I'm on the locations department. I've worked on location before, but never on anything this size. This is going to be kick ass.

The location department is an extensive department. They organize parking, logistics, electricity for the light crew and plan it all ahead with maps and spreading information to other department heads.

You rent houses, parking spaces, lunch areas depending on your needs. A day on the location department can be very different from the next. A day spent filming in a city is often hectic, trying to keep curious people away and making sure everyone gets the parking they need.

You're the first to arrive on set and the last one to leave. After you've wrapped filming you clean it (or more likely, rent a cleaning company to clean it for you!) and check with the owner for eventual damages to pretty much anything. Furniture, floors, walls.

In simple words, if I were to point out to Pvt. Steele that a certain filming location is going to be difficult to handle due to logistics, availability of water or electricity, he would tell me "Well it's up to you to get it working right!"

An average workday on location can be anything from 12 - 16 hours. Sometimes even more than that. But it's kick ass.
