The Walking Dead: Favourite moments from season 1

Well now series 1 is over and done with, i got to thinking what are your favourite scenes from the first series? Id have to say, personally.. most of episode 1 which was beautifully done, especially morgan and his son which i would argue where portrayed better in the TV series than they were in the comic.

My other favourite moment would be amy's death and resurrection. very moving.

Woa! Favorite moments huh? Here goes:
-I loved the opening gas station sequence (but would have preferred it in its cronological place)
-Rick's entire debut performance but particularly...
-Ricks breakdown and subsequent questioning off reality once reaching his home.
-Extended Morgan and Duane.
-Mass encouter in the city and take-down of the horse.
-The "guts" walk.
-Rick's family reunion.
-Merle's breakdown on the roof.
-Daryl shooting the vato in the arse.
-Daryl whipping out his brothers hand to scare the young vato.
-Glenn going for the guns and being obducted.
-Ed's beatdown/Shane's first breakdown.
-The fishing scene with Andrea and Amy.
-The camp attack.
-Shane "sighting down" Rick and Dale witnessing.
-The caravan departure from the camp.
-Shane at the hospitol deciding Ricks fate.
-Jenner splain'n the effects of the virus on the brain and subsequent description of the iradication of "everything that you were, are or ever will be."
-Lori/Shane confrontation.
-Jacqui deciding to end her struggle for survival with Jenner.
-Dale's confession to Andrea.
-Jenner's cryptic whisper to Rick.
-The return of the hand grenade.
-The use of a thermobaric weapon (fuel-air bomb).

Ghoulman pretty much covered it but I really like they way they've done the Shane & Rick friendship. You can see how well they work well together mainly having to deal with Darryl. I'm very sympathetic towards Shane now we know his full story. Also loved the reunion of Rick and his family. Andy Lincoln was superb when he first saw Lori and Carl. Nice detail when he touches his heart just before grabbing Carl. There are many many subtle parts and details in this show. I really like the way they portrayed Morgan and especially the way he said he wasn't ready to leave and wanted to stay behind to teach Duane how to shoot when it was really about him trying to put his wife down.

Pretty much all of the first episode. Best zombie "movie" since Day.

Other than that....Amy's death and reanimation, the "roadtrip" sequence, and Dale's decision to stick with Andrea.

I Have to agree, shane has been a real grower on me, i hated him in the comic and i started watching this with a real prejudice against him but as the series has gone on, ive really started to sympathise with shane, the last episode especially when its revealed the guy really did try to save rick and actually did care for him, i find it alot easier to beleive that he took lori and carl and protected them to honour rick, who he actually thought was dead and the whole affair thing came later.

Alot of this is left ambiguous in the comic and i think its a shame becuase it does make shane a more likeable character.

All of the above pretty much. Two that I'd like to add is Rick's putting Bicycle Girl down & the moment he takes to honor the dead man by reading his drivers licence beforre they chop him up.

That sort of scene sealed the deal for me...this wasn't "Cool McCooldood" noncholantly head-shotting stenches, this was a human being moved by the plight of another fallen human being (intercut with Morgan trying to do the same for his wife)...it was a really effective scene IMO. It is also the sort of content that will win over folks who aren't really into the zombie genere, this was real human drama (as was the dismembering of the dead guy in "Guts").

The above sort of story telling will give viewers who see themselves as "decent human beings" a reason to connect and sympathise with the characters (which is important, if people don't care about the characters they are watching, they'll switch off).

Let's see what springs to mind immediately:

Episode One:
1) Seeing the devastation at the hospital, particularly the exterior shot showing all the bodies laid out in the rear parking lot.
2) The intercut sequence between Rick and Morgan dealing with the bicycle zombie and wife zombie respectively. That moment cemented what this show was going to be all about.
3) Getting stranded in Atlanta, and getting into the tank - tense stuff - and Rick's stunned shock to being side-by-side with that military zombie.

Episode Two:
1) Escaping the tank.
2) Meeting Glenn.
3) The "guts scene".
4) Glenn in the muscle car.

Episode Three:
1) Finally getting into the meat & potatoes of the characters in the camp.
2) Dealing with the zombie that stumbled into camp (go Dale! :cool:).
3) Discovery of Merle's severed hand - Dun. Dun. DUUUUUUUUUUN indeed. :D

Episode Four:
1) The attack on the camp site - the entire sequence was awesome.
2) The stuff with Jim going a bit loco.
3) Daryl transcending 'basic redneck' territory to become a useful member of the group, excellent with a crossbow, but also have that tense unpredictability.
4) Andrea's reaction to the death of Amy - intense, powerful, realistic, entirely unlike the usual 'movie grief' we're so used to. Holden knocked that scene out of the park.

Episode Five:
1) Andrea's grief - again, Holden was awesome in this scene, which was additionally great because of the tension of knowing Amy will resurrect, but not knowing when.
2) Dale's scene with Andrea - perhaps the two best actors on the show nailing it - further illustrating exactly what this show is about ... it's about the people in this fucked up situation, not a fucked up situation that just so happens to involve people. Survivalist porn and mindless, constant zombie action sequences this is not. DEAL. :thumbsup:
3) Heading out - the family heading their own way, the music from the soundtrack to Sunshine, ooh it gave me chills.
4) Leaving Jim, just like in the comic.
5) The CDC stuff - all new, all interesting, and pretty darn creepy.
6) Arriving at the CDC - Rick's utter desperation was spot-the-fuck-on. Lincoln did such a great job with that scene.

Episode Six:
1) The Dawn of the Dead vibe - the false sense of security.
2) The Day of the Dead vibe - when you realise shit's not going to work out.
3) Jenner trapping everyone, with his firm belief that they'd all be better off being incinerated.
4) The gang escaping the complex - from Jenner remaining and whispering a secret to Rick (although I'm 99% sure what it is, having read the comic), to Jacqui sticking behind, to the gang's panicked escape through the re-inforced glass, to Andrea not wanting to go and Dale staying with her (DeMunn's line of 'you can just come into a man's life, make him care, and then just check out!' was just fantastic - great performance, great dialogue, just ruddy well great), to their last minute escape, and to Jenner and Jacqui - in those last 22 seconds - looking each other right in the eye, gripping their hands together, and without dialogue knowing that this moment is their last ... awesome. Even viewed on it's own, that whole sequence is tense, chilling, and edge-of-your-seat stuff. Just writing about it gives me chills. :)

1- All of the first episode. Especially the first time he goes near the dead doors, and Morgans bit with his wife.
2- The siege feeling in the store.
3-Merle's rooftop plight. A thin door and chain protecting him from ravenous hordes. His mental break down and then return to form. The whole scene was brilliant. I did find the make up was a bit over the top and heavy handed for my liking on the zeds in that scene but whatever.
4- The camp attack, other than not explaining how none of the trip wire alert systems were triggered this was a well done zombie sequence with only minor issues.
5- The reanimation sequence with Amy following the camp attack.
6- The scene in the woods where Shane almost takes out Rick, but is stumbled upon by Dale.
7- The scenes leading up to and including Jim's being left at the shade tree. I was not fond of the "premonition" bit but other than that well acted, and well done all around.
7- Dale and Andrea's scene at the CDC.

- The department store windows with zombies crammed against them.
- Glenn in the Department Store stating that he knew how to survive and that they'd do things his way.
- Shane beating the tar out of the dude in the camp.
- Dale forcing Andrea to leave the CDC.
- The hospital flashback.

and my favorite...

- When Rick finds gas for the police cruiser in the pickup truck, scoffs at taking the horse, easily evades the zombie army in Atlanta, contacts Morgan on the cruiser's radio and warns him off of Atlanta, is overhead by Shane, and is guided into the quarry area unharmed and weapon-rich with a fully gassed up police cruiser. :D
