The Expendables was such a smash hit that Sylvester Stallone is already planning Expendables 2. This time around we’re certain to get a lot more of Bruce Willis than just a cameo, and he seems excited to become a full time member of the group. So excited that Bruce spent the weekend talking up the possible sequel while out promoting his new movie Red.

Interesting to say the least, but I hope they rope in a few more old time action vets. Who did they miss? Segal? :barf: Van Damage? :barf:

Someone come up with some better 80s/early 90s action vets. Kurt Russel, maybe? That China O'Brien chick? :p

Someone else was already thinking this one up it seems (http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/562301/10_possible_stars_for_the_expendables_2.html).

Michael Dudikoff, Christopher Lambert and Bosworth...hmmm...

Would Segal and Damme work togethor? I thought they had an argument at Stallone's house many years ago and Damme asked Segal to step outside, and Segal refused to...

Just as well, as I think Damme would have whooped his rear!

That's one of the stories I've heard.

I don't like either of the blowhards, to be honest. Two guys with over-inflated egos who are both accused of doing some pretty nasty shit in their day. Sounds like most over-indulged actors from the 80s, right? I don't know, just something about their pretentiousness hits a sour note with me, always has.

Turns out Stallone won't be returning (http://www.joblo.com/stallone-to-return-for-expendables-2-but-not-as-director)to the director's chair for Expendables 2. He will star in the film, but he's turning over his writing and directing duties to someone else.

I can't imagine why Stallone would turn down the chance to direct the sequel. He's been desperately stretching for films to direct, resulting in resurrecting his dead franchises, and now he's going to turn down the one original thing he has going? hrm...

Michael Ironside should be in this as the villain.

I say bring in Chuck Norris too. It's a damn shame Charles Bronson is dead.

Cüneyt Arkın has to appear!

Van Damme, Segal, & Norris are the 3 names I keep hearing thrown around. The other speculation if we'll see expanded roles for Schwarzenegger &/or Willis.

Heck, throw in Sho Kosugi as Jet Li's dad or something while we're at it. :D

Arnold's got to be in it a bit more now that he's acting again. And Willis just NEEDS to be in it. His career ahs been in a bit of a slump lately. I recently saw a trailer for some movie starring Willis and 50 Cent.:stunned:

Red was good fun. It wasn't great by any means, but it was solid fun.

The buddy cop flick you're on about is "Cop Out" ... which was disappointing. Although it still has some good qualities to it - and if you're a Kevin Smith fan, the Blu-Ray's "maximum comedy mode" is essential viewing.

Maybe it's just me, but the trailer for that looked about as funny as ass cancer. The way Tracy Morgan was carrying on was like somebody who just fell off the short bus. Seriously, I was 1/2 convinced the "buddy premise" of this one was: grizzled cop + special ed or head trauma cop = "wacky hijinks" :barf:

That's just Tracy Morgan. He's painfully unfunny. I can only handle him in small doses like SNL. He's actually the reason I can't continue to watch 30 Rock. He's just annoying...

How long does he expect the "It's funny because i'm loud" thing to work?

MinionZombie
01-Apr-2011, 06:54 PM
I can get by with Morgan, but too much can easily be annoying - and if 30 Rock didn't have Liz or Jack, I wouldn't watch it.

I found him alright in Cop Out. I must give that flick another watch on its own sometime.

Sounds interesting.

As for Van Damme, I've been watching that ITV series "JCVD: Behind Closed Doors" and the last episode was on this week and Expendables 2 was mentioned - however no decision was made as JCVD is training for a fight that will be happening this summer, so I guess it depends on that and on scheduling etc.

It's a strange show - they make such a drama out of the most mundane things/not-all-that-dramatic-things (well, the editors and voice over people do anyway) - but I have kind of enjoyed it too. I hardly watch any of this "reality TV" stuff, so it doesn't do my head in. If they do another series, let's hope its a bit more exciting ... I was expecting us to see his training for the fight, but being that the fight isn't until this summer, we won't see any of that until a next series ... it'd be cool if he did Expendables 2. With all these names in the first one, it was kind of odd not having him in there - but then again, you don't want to totally overload yourself - save some names for the sequel(s) you know?

