Knowing my luck I'd get one of these things and end up being bitten by it and contract some ultra-rare super-malignant form of Ebola or something great like that that makes me cough up my lungs like I was in a Fulci flick.

No, I'm good sticking with dogs, personally. Chances of catching a terrible disease from "Man's best friend" are much less severe (especially with the Michael Scott Race for the Cure for Rabies !) and dogs are just awesome.
