time, the director of a zombie movie has numerous advantages unavailable to directors in other genres. Despite this, terrible zombie movies have become the norm.

Anyone understand/able to explain why this is the case when so many much more difficult genres seem to have no trouble cranking out tons of at worst mediocre films?

A lack of respect for the horror genre and zombie films in particular on the part of filmmakers and audiences. The profusion of zomedies, coupled with the growing ability of any old bum to make a 'film' and when it's utterly wretched call it a zomedy. People trying to ape what has been done, rather than pushing new boundaries (though some cool new stuff has certainly been done) and audiences lapping it up in any case.

I got more, I just don't have the time.

bassman

You also have to consider that there are many different things that people enjoy in their zombie films. Some are more into the zombie carnage, some are into the tension and build up, some are into the human conflict resulting from the zombies, etc, etc.

I think it's probably very difficult to find that all included in one, tight package. There's been no zombie films that have included most or all of those things since Romero's trilogy, imo.

I personally think that a big hurdle is when everyone refers to zombies as the creatures who eat brains. I think the brain eatting reference makes it harder for mainstream to accept zombies as willingly as they did with other creatures. It just sounds too comical.

Yeah, I think we can thank ROTLD for that one. After that film, most of the movie viewing public think zombies only eat brains. :annoyed:

One organ in the whole body? What a waste that would be. But..."It helps the pain go away. The pain of being dead." :dead:

Return is what it is....just don't lump it into the pile with all the other good zombie films.

I loved Romeros response to running zombies in Diary. I've been waiting for another zombie film to lecture someone on being an idiot for thinking that a zombie would only be interested in brains.