Yeah, so the reality show is okay, and he seems like an honest dude - indeed he's very open about himself and his past. At times it's almost uncomfortable to watch, even. Yeah, I found the show oddly interesting.

I'd be up for that!

Although didn't he used to say he'd never play a bad guy? Then again, didn't Segal say he wouldn't die in a movie? Until he appeared in Machete ... where he finished himself off with a sword.

Anyway - it'd be a wise decision by JCVD to appear in the flick, and I would like to see him as a bad guy for a change - I'm definitely up for The Expendables 2. I've got the 3-disc blu-ray and it's a quality package (the making-of, exclusive to that steelbook edition, is excellent, as is the Picture-in-Picture mode).

I get what you're saying, but I honestly think they could--if they wanted to--give Chuck a character that was a small part that was a bit dark. Some quasi-washed up actors who have had solid dark, guest/ensemble style roles would be David Carradine in Kill Bill, Keith Carradine in Criminal Minds and Mickey Rourke in a lot of the stuff he's done since the Wrestler.

I mean, I'd rather Norris than JCVD or...god forbid...Steven Seagal. I know to some people it's the hammier the better, but JCVD and Seagal are both hammyness overload for me and a bit repellent in general

Disappointed Stallone won't be writing and directing this, that smacks to me of the studio wanting to rush out a sequel before it's ready to go, that or Stallone's just too damn old. Still I LOVED the first one and as long as Stallone and Statham are still upfront, the rest of the posers are just window dressing to be taken down.

I got the 3-disc Blu-Ray/DVD with the feature length making of on it - and that documentary is well worth watching. It's informative but also quite personal, and you actually feel somewhat a part of the production - unlike the usual cursory love-in EPK type stuff you so often get on discs.

Stuntman killed on the set - two others injured, one of them is critical. :(

http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/stuntman-killed-on-expendables-2-set.html

A stuntman has been killed in an explosion on the set of Sylvester Stallone’s new action movie ‘The Expendables 2’.

The accident happened at Lake Ognyanovo, a reservoir in Bulgaria, on Thursday as they filmed a scene on boat.

Two other stuntmen, reportedly Chinese, were also injured in the blast. One is apparently in a critical condition.

"It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident," production company Nu Image/Millennium Films said in a statement.

No more details have been given, but it is thought the film’s roster of action talent, including Bruce Willis, John Travolta and Arnold Schwarzenegger, were not present at the incident.

The Bulgarian police have launched an investigation.

The film is set for release August 2012.

In a recent interview for foreign markets, Chuck Norris drops a bit of a bombshell - Expendables 2 will be PG13.

This reads a bit funny because of the translation...

"In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn't be able to watch this. But i don't play in movies like this. Due to that i said i won't be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13."

I usually don't have a problem with films going with a lower rating so they can make money in theaters(Die Hard 4 was okay as PG13 and even better on the unrated DVD), but wasn't the original idea of The Expendables to create a HARD R-rated film that harkens back to the 80's action genre? It seems a bit strange to change that now. Especially for someone as silly and expendable(teehee) as Chuck Norris....

So now we are going to get an 80s style action film starring 60 year olds, with minimal bloodshed and no cursing? Do these oldies really think youngsters are anxious to see them on the big screen?
This is getting silly? Part of the succes of the first one was the nostalgia for the crowd old enough to actually remember this bunch of 'actors. Now they are going to get a watered down fun for all the family action fest with like really big explosions and stuff? Count me out. Still can't get over what the PG13 rating did to Die Hard.
I enjoyed the first one as a cheesy throwback. Laughed my way through it. Not excited for this one.

the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance... Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry...Sly

If anything it's more offensive - you're peddling brutal beatings and gunplay to an even younger audience - it kind of messed up. But considering that the first one made a shedload of money Rated R, then this just smacks the audience in the face.

What's more, for us UK viewers, it'll no doubt still be rated 15, but because it'll be from the US PG-13, it'll be soft-as-shite - meanwhile the Rated R original was also a 15 in the UK (one trim of 2 seconds meant it wasn't an 18 until the Blu-Ray) and that had loads of violence.

