I know we have a thread somewhere around here about The Wayans Brothers remaking The Munsters into a feature film. Well, because the search feature is screwed I couldn't find it(watch it be listed in the "similar" threads at the bottom of this one:p).

Anyway....the good news is that The Wayans Bros are OUT. Thank God! Now the fearsome funny family is coming back to TV (http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=24380).

the ones behind this latest "Munsters" talk are NBC and "Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller. According to The Ausiello Files not only are they describing this new project as "Modern Family" meets "True Blood" but word has it none other than the great Guillermo del Toro is eyeing a behind-the-scenes role in the series! NBC has ordered a pilot of Fuller's "The Munsters"

Okay.....Pilot episode ordered? Good. Guillermo Del Toro? GREAT. Relating it to True Blood? F*ck off.

As a huge fan of the original that has the entire series and watches it regularly, this is great news for the first day of October. Hopefully they'll have the new series to premiere this time next year.:hyper: It's going to be hard to find someone to fill the shoes of Fred Gwynne(Herman), though....

It'll be hard to replace Fred Gwynne, and damned near impossible to replace Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster). I remember when I was little 'Grandpa' used to feature second-rate horror flicks on TNT or one of those stations on Saturday's when I was a kid. I always sneaked into the bedroom to turn him on and watch him with the volume turned down low so my grandparents wouldn't hear me (as they didn't like me watching that "kind of stuff"). Grandpa was a true class act.

And I would so have tapped Yvonne De Carlo's fine ass from circa 1964 -- especially dressed up like Lily.

Dude, it could have been worse. It could have been related to twighlight! :p

So then we'd have a gay version of the munsters. (Not that there's anything wrong with that)

But what's always bothered me is how procreation between a frankenstein and a Vampress results in a Wolfboy!?!

WTF is that about?

It seems as if someone was letting the milkman tap that.

Better not let herman find out though. Have you ever seen him in one of his rages?

He's like tank from Left 4 DEAd. Ground shaking and everything.

Dude....I think I remember this. Was it TBS? Back when TBS was only an Atlanta station? I don't remember him hosting other movies, but I remember him and Elvira/Vampira/something-ira hosting 8-10 hour marathons of the show around Halloween. I think it was in the late eighties....

But what's always bothered me is how procreation between a frankenstein and a Vampress results in a Wolfboy!?!

Ahem...Frankenstein's monster. :p

But yeah....it is kinda strange that Eddie was the wolfman. But look at Marilyn! Where the hell did that ugly broad come from?!? Grandpa must've used some of his potions.

Yeah that is funny how they felt sorry for her for looking the way she did.

She was the black sheep. I think they even mentioned it in a few episodes.

Just about every episode she's in, actually.

You don't see any other cast members making it onto a playboy cover...

Basiclly it's just the guy saying Kristen Bell would be a perfect Marilyn(I agree). What caught my eye is his description of the first episode:

Fuller plans to fashion his Munsters update as a cross between Modern Family and True Blood. “This version has teeth and isn’t afraid to use them,” he says with a laugh. “For example, the story begins when young Eddie unexpectedly manifests as a werewolf on a scout camping trip and inadvertently eats two of his fellow scouts.”

That made me laugh. Sounds like he's got an idea on how to bring it to modern audiences, but still keep that strange humor to it.

Eh?.........wha?

They tried to resurrect the series in the mid nineties. The girl from Dodgeball played Marilyn is all I really remember about it. But yeah....there's already been bad Munsters. This new series can't go any worse.

Don't know about the choice of projects, but Bryan Fuller is brilliant at heading up offbeat premises.

Nearly a full year later.....they're trying again (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/munsters-pushing-daisies-creator-takes-222231)?

New NBC Entertainment topper Robert Greenblatt is said to like the idea of a remake and has asked Fuller to take another attempt at the project.

Fuller and NBC first made an attempt to revive the 1960s CBS sitcom last year, with the Peacock ultimately passing.

Fuller’s new look is said to be an edgier and slightly darker hourlong take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.

It's a different approach, but i'm open to it. Fingers crossed for the best. I'm just still thrilled the Wayans Brothers are away from the property. Can you imagine that? White Chicks and The Scary Movie films crossed with the beloved Munsters? *shivers*

Eddie Izzard cast as Grandpa and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn in what is now called "1313 Mockingbird Lane"

Ehhhh.....still not sure. Izzard usually irritates me. I can't see him as Grandpa AT ALL, but I'm putting my faith in Bryan Singer at this point....

Not exactly what I would picture for Herman Munster, but O'Connell seems to be a pretty funny guy. He was funny in Piranha and that video making fun of Tom Cruises' insane Scientology rant had me in stitches.

They're currently shooting and some photos are making the rounds.

Is Grandpa now a waiter at the locoal Mockingbird Heights Japanese restaurant?!? WTF is this?..

Marilyn looks okay, but she's not exactly hard to f*ck up...

Rather than a new TV series, they've decided to air the pilot as a Halloween movie special. It will air toward the end of the month.

Trouble with herman though is the original actor had such an iconic cadence to his voice and mannerisms theres just nobody close to that acting today, i think at least. I just rewatched pet semetary and his whole "sam'tahmes... dead is beddah" stuff is chilling just because of the way he sells it.

His role as the judge in My Cousin Vinnie is legendary. "Did you say youts?"

30 second preview for "Mockingbird Lane:

Certainly not the Munsters I know and love, but it doesn't necessarily look all that bad. The joke at the end of the preview gave me a chuckle and felt a bit like the Munsters style of humor. For a one time Halloween movie it could be decent...

Being a huge Munsters fan I checked my expectations at the door and I have to say.....It was pretty good. Singer and those involved did a great job translating The Munsters for a new generation. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a series with this Munster family.

It could never replace the original cast but it's entertaining in it's own way.

They had me at Portia de Rossi as Lily Munster. Her introduction was ... very sexy.

Izzard brought a gleeful chaos to the mix. This could make for an interesting series.

I agree. I just finished watching the pilot again with my daughter and it's actually improved my opinion of it all. It's really a great revamp of the original show. Looking at IMBD, the pilot has over a seven rating, so apparently i'm not alone with that opinion. Hopefully this is picked up for a full season or more. It's quite enjoyable and would be wonderful amongst a sea of crap "reality" shows.
