You can't make this stuff up (http://www.joblo.com/he-is-the-champion-sacha-baron-cohen-to-play-freddie-mercury).

Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) is currently writting a script that will focus on the formative years of Queen and Sacha Baron Cohen has already closed a deal to play Mercury. It's also being produced by Robert DeNiro...?

I know Cohen has been trying to get away from the toilet humor and try his hand at more serious roles, but this is...fishy. To say the least. He could be great, but if he fucks this up he's going to have millions of fans ready to kick his ass.

I will give him this....with a bit of work, he could certainly pull off the look...

Who knows? Some comedians have become fantastic actors. Hopefully he can pull it off...

I've thought he looks like Mercury for quite a while now and I agree he could probably surprise a lot of people with the role.

Interesting. I never thought about it before, but he totally does resemble Freddie Mercury. I wonder if they'll take the route of re-creating all of the songs, having Sacha take vocal lesson to perform them.

Possibly, but I imagine it would be extremely hard to get him even close to Mercury's range. The article says the project has the rights to Queen's biggest hits, but nothing about Cohen singing them. I imagine he'll be lipping it all.

you know, this is old news. BUT im glad theres some new parts to it. like the film is actually gonna happen. not sayin cohen cant do it, but johnny depp is the same height as freddie. so unless they're going for a larger than life kind of feel........

Cohen is much closer looking to Mercury, particularly with the 'stache.

If it's a serious film this could be a breakthrough role for him.

Yeah, I got a weird feeling that if this film is made it will be his Truman Show/Lost in Translation.

Yeah, I know Mercury's vocals are virtually untouchable, but with a little auto-tune anythings possible! :barf:

Just look at MTV, you can tell auto tune makes anything possible.

some people are just professional actors period/ chameleons. like val kilmer. apparently his doc holliday rendition is the most accurate unless they clone the real guy.

Hmmmm. Maybe this is his chance to show his chops, like Ben Stiller in Permanent Midnight.
He'd need to beef up that lower jaw, though. And no freakin' wayyyyyy would I see it if Depp were there to ruin it.
Still hard to believe. Borat as Freddy?