With all these movies getting released in 2D and 3D, they should release a proper grown up's version and then the stupid, creepy kidified version as well (Bruno was released in both 15 and 18 rated forms in the UK) so people can choose ... at the very least I really hope they shot the proper violence and lingo at the same time, and won't just shoe-horn it in (like they did with Die Hard 4 - it improves things, but it's also so obviously half-assed-in after-the-fact ), so we can at least get the proper film on home video.

I was really looking forward to this - but now it's going to be pussified (there's no other word for it, you're deliberately softening the movie for a lower rating) my interest has taken a real hit. The Americans really need to sort their rating system out and have something more akin to what we've got in the UK - U/PG/12/15/18 - there's been plenty of 15 rated movies that have lots of balls to them ... just thinking about it, it seems kind of strange to me that Shaun of the Dead (a 15 in the UK) then became an R (17+) in the USA ... it's just daft.

I would bloody well hope so! Rating it PG-13 was the dumbest idea I've heard since rating Die Hard 4 PG-13.

I dearly hope Ex2 will indeed be an R-Rated flick now. Perhaps Stallone & Co changed their tune when they saw the fan outrage ... or maybe they're preparing two versions? I just want hardcore Ex2, R-Rated all-the-way!

A few comments - http://latino-review.com/2012/04/25/cinemacon-2012-the-expendables-2-trailer-brief-description-only/

The trailer started off with team in the jungle surrounded by ruthless soldiers, and Barny Ross (played by Sylvester Stallone) kills the soldiers using his finger as a pistol. Actually, the new recruit The Kid (played by Liam Hemsworth) was the sniper that killed the soldiers.

It gave the audience a good glimpse of the old team of Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture with the new team members of Hemsworth and Nan Yu. But, it also focused on Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in action for the sequel.

Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme were seen in the movie.

The most noticeable things in the trailer were with Schwarzenegger and Willis driving in a tiny European smart car and a fist/kung fu fight between Stallone and Van Damme.

Arnie and Willis in a Smart Car? hahaha! :p

Totally up for this flick again after hearing it will be R-Rated (the prospect of a PG-13 sequel was just ... ugh...)

If it's like the first, but a bit better, I'll be uber happy!

yep. i'm not much of an action film fan but the first one was such an amazingly over the top piece of entertaining ridiculousness, that i'm all up for this one.

I'll pay just to see Van Damme back on the big screen!

I do hope the script is good!

Saw the trailer before Cabin in the Woods. I gave it a new title as the trailer was playing.

Me: (in a movie trailer voice) "From the makers of Geriatric Action Movie, when these guys get into it, aluminum walkers and wheelchairs will be flying. See this summer's only blockbuster worth seeing, Geriatric Action Movie II: Get the Oxygen Stat!"

Wife: almost spits out her drink into the popcorn

Been hearing lots of positive stuff about the flick - can't wait to see it.

You know who they should include in it if they do a third movie? Michael Biehn - the bloke's kick arse in his roles. I've been watching some clips of "The Victim" (which he stars in, as well as writing & directing it) on YouTube, and I'm looking forward to seeing that flick. Indeed, as we've been discussing The Divide elsewhere, Biehn was the best part of that flick. I think he'd fit in really well to a third Expendables line-up.

Saw it yesterday afternoon and had an absolute blast with it - my full thoughts are all laid out here:

Chime in folks, anyone else had a chance to see it yet? :)

Seeing this tonight. I was teetering between this and Lawless, but I'm feeling this'll do me up right.
My two cents worth coming after...

- - - Updated - - -

I liked it. It didn't have the pairing off of the good guys to bad guys like the first one did at the end, but still. The awesome power of all that were involved was...
Awfully powerful?
My kid came in thoroughly hating on this, yet was won over. I myself was skeptical. Van Damme? The Muthaluvin' Lone Wolf?!?
You can't help but love the shit out of this one. I saw it in the discount theater and you wanna know what?
Everybody was cheering like it was the first run. Every time Chuck or Arnie came out again it was mayhem.
The only bad thing I'll say is that Jean Claude went down like a bitch. That, and WTF happened to Jet Li?
Other than that I called it like I'd wrote it. I had a good time, I guess I can chalk it up to audience participation...
A- for effort and gumption. It falls short of perfection due to occasional silliness.
If you like to sweat, and you like anything you kill to be extra crispy, then this is for you. I don't understand the whole PG13 pre showing B.S., but in the end...
It delivers.
