Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet but tell me this doesn't sound like the beginning of an apocalyptic scenario?

Because it happened New Year's Eve, some officials suggest that revelers shooting fireworks may have spooked the birds, to the point that they died en masse from stress-induced cardiac arrest.
I've never really given that any thought. For birds, fireworks must seem like armageddon...

i read in another article that lightning is also being looked at as a possible culprit.

I don't buy this or the lightning theory AT ALL. Why? Well, first off, why are there people roaming around the town, cleaning up the birds and wearing HAZMAT suits? If they died from lightning or a fireworks-stress-induced death, I would think there'd be no need for a hazmat suit, right? Also, if this was the case, every 4th of July we'd hear stories about this same event happening in other places. I just don't buy it.
Now, that being said, my "chemtrails" comment was a joke, but somethig fishy is indeed going on here, and it's not lightning nor fireworks. :shifty:

about 5,000 blackbirds died. that leaves about 200 MILLION of them...

They've found some more in neighboring Louisiana (http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/04/500-more-redwing-blackbirds-found-dead-in-louisiana/?icid=main%7Cnetscape%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk2%7C193459).

Now they're finding a bunch of dead birds in Kentucky (http://www.wpsdlocal6.com/news/local/Woman-reports-dozens-of-dead-birds-in-her-yard-112830524.html) - but I'm sure that's due to the same lightning and/or fireworks, eh?
Even in my home state now, there are thousands of fish washing up on the shores, and it's being claimed that it's due to "cold stress." Again, I call bullshit. This state has been colder in past years and not only that, but colder earlier in the year - but now fish are dying to "cold stress?" HAH! WHATEVER!

I'm not one to get into the whole conspiracy/government/viral kind of talk.....but have they said why it's been only this kind of bird? Seems to me that there would be different types of birds if it were this lightning/firework theory. So far i've only heard of this red tipped blackbird...

Bingo. That's what makes me raise an eyebrow, too. It would've been different types of birds had that (fireworks/lightning) been the case, especially with how many there were. It's too coincidental. :shifty:

Now this is some crazy shit. At first I thought the fireworks were a good speculation, until I read the update that all the birds in the first state had died of blunt-force trauma. Then saw there was a second state... then a THIRD state... then two states with dead fish.
WTF is going on??? I don't buy this cold weather excuse, either.

Maybe this whole thing has to do with Climate Change, somehow... I mean, it does seem a bit warmer than usual here for this time of year.... I dunno, it's a mystery...

Hm okay, not so panicked anymore considering there were 90 incidents of this happening between June and November, and it's not really that rare of an occurrance (according to the article).

Anyone else notice that they're shipping the birds to Atlanta for the CDC to check out? The CDC for fireworks or lightening bolts?
I'm scared.

I was reading about such incidents in an old issue of Fortean Times - a magazine of bizarre and weird news that is usually quite open minded about such things, without being too irrational - and the explanation given by one scientist for these mass die-offs was actually quite a good one. Every seen birds fly in a huge flock like this?:
IHXVf_aQnVI
Each bird follows its neighbour and they become like one massive organism. See how they swoop back and forth together at 40 mph? All it would take would be for one or two birds near the lead of the flock to fly into the ground in confusion or panic, and you'd have a mass kamikaze dive going on.
It's also worth noting that the dead birds in the Arkansas case were all covered in wounds. They didn't just drop dead. They crashed into the ground, or each other, in panic.

That's just what THEY want you to believe, man! Get your tinfoil hat now and do not take it off under any circumstances! You can thank me later!
In all seriousness, that's the birds in AK. How about the others? and what about all these damn fish now washing up dead on the shores by the tens of thousands?
Something wicked this way comes.
...and I'm going to get way the hell out of it's way when it does!

This stuff happens all the time. Both the bird deaths and the mass fish deaths are pretty common. The only odd thing is how soon together the events occurred, which is a kind of a coincidence, but coincidences do happen a lot more that people think. I won't be breaking out one of these (http://www.stopabductions.com/) JUST yet. :D

Not just how close together it happened, but the fact that it happened across the planet - right around the same time. That's just weird. Perhaps coincidental, but I dunno man, I think I'm going to keep my tinfoil hat on for a few more days. Just in case.
Here, lets add some fuel to the conspiracy theory fire:
