this could be incredibly damn awesome. First the walking dead now the dark tower?!?

and people thought the one hour sci-fi genre was dead after lost ended.

Maybe we will eventually get a series of y the last man since the shitty shia lebouf 90 minute feature is very justly stuck in development hell.

My vote is on Jamey Sheridan (Flagg from "The Stand") to return as Flagg/Walter/etc. in the new series. It would be awesome to see him re-doing the role again as I thought he did excellent with the role.

I seriously doubt they have the $$$ to do it, but seeing Clint Eastwood as Roland's daddy would be beyond awesome.

Hmmm despite how good many of Kings books are, they always seem to make a hash of them when translating to film barring a few exceptions, hopefully they wont with these. The film version of the stand was ok, but Harold looked nothing like the book version & the ending was poorly done!

You know, I could see this. I dig Kiefer Sutherland and could see him kicking some ass as Roland of Gilead. But you have got to throw in at least a few: "WHERE'S THE BOMB!!??" scenes with him.

Let me throw in a vote here for Gary Busey as the Tick-Tock Man in the Wastelands. And I've already said we need Eastwood to play Roland's daddy and Jamey Sheridan to return as Randy Flagg.

What's the issue in making his dad a bit older?

I don't really see that having any huge impact on it. Plus, it's freaking Clint Eastwood.

Because Roland is about 15... So his dad conceived him then when he was about 60... Which suggests this old gun slinger was firing blanks for a long time before he found a live round! It would also place his mother as being 25yrs or so younger than his father, which is unusual!

How are they going to deal with Odetta Holmes and her lack of legs? I suspect - excuse the pun - they'll chop that out, and she'll have legs. It seems to add nothing to the plot really...

Also interested on how they handle the demon scene involving her!

The moment has come for Universal Pictures to fish or cut bait on The Dark Tower, the ultra-ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King 7-novel series that was going to encompass a trilogy of feature films and two limited run TV series. The studio has said, No Thanks. Universal has passed on going forward with the project, dealing a huge blow in the plan for Ron Howard to direct Akiva Goldsman's script, with Brian Grazer, Goldsman and the author producing and Javier Bardem starring as gunslinger Roland Deschain. Now, the filmmakers will have to find a new backer of what might well be the most ambitious movie project since Bob Shaye allowed Peter Jackson to shoot three installments of The Lord of the Rings back to back.

Warner Brothers is close to getting a new draft of the screenplay for the first movie from Akiva Goldsman, and within in the next two weeks the studio will either decide to move forward with the project or drop it completely. But what spices up the news a bit is the fact that there's been a significant change when it comes to casting Roland. Apparently Bardem is no longer in the running for the part, and Howard and producer Brian Grazer have already begun talking about Russell Crowe as a replacement. While no paperwork has been signed, as Warners brass meets about the project they will be considering it with the idea that Crowe will star. The plan is still to make the franchise as a trilogy and two television series.

As of a couple of weeks ago, it was looking like the fate of the feature adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series would be determined at some point this month. And sure enough, the verdict from Warner Bros. is in, and it's not good. Word is, the studio has decided to pass on the project.

It will begin shooting next year and likely premiere in 2018, around the time next February’s “Dark Tower” movie first finds its way to cable or streaming.

“Wizard and Glass” is set partially in the post-influenza-apocalypse 1980s alternate universe depicted in King’s 1978 novel “The Stand.” “True Detective” star Matthew McConaughey reprising his “Dark Tower” role for the TV project is described as “a possibility.” McConaughey’s character looms large in “Wizard and Glass,” but that character is also famous for shapeshifting.

I haven't read the novels, only knowing bits and pieces of the basic plot, but it looks....Okay...I guess. I thought it was conceived as more of a horror and spaghetti western hybrid, which this seems to be missing a bit. Two great actors though, so hopefully it'll turn out entertaining....
