Maniac is playing in theaters around the country. I'll see it when it comes to Boston. Woo-hoo! :elol:

Wow, I haven't seen this movie in ages. I do remember it being pretty damn twisted though..

Whenever I think of this movie, all I can think about is the dude jumping on the car hood with the shotgun and... well.. lets just say it doesn't end well for the driver (Savini) of the vehicle. :D

Yes! THAT scene! I always loved that, and it's stuck with me since the first time I saw it many, many years ago. :D

i recall someone else posting that scene one these boards once. you can tell savini saw some shit in 'nam, that shattered skull is pretty true to life, i've seen a few and that right there is about as close to the real deal as i've seen on film.

never saw this movie, but i downloaded it last night and plan to watch it over the holidays...seems like it will go well with some hot cocoa and a snowy evening by the fire.

I dig "Maniac", it's a good slasher and grindhouse flick ... although my version is cut on DVD (a scene of 'sexualised strangling' or somethingeruther) ... it was a DVD release from around 2002, so the BBFC had only been chilled out for 3 years at that stage, so I don't know if it'd get uncut these days.

Anyway, it's a good flick - and that headshot is feckin' immense.

Never seen it, but damn that headshot was gruesome! I assume Savini also did the effects?

Is the plot actually good, or just a bunch of special effect gore shots? I'll keep an eye out for this one on dvd...

There is a "plot" - but believe me, it's more to advance the scenes to get to more gore than anything. It is worth a watch, but not sure how much 'rewatchability' the flick actually has.

Put it this way - I originally saw it 15+ years ago, and haven't seen it since, so that should tell you something. ;) Keep in mind, I liked the flick when I saw it (well, I like it and was grossed out by it all in one shot), so it's not like it's a shitty movie. I saw WAY worse back then... Drive-In Massacre or Basket Case anyone?

Saw it last night in Boston, and Bill Lustig was there signing posters and chatting with us in the lobby before the movie. He held a Q&A session afterwards, too. It was awesome to see the shotgun scene on a big screen. Bless your hearts, Grindhouse.
