Not top ten, not "well its hard to say" but the one you love the most.

Me and some mates were talking about this earlier and one gal said "just think, what one film do you think of first? the one you will watch when asked to whenever, the one you will see in passing or channel skipping and always watch it. Something you have probably watched twice in a day or more.

After a bit of a think i can say pretty confidently that my favorite movie is The Big Lebowski, by the coen brothers.
If you havent seen it, and i am sorry for you who haven't, it stars jeff bridges in the mid 80's or 90's ,cant remember which, as a layabout stoner who calls himself 'the dude' who gets pulled into a world of kidnapped trophy wives, bowling child molesters, nihilist techno bands, stolen cars, a crazy family and a rug that really tied a room together.

Its a flick where a lot happens but in the end nothing has really happened at all and it stars a stellar cast with the likes of john goodman, jeff bridges and jon turturro doing the most memorable performances of there careers. I could probably watch it every few days and never grow tired of it. its my absolute favorite movie.

but whats yours?

I immediately thought of Addams Family Values:

Gomez (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000471/): He has my father's eyes.
Morticia (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001378/): Gomez, take those out of his mouth.

I may have to watch those this season.

Destroying America. That counts as a movie, right?

This should come as no surprise to those of you that know me, but....Ghostbusters. Never gets old, the laughs never fail, and it always holds my attention. Greatest comedy/sci fi ever made. Saw it a week ago in a packed theater and played beautifully. Still holds up great by today's standards.

The Green Mile, which edges Forrest Gump out by a slight margin.

Ghaaa!!! You would have to limit it to JUST ONE?!?! I don't know that I can do it.

When I was younger I would've said Star Wars w/out hesitation. I saw that move well over a hundred times when I was a lad.

Later I would've said NOTLD.

Right now my heart is saying Carpenter's "The Thing". That movie just hits all the right buttons for me. "Excalibur" is another.

"Open Range" might be a close second. Don't know why, there are other more "classic" westerns out there that are favorites from Clint & The Duke, but Open Range is such the quintessential western. I love everything about that movie.

See, told you I couldn't name just one.

Used to be a tossup over The Princess Bride and Aliens. . I've seen those two movies more than any other I fear. Then for a while it was Braveheart. I think the one movie that I can't pass by nowadays without watching at least a little of is The Clockwork Orange. . .I've always loved that movie.

The movies that come to mind first are The Princess Bride and What About Bob?

Everyone keeps saying that it's hard to choose just one, but it's actually the opposite for me. My number one has always and will always be Ghostbusters, but choosing a movie for the #2 slot is extremely hard. Maybe Fight Club? To Kill a Mockingbird? Day or Dawn? I can watch all of those movies everyday for the rest of my life and never get tired of them. Just too many choices...

Danny, you say The Big Lebowski is your favorite movie but you don't know when it was made? Jeez, man. It was the late 90's.

Many of you already know that my favorite movie of all-time is Dawn Of The Dead. BTTF II comes in a very close second.

*gasp*

You may be the only other person i've heard say they prefer part 2. I love the original, all three of them actually, but part 2 has always been my favorite...

I dunno...Shawshank Redemption? It's a Wonderful Life? Platoon? Fight Club? Wall Street? Ewoks: The Home Invasion?

Who can decide.

When it was set dude, not made. Didn't you catch all the stuff about bush senior and vietnam only being a decade ago and the stuff about saddam? its not set in the time it came out but a while earlier in the past.

I believe it's meant to be 1991, if I remember correctly.

Speaking of....you hear that the Coens and Bridges were supposedly discussing a Lebowski sequel on the set of True Grit? Could just be talk, but interesting to think about..

I know a few people that are on the wagon for part 2 being the best. Glad you're with us! The whole futuristic thing is what really appeals to me; I love the hover boards, over-the-top fashion, flying cars, and especially Cafe 80's.

"I'm a crack shot at this..."

without any intention to be funny, or ironic in any way back to the future part 3 is my favorite, let that blow your mind.

Here, here! While it may not be my favorite of the three, I've always loved Part III and never understood the hate it gets. I guess some people didn't like the western storyline or Doc having a love interest, but I love the film and think it's a great way to end the trilogy. The series wouldn't be the same without it.

That is pretty odd. I used to loathe part 3 when I was younger. As I got older I realized westerns are actually sweet and not boring, so the movie really grew on me.

However, I feel it lacks a lot of what the first two had; I loved how they jumped back and forth between time periods. The third one took place solely in 1885. It would be leaps and bounds better for me if Marty traveled to 1885 to bring back the Doc, realized he couldn't talk him out of it, then had to go back to 1985 to stop him from even going to the old west in the first place.

Nerd talk coming in.....he was accidentally thrown back to 1885 by a lightening bolt in 1955. Marty couldn't have gone back to prevent that, because he would have run into himself and the other Doc, causing a paradox. I think. Maybe he could've written another note or something, though...

Crap, I don't know how I forgot that's how it happened. And it wasn't just A lightning bolt... it was THE lightning bolt!

THE lightning bolt? What do you mean? Like the clock tower lightning bolt? They were nowhere near the tower when he gets accidentally shot to 1885. It was the same storm, of course. As Marty and Doc of BTTF2 are about to go back to 1985(after marty burns the almanac), the entire ending scene to BTTF1 is playing out at the same time in the town square. Two different lightening bolts, but same storm. This is why marty comes running around the corner after Doc sends Marty of BTTF1 back to 1985. "I know doc, but I'm back...back FROM the future"

Time travel stories can be so confusing sometimes.

I should have thought that out better. What I meant was THE lightning bolt that made the doc "explode".

Screw this, I'm goin down to Tannen's Casino to blow off some steam.

I can't do it. I can pick my most favorite film from each genre, but I can't pick just one favorite film. I don't have just one most favorite film.

Horror:

"Day of the Dead" (obviously), but outside of it...
John Carpenter's "Christine". Greatest love story ever told in the history of film. :) I get goose-bumps every time Arnie looks at the car after being destroyed and says: "Okay, show me." and the headlights come on with the blare of Carpenter's soundtrack.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy:

Kevin Costner's "The Postman". I'm serious. Stop laughing at me. I don't know why but this film has always gotten to me and I just freaking love it. Will Patton is an incredible actor and I would love to see him in more projects. This flick is actually a guilty pleasure of mine -- but I never grow tired of seeing it (even for all its over the top glory). The scene where one of the towns people is about to be killed and he yells out as loud as he can: "Ride Postman! You hear me! Ride!" actually brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. And Kevin Costner is well... Kevin Costner. Another guilty pleasure. I greatly dig his films (especially the ones he directs -- "Waterworld", "Open Range", etc.)

Thrillers

Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo". Jimmy Stewart and Hitch both at their best. Enough said.

Comedy

Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous" (the director's cut). I freaking love this movie. I never grow tired of watching it and I find new things every time I see it. Just an overall incredible journey and film.

Drama

"Lilies of the Field" with Sidney Poitier. This film just really touches me every time I see it. A very American film with a profound message and just an all around great experience every time I see this. ("Tuesdays with Morrie" would be a close second -- I weep like a little girl every time I see this film and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It's an extremely touching film. Jack Lemmon's greatest performance in a film too).

Anyway, just my thoughts...

j.p.
